Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, WhitingRW. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Charif Shanahan, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. AntiDionysius (talk) 15:29, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would advise reading this policy; repeatedly adding citations with which you are affiliated is not allowed on Wikipedia. AntiDionysius (talk) 15:31, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:48, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

My apologies! I just started a new position at the Whiting Foundation and just created a Wiki account. However, I did not realize that I wasn't allowed to edit articles about the organization or for promotion of the organization, but I've since read your guidelines and completely understand. I am not receiving compensation to edit articles for promotion of the Whiting Award--I thought this was a helpful thing to do of my own accord. I will not do this in the future. I plan on editing author pages with updates of awards and publications. Thank you for your understanding.

Decline reason:

If you are employed by Whiting, you are a paid editor, you do not need to be specifically paid to edit. (Otherwise every paid editor would deny being specifically paid to edit) Please tell how your future edits will be consistent with the conflict of interest policy. 331dot (talk) 23:22, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Request reason:

Hello, after reading the guidelines, I will not edit or create articles pertaining to the company I work at. If I do want to propose a change, I will make sure to do it in the "talk" section and will always disclose my relationship. I'm sorry again for the confusion. WhitingRW (talk) 14:46, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

Unblocked. Please be careful to keep to your commitment to not edit or create articles pertaining to the company I work at. If I do want to propose a change, I will make sure to do it in the "talk" section and will always disclose my relationship. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 20:52, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Hey man im josh: I would be inclined to accept this commitment (in the understanding that violating it will be an instant indef). After renaming, do you object to unblocking? HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 19:30, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No objection at all HouseBlaster. For future reference, you are always more than welcome to unblock an individual I've blocked based on their username. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:36, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot: would you be able to rename this user to girlinpublishing? Thanks, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 19:45, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
