Thanks and Invitation to Edit Banamex

[edit]

Thanks for your very helpful and good edits to Desafuero and Carlos Salinas.

Could you give me a hand with Banamex?

I've made some changes recently. I would like the article to reflect the whole nationalization, reprivatization, government-led rescue and sale to Citibank saga. I am trying to come up with the amounts invested by the Mexican shareholders throughout their tenure and their IRR after the sale to Citibank. I remember reading a baseless assertion by Sergio Sarmiento in his Reforma column that basically said that the poor shareholders had lost money, which I believe is completely wrong, as I already did the back of the envelope calculation once and I think they had a return in the single digits in dollars, which is not bad if you consider that the rest of the Mexicans got stuck with the bill AND they didn't pay any income taxes on the sale.

I work for an investment bank in New York and I remember discussing this with equity analysts covering Latin American banks and we were all incensed about it. We all thought this was the crime of the century. Obviously, I have a strong POV about this, and I want to make sure I stay objective. You are great at this and you are also pretty good with research, so your help would be appreciated. Thanks, --Gustavo 05:27, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism to Mexico

[edit]

I noticed you scolded 69.244.5.26. Would you mind reverting his or her edit to Mexico? He or she put that toilet stuff back in there. I'd do it but I don't want to get into any revert wars with anyone. Gracias--Rockero420 02:49, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to Edit diverse pages

[edit]

I've noticed you're really active in Wikipedia and I'm new here. I've contributed to some articles and would really appreciate your input on any of the subjects that might interest you:

  • 1. Desafuero. I put some comments on the discussion page.
  • 2. Carlos Salinas. Made some heavy edits: contributed to the discussion on the December Mistakes, added references to other Salinas controversies, etc.
  • 3. TV Azteca. Added a section on the Privatization and related scandal.
  • 4. Cantinflas. Minor miscellaneous changes.
  • 5. Cronopio. Created stub article for these fictional creatures in Julio Cortazar's work.
  • 6. Placebo. Changed structure of the entry, added sections, etc. (unsigned by Lievano, 3 December 2005 (UTC)]]

Flag of Mexico

[edit]

Hello. I don't know if you have edit privileges. I'm having a problem with 2 users that are reverting files of the Mexican Flag to wrong ones. I don't know why they are doing this 'cause the files I uploaded are official versions of the flag. I think they just want their files to be displayed no matter what, even if they're wrong. I hope you can help me or at least tell me who to go with. Thanks a lot!

Hello Vizcarra. The file I uploaded (and that these guys keep changing) is exactly the same file shown in the topic "Bandera de Mexico" in Wikipedia in spanish. In fact I uploaded that one to Wikipedia Commons and they placed it in that topic. I think the problem is that this guy changed the file again and you saw his version, not mine, which is accurate. I hope you still can help me.

AlexCovarrubias 20:21, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Deat Vizcarra. The problem continue. This user User:Sagitario is still uploading his unaccurate version of the Mexican flag. Could you do something please? Check the history of the image. Mexico_flag_300.png

AlexCovarrubias 08:52, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Vizcarra. User User:Sagitario did it again. He replaced the accurate file with another wrong one. This time he modified the flag in order to appear more "official" but the coat of arms is still very bad drawn. What else do you think we can do?

Lagoons category

[edit]

May I ask why you removed the Lagoons category from Laguna de Términos? Lagoons is not the parent category to Lakes of Mexico. Lagoon is not the same as Lake, although some lagoons are called lakes. -- Dalbury(Talk) 22:41, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

To fill up this category I was wondering what other streets we could write about. Off the top of my head I can think of Eje Central, Periférico, Río Churubusco, Tlalpan, Viaducto and the Ejes viales (although just one article about all of them). Am I missing any? -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ | Esperanza 03:20, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Hurricanes in Mexico

[edit]

Is there a reason it's Hurricanes in Mexico and not Mexico hurricanes? Should similar categories follow this same convention? Or does it matter? I notice there's often disparity; for instance it's Category:History of Mexico versus Category:North Carolina history. Jdorje 22:55, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mother/daughter categories

[edit]

You'd applied some redundant categories to Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which I removed. For example, category:1848 in Mexico is in category:1848 and category:Mexican-American War is in Category:Military history of Mexico and Category:Mexico and the United States. See Wikipedia:categorization for the guideline. Cheers, -Willmcw 02:53, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of creating categories of the city where the bands are from, why don't you create categories by genre. example: Category:Mexican heavy metal musical groups >>> Sagitario 03:29, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rockero

[edit]

I read your answer at talk:Alejandra Guzmán about not being CV of rockero because they are an undocumented mirror. They've got a copyright notice on their website and I don't see any acknowledgment of wikipedia which the GFDL licensing requires. Somewhere there is a page for reporting thigns like that (I can't remember where right of hand). Do you know if they've been reported?

How do we determine who is copying whom? I listed another page at WP:CP last night for the same site (oops! and left a note on a new user's talk page asking not to copy copyrighted material. RJFJR 16:17, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mario Cimarro

[edit]

hi there. I realize that Cimarro now lives in Mexico but Mexican actor implies that he is either born in Mexico or of Mexican parents. This information is wrong. The intro of famous people states where they were born, or their ancestry. Who they are has nothing to do with where they live unless they were born there or their ancestors where from there. It would be like saying "Eduardo Verastegui is an American actor" if he decides to relocate to the US. Regardless of where he lives he would still be mexican. In the body of the bio it states that he now lives in Mexico so that point is clarified there. thanks! Mailyn 21:06, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bios, as far as I've seen here in Wiki state where the person is from. Salma Hayek is still a Mexican actress. I have not seen any bios where the current nationality is used instead of where the person was born. If he moved to the US then would he be an american actor? Bios cannot change whenever the person relocates. It makes no sense. A person is who they are because of where they are from or where their ancestors are from.

trade unions

[edit]

Hello Vizcarra!

You recently removed Category:Mexican trade unions from Category:Mexican society.

FYI... Category:German trade unions is categorized as German organisations and as German society. Same for Category:Canadian trade unions, Category:British trade unions, Category:United States labor unions.

So i dont see why it is ambiguous to have Mexican trade unions also categorized under category:Mexican society.. ¿what you think?...

Mario Cimarro & Cesar Evora

[edit]

Ok I think I found a halfway point for both. They don't stop being cuban just because they are citizens of that country since it's not only a nationality but who they and their parents are. My friends are still mexican even after becoming american citizens. Their "mexican" doesn't fade away or anything, it's still who they are even if they are also now american by naturalization. Thus I have now changed both intros so they reflect both sides/aspect of who they are and it's more clear for people who have no clue who they are. I think this is fair since it reflects one without omitting the other.Mailyn 04:07, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pimería Alta

[edit]

You added the category "Former States of Mexico" to the entry for Pimería Alta. Is this so? I have been under the impression that the Pimería Alta was a vaguely delineated territory within New Spain (it appears on old maps), but never any sort of formal administrative area within independent Mexico. I have assumed the area simply became part of Sonora upon Mexican independence. If this is so, then Pimería Alta cannot be categorized as having been a former state of Mexico. Was it indeed organized as a separate entity, with its own capital, before the northern portion passed to the U.S.? Regards, User:Jsch, 01:57 MST, 16 Dec 2005

Zapata

[edit]

Hello Vizcarra, Is Laura Zapata sister of Thalia's father? I believe they (Thalia and Laura) are half-sisters. When i created the Sodi family article i didnt include Laura because i was not sure whether she was a Sodi or not. (Most probably she is not but im not sure)

Also, is Demetrio Sodi de la Tijera son of Sodi Guerge. I think he is Thalia's cousin not uncle.

Hola

I am not a native speaker, but thank you for helping me on the article on Spanish profanity. I see some inaccuracies, and I know that a native speaker of Spanish, such as yourself, can help me. I have spent the past hour translating it (not word for word) from its Spanish article. I hope I haven't made many mistakes, and I am going to withdraw my AfD nomination like now. εγκυκλοπαίδεια* 01:01, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Conclusion

[edit]

Ok fine, if you nominate the Catalonian, Basque, Castilian, and Galician Mexicans cateories for deletion, i'll also nominte my own category Spanish Mexicans and will arrange Mexican people by ethnicity according to facts, not surnames (that goes for both of us!). What do you say? ---> Sagitario 03:54, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fist of all, there will be no more arguements between me and you... I mean, i know it was my idea to create that Spanish Mexicans category in the first place, but if i would've known you would create those specific subcategories, i would've never given you the idea. Well, i don't know what else to say, i guess you can imagine the benefits. I'll even let other categories i don't agree with pass, instead of also nominating them for deletion. You get the idea... ---> Sagitario 04:46, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Categorizing People

[edit]

Example, Paul Rodriguez wouldn't be considered a "Mexican actor" because... 1.) He has lived in US most his life. 2.) He began her career in in the US, not in Mexico. 3.) He's only Mexican by birth and nothing else. That's the reason why i categorized him in Mexican people instead of Mexican actors (That's the way it should be). However, he could've been categorized under both American and Mexican actors if would've began her career in Mexico and then moved to the US (like Salma Hayek). ---> Sagitario 03:40, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You have to understand that "that's the way it should be" it's nothing more than your opinion, and any other person may have their own opinion as well and different than yours. "Mexican actor" does not imply any performances taking place in Mexico, it just implies that he is Mexican, by either birth or citizenship and his profession is an actor. It doesn't help having anybody in the Category:Mexican people unless they do not fit in one of the subcategories of it. --Vizcarra 03:44, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, i know he was born in Mexico, but that's it... He has nothing to do with Mexico besides being born there. That's why i categorized him under "Mexican people" instead of "Mexican actors" because he doesn't belong there. Besides, the category also implies that he's Mexican. About a person's profession... look at Natalie Glebova, a Canadian model born in Russia. She is categorized under "Russian people" instead of "Russian models". Why? because she, like, Paul Rodriguez, Angelica Maria, Michelle Vieth, etc. has nothing to do with her birth country except that, being born there. ---> Sagitario 04:17, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Fine. Carry on. But leave Angélica María as an American actress since she has done movies in the US. I guess we can do something about the Category:Mexican people... people, later. By the way, I've created Category:Mexican people by national origin, so you may work on Category:Argentine Mexicans (I thought you were working on it. --Vizcarra 04:30, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK, i'm on it ---> Sagitario 04:47, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, one more thing, i added a better description to Category:American Mexicans, i hope you don't mind... ---> Sagitario 04:50, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me. --Vizcarra 05:05, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I noticed that you are trying to get the flag of Mexico to be used through-out Wikipedia as one, similar image. I wish to let you know that I wish to work with you, and that the image I will use is Image:Flag of Mexico.png. That means I will tag the others as "redundant" and they will be slated for deletion very, very soon. Zach (Smack Back) 08:05, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks. That is the correct version. Glad you could help. --Vizcarra 08:32, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Your welcome. What I am going to do is have a bot replace some images. If the images are small in number, I will replace them by hand. I am glad that you think this flag version is correct. Zach (Smack Back) 08:35, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know?

[edit]

I'm creating an article for Sin Bandera, but do you by any chance know all of their singles? So far i have; "Entra en mi Vida", "Kilómetros", "Sirena", "Mientes tan Bien", "Que Lloro", and "Suelta mi Mano". ---> Sagitario 21:40, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Amor Real"? I don't know if it's included in any of their records since it was the theme song for Amor real, plus they released a single with Franco de Vita, "Si La Ves". --Vizcarra 22:00, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ok i saved the article, all i need is to find all their singles ---> Sagitario 22:24, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Help

[edit]

Hi, I uploaded an image of Ari Meyers within the the accordance established by Wikipedia (source and licence) and someone put it up for deletion because "it is unencyclopedic". The image is of good taste and just because it is a wallpaper image I don't think it should be deleted. Please view and if you can, express your opinion. Images and media for deletion/2005 December 24 Thank you, Tony the Marine 04:02, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Tony, the image is probably not in the public domain, which is probably why it is up for deletion. I think you can claim fair use, but you will have to explain why you want to use this image. Zach (Smack Back) 04:09, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I notice you created Category:Telenovelas by year and Category:Years in Mexico, both of which contain articles whose titles begin with a year. If you have time, could you please go through and make sure the articles are sorted in their respective year (or year-in) parent categories using sortkeys as outlined at Wikipedia:Categorization#Year categories? (Don't forget to start the sortkey with a capital letter.) If you've done this already, thanks and sorry for bugging you about this. I plan to go through a ton of such pages early next year; it would be nice if some of the work were already done... - dcljr (talk) 01:28, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cfd closing

[edit]

There really aren't any deletion guidelines for WP:CFD when concerning the amount of votes needed to result as a consensus. Due to that it is the job of the admin to fairly determine the result of the discussion. I went with the majority here. 4-3 - however small of a margin. I read through the discussion and listened to everyone's input and I agreed with deleting. K1Bond007 20:08, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion was actually 5-3. I forgot to add the original nominator in my last comment. So that would be over 60%. I also agree with the majority here. Very much overcategorization. K1Bond007 20:37, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Different discussions, different admins closing. The outcome for this one also had a larger percentage of the majority than the previous one. What can I say. K1Bond007 20:54, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
