When making edits, please make sure that the spellings you use conform to the English usage appropriate to the historical context of the article. While it may be appropriate to refer to the capital of modern Ukraine as "Kyiv" when dealing with the events that occurred in and after the 1990s, using it in a historical context is a no-go. If you have questions, please get acquainted with the WP:UE guideline and peruse extensive talk archives at Talk:Kiev. I assume you mean transliteration, not transcription? Anyway, the "Kiev" spelling is neither. It is a commonly accepted English name of the city which serves as the capital of Ukraine. The origins of the word are pretty much irrelevant; the important thing is that's what's predominantly used in English texts.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 14:40, August 31, 2009 (UTC)
