I am wondering if you are planning on expanding the article Galbraith supermarkets? If not, it should be moved to William Galbraith (businessman), as that is what it currently covers (the infobox would have to be changed to a Person one). The Interior(Talk) 00:08, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Galbraith name

[edit]

Hi westriding. It looks like there are three conflicting titles for the article, Galbraith supermarkets, Galbraith and Sons, Ltd. and Galbraith Stores. From your reading, which is the dominant name? (The existing one should be changed as WP titles usually just use the proper name, unless there are several similarly-named subjects). The Interior (Talk) 11:56, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

== Galbraith's History == The first shop was actually in Linwood and not Paisley. See http://www.galbraithbusinesssolutions.com/about-us and http://www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/ilwwcm/publishing.nsf/Content/els-Linwood%28OurHistoryandHeritage%29 . It has also been verbally verified by existing family members.

Amended 18-09-11 - thanks Westriding (talk) 09:07, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have heard on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=49361067303&topic=6863 that it may have been started by one branch of the family and then taken over by another but I have not verified this.

The father of William Galbraith opened the Linwood store, William's brother (John) also operated grocery stores (5) but it appears to be William that really expanded the concern. Technically Galbraith Stores was started by William (the son) - his first store was founded in 1884 at Sandholes Street, Pailsey (Retailing Revolution, Peter Mathias). == Galbraith's Name ==

The name was always Galbraith's Stores. The function of the shop was a supermarket and they were pioneers of supermarkets in Scotland but it was never in the company name

I have seen all 3 variations used and will look further into this! Westriding (talk) 09:07, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hope this helps.

World Factoring Yearbook

[edit]

I'm leaving this message as you're listed as a current participant of WikiProject Business. I was informed yesterday that the current World Factoring Yearbook (circa £150) is now free for download as an ebook. It's a matter of filling out this form. I'm not sure if you'll find this useful as a reliable source, but I thought I should let you know that it's freely available online. I apologise in advance if this doesn't interest you!
