Please ensure to abide by Notability (video games)

Hello, I see that you've created close to about 5 articles relating video games. Was hoping to bring the following to your attention -

  1. Although I see that they have been created by notable developers, the games by themselves do not much justify notability - do please refer to the link provided in the title once so as to ensure they do.
  2. A common edit that I've done is - added Videogame-stub, DEFAULTSORT and changed reflist to references -- please ensure to follow through the same as these are the standards.

Feel free to reach out in case there is anything we could assist with in your contributions & keep up the good work!
TopCipher (talk) 06:38, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Also, please try and add edit summaries as far as possible. Thanks.

The article Jetboat Superchamps has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable game

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Gbawden (talk) 13:42, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

I agree, while "Real Networks. Inc" is a notable company, the game they published is not mentioned on their website nor has it garnered any attention or awards or even controversy for that matter. If gamers want to discover that game, they should stick to reading it on MobyGames. I will delete the article right away. Videogameplayer99 (talk) 23:20, 15 July 2017 (UTC) Videogameplayer99

Speedy deletion nomination of Excessive Speed

Hello Videogameplayer99,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Excessive Speed for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

A good start. It could use additional references though, as both the current ones are from the same source.

A page you started (Motocross Mania) has been reviewed!

Thanks for creating Motocross Mania, Videogameplayer99!

Wikipedia editor Insertcleverphrasehere just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Again, both sources are from IGN, and really only amount to one source. Please add more reliable sources to new articles to make sure they don't get challenged for deletion

Mobygames and your articles

Stop using mobygames as a source in articles. It is clearly listed as an unreliable source here: WP:VG/RS. It should not be used to cite information. Wikipedia's verifiability policy (WP:V) says that we should use reliable sources (WP:RS). I would have thought you'd pick up on that already when I removed it from many of your articles, but you continue to use it as the main source for all the articles you are creating. You are also creating many articles on topics that aren't notable, with inadequate sourcing, and with very poorly written prose. If I can't establish notability on them, then I will end up nominating them for deletion. Please create articles in the draft namespace first (WP:DRAFT) and submit them for review before publishing in mainspace. --The1337gamer (talk) 08:39, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

IGN over page as source for dates

Hey there, I noticed that, despite my comment at Lego Island, you continued adding user-contributed IGN overview pages (domain base ign.com/games/*), which are just as unnotable as GameFAQs or MobyGames. Reliable from IGN are only the articles (located at domain base ign.com/articles/*); also, the overview pages can contain placeholder dates (e.g. Jan 1, Jun 1, Dec 1, ...) when the entry is older and does not have a day or even month input for it. I only checked your recent edit at Grand Prix World so far, but I hope you can undo or part-edit the contributions you made involving such pages, so to keep Wikipedia clean from possibly false dates. Cheers! Lordtobi () 17:23, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Dirt Track Racing 2 . Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continual disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. You were already informed that mobygames.com is not a reliable source. Why are you adding it as an external link to multiple articles? See WP:ELNO Meters (talk 02:16, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

And please read WP:MINOR. Those are not minor edits. Meters (talk) 02:34, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Empty "external links" sections

Hello, I appreciated your cleaning-up of MobyGames links from external links sections, but please remember to remove the section header if the section tours out empty (excluding navboxes, categories, stub tags). Cheers! Lordtobi () 20:07, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

On the subject of mass-deleting MobyGames external links, bear in mind that while it's not considered a valid source (see WP:VG/RS), it can be considered a valid external link on a case by case basis (see WP:VG/EL):

If the page contains substantial information that is relevant but not necessarily encyclopedic in nature, a video game's page at MobyGames, Internet Movie Database, or a dedicated wiki may be added on a case by case basis. Per WP:ELYES #3, WP:ELMAYBE #4. See also WP:ELNO #12 regarding wikis.

So use your best judgment before deleting it from each page. --Vossanova o< 20:57, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

I gave Videogameplayer99 the impression that MobyGames was not an acceptable external link by removing such links that Videogameplayer99 had added. I did not look at every link, but the ones I did check did not meet WP:ELYES #3 since they did not contain material that could not be integrated into the Wikipedia article. In fact, most if not all of the material was already in the articles so the external links contributed virtually nothing to the articles. Using a user-generated non-reliable source as an external link when it contributes nothing substantial to the article makes no sense and is not acceptable under WP:VG/EL. My apologies if I mistakenly removed some MobyGames links that did meet WP:ELYES #3.
The consensus reached in various discussions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games is what should guide you, Videogameplayer99. I'll check the rest of the links you added that I removed, but even if all of them remain deleted you should not take this as an indication that all of the Mobygames external links in other articles should be removed (as Vossanova pointed out). Meters (talk) 21:43, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
I looked at another batch and they were all the same. A brief description of the game and a list of game credits that, in my opinion, is not useful since we don't know who contributed the information or if it is valid. As WP:VGRS says, Mobygames' "info has been shown to be often erroneous and the sources provided by contributors are not publicly displayed." What substantial, relevant but non-encyclopedic information so you think each Mobygames link contributes ? Meters (talk) 22:03, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

I'm much too new at Wikipedia to sufficiently answer your question with the same level of expertise you display, Meters, but the least I can say is that I will heed Vossanova's suggestion for the future if I ever want to add an external link to a video game article. Videogameplayer99 (talk) 22:47, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

You should not be removing Mobygames as an external link. Just do not use them as a source. While Mobygames is not a reliable source, the information it covers is not controversial and beyond the scope of Wikipedia. Consider it like imdb, which we do not use as a source, but can be found in the external links. - hahnchen 09:57, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

Articles for deletion

You should refrain from starting articles for deletion discussions given your apparent lack of understanding either of WP:N or of WP:BEFORE, which is causing you to nominate articles and subsequently !vote to keep them. Please stop, and move on to more useful endeavors. --Izno (talk) 01:42, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Since you seem to have changed your mind about Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/IndyCar Series (video game) the best thing for you to do is just withdraw your nomination. Meters (talk) 03:29, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Yes, I'd like to second what Izno has to say. To give a more detailed version - I appreciate your interest in helping at AFD, and I realize you're newer and it takes time to learn how Wikipedia works. But it's important to know - when we determine whether or not an article should be deleted, its supposed to be based on the sourcing that exists out there, not necessarily what is currently at the article. We sometimes decide to WP:REDIRECT or WP:MERGE articles temporarily based on their awful current state, until/unless someone improves their content and sourcing. But when we talk about straight up deletion, its important to follow WP:BEFORE - doing a good search on the internet and seeing if there's any sources out there. If you find a bunch of sources out there, then rather than nominating for deletion, you'd want to either 1) clean up the article 2) leaves sources/comments on the talk page for others to clean it up. (Alternatively, there are a number of "notifications" you can put on the top of articles too. (For example, if you put {{refimprove}} on the top of a page, it'll leave a note at the top of the page for people to add better references. There's a bunch like this.)

Don't be discouraged...but do try to take this to heart, or you'll likely find more complaints coming your way. If you have questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 14:22, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
