FA's

I know that some of my own FA's have barely passed, but I wish dearly that there was a new category of editor (writer, perhaps?) who had extensive knowledge / qualifications and could veto poor FA's. It's a democracy of fools over there! Michael ^talk 07:16, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Well Sandy and Tony are the tough ones but they only seem to check the MOS and prose. You can pass heaps of things with black holes. Even with the Ahmedabad one heaps of the Indian FA writers (some with multiple and 10+ FAs) let the unsourced bits through anyway. As far as the content goes, it's possible to pass almost anything....(or lack thereof). Adam Gilchrist was passing rather handsomely until I stepped in and insisted that a few black holes be rectified. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:25, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Group swarming is a serious problem; any group, of any kind of type, can simply amass people to throw support votes in. This is especially dangerous when it comes to users who all contributed to it or its associated Wikiproject. It's interesting that the Indian editors let something defective through, as I'm usually very impressed with what they've done around here... the 'brothers in arms' mentality is a deficit to the encyclopedia. Unfortunately even the most experienced FA writers seem to put too much emphasis on prose and MOS imho. Although even if you have a strong writing contingent, there will always be some project members who don't write so much themselves and thus tend to support very liberally as they don't put such a high price on an FA. Hi. Thanks for telling me about the 3 revert rule. I didn't know about it. I'd like to know something though; why do you people always revert my articles eventhough I quote credible sources? Also, England psychologically lost the game due to the jelly bean thing. And, who scientifically proved that Ganguly was the bad-boy of cricket (Sledging article)? With all due respect to your contributions, I think your edits SLANT the articles in favour of a particular set of people. It seems that the whole truth is being censored on purpose. All coins have two sides. Then why are you people supressing one side of the story eventhough I add credible sources as proof? Indeed you have provided credible sources. But the main issue here that me and the other folks are citing is WP:N. We don't feel that these incidents has passed the test of time yet to know if they are important enough examples to be used. We do not know that England lost because of the jellybean. We do know that Zaheer Khan said that the jellybeans fired him up and cited that as being a big performance. The batsmen had already got a 280 run lead when this incident happened. Your edit asserted it as fact that the game was decided by teh beans. This cannot be shown. I did not say that Ganguly was the bad boy. It simply noted that the Australian media demonised (wrongly in my opinion, it was just jingoistic barracking per all sport newspapers) - that instance and Ranatunga for instance are quite notable because they riled the Australians, won and it was still talked of years later..... We do not know yet if the jellybean thing will still be talked about during the next series between India and England, but whenever India play Australia, Ganguly's brinkmanship is always noted. My plan

Based upon the discussion and kind words offered by you and others my plan is to do these things:

1. Edit less than normal, for awhile anyway.
2. Contribute less to discussion pages in the WP namespace, (save those discussions I am involved in currently)
3. Try not to let Wikipedia upset me so much (which it does at times and my edits reflect it, i.e. I become rather hostile towards some people)
4. Try to remember just how shitty of a school Northern Illinois University is, and that the president there is more likely to have graduated from Hollywood Upstairs Medical College than anywhere else.

RE CMH

As to gaining access to images from the U.S. Army's Center of Military History, all I can say is that it is a crapshoot. The repository of the Army's media images seems to be extremely lax in allowing access over the internet (as you can probably tell). Most of the images I possess came from personal visits in graduate school doing research on Vietnam era activities. Their internet offerings can be extremely frustrating. For example, a current gander at their site reveals a whole series of pictures taken during Operation MacArthur (the Battle of Dak To). I now happen to be in the process of editing an article on Wiki covering the battle. Unfortunately, none of them are quite useful. Thus are the vicissitudes of current internet deployment (as far as the U.S. Military goes). RM Gillespie 06:57, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi - For my edification, why no action on Arrow740? The vandalism seemed obvious (user was removing multiple valid edits with no reason) and persistent (it happened many times). Rene Reinmann

I have nominated Rene Reinmann for deletion. (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rene Reinmann.) I consider it an attack page at a non-notable Tallinn City Council member, failing WP:BLP. I should have nominated the article earlier, but for the last two months I have refrained from editing anything that User:Digwuren might be involved with. Placing this attack on the front page in the WP:DYK section is however a step too far. You know, I just realized that it was you who awarded me the DYK Medal. That was a true surprise. In regard to your comments on the Hispanic Americans in World War II FAC, I have to admit that at first glance I was too blind to see exactly what you meant, but you where right. There were a lot of suspect references and it was too romanticed and so on . I'm not making excuses, but my health has limited my activities here and I guess I just couldn't think straight.

However, I have taken your concerns very seriously and revamped and made a complete overhual (re-wretten and copyedited) of the article. All of the referencing concerns have been taken care of as witnessed by users: Mattisse, AnonEMouse and SandyGeorgia all of which are experienced FAC editors and neutral.

Kannada Telugu stuff

Sir, this web page continues to hang around and is in some ways the bone of conflict thats still on going. After you helped to clean up the Telugu script page by removing unsourced images etc, the contents of this web page has made it to the Andhra Pradesh article where another edit war is in the offing. user:Kumarrao is back questioning the opinion of more than 10 historians (I think 15 historians) on the Chalukya page ( I have reverted both the article and talk page to prevent trolling). I have explained to him time and again that one web page by an Engineering student cant hold sway against many historians per WP:UNDUE, but this does seem to have any effect. I do not believe he is going to let go of this web page that easily because this is the only source he has to help his theory. Another source he quotes frequently is a pdf file by Durga Prasad which goes something like this " Like the Kadambas and Chutus, from the Muruturu grant it is clear that the Chalukyas were natives of this region". The author clearly does not say what region and as such the Kadambas and Chutus are natives to the Karnataka region and ruled from Banavasi. I have seen your comment that I have certain agenda. I would like to know what it is. Regarding the webpage of Adluri, I am ready to accept that it is a personal webpage and will not satisfy WP:RS. In the same vein, can you advise User:Dineshkannambadi who complained to you, to refrain from citing personal and webpages such as www.kamat.com, www.ourkarnataka.com, vedambooks.com (which advertises books), newspaper articles etc. Please see, for instance: Karnataka, History of Karnataka, Chalukyas etc in which the above user cited such references. All the articles written by this user have more than 90% citations from a few sources such as a book written by S. U. Kamath, ourkarnataka.com etc. He occasionally sprinkles books by Nilakanta Sastri and Thapar. Please spend some time to analyse these articles and decide whom to advise. I would say that people have pointed to you that Adluri is an engineer who is doing this as a hobby and is not a published linguistics researcher. I believe that Kamat is simply a mirror of the website of a historian so as long as what appears on the website has also been replicated in proper books, then that is fine. As for ourkarnataka I was told that it was there to give an online version of what is already in the book. If it isn't then that may be problem.. Well, the WP:3RR does say that 4R in 24 hours is not a golden fence, so by doing 4R in 24 hours and 7 minutes it would be viewed as a cynical move. This can be viewed as disruptive expecially when a large consensus on the talk page believes that you are persistently reinserting unacceptable sources. since you are outnumbered, you cannot outrevert yourself to victory to reverting over and over, especially at "maximum quota" tends to be viewed as disruptive. Buddhist deletions

You're in a much better position to know than I am about what the Buddhism project considers within its scope. Personally, all the articles I listed fall within at least one of the subcats of Category:Buddhism, including the ones you removed from the project. Personally, were it me, I would restore them. All those individuals are, after all, Buddhists. They may not be the highest priority articles for the project, but they do tend to make the project's numbers look better, which can help. Anyway, the decision is yours. I think I've added the banner to all the articles on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Buddhism/Articles page, so I'm more or less done with the assessments now. I am now off to trying to assess all the other religion projects, because most of the projects don't do many assessments on their own. It is my intention to contribute a bit more to the projects when the assessments are done, if nothing else to doing a little to improve the 1.0 selections. Good luck with the project until then.
