Witnesses
[edit]I think you can move it to mainspace now. I've added significant amount of stuff. I suggest the article title should be "Witnesses and testimonies of the Armenian Genocide"...some redirect should apply as well...for example, "Witnesses of the Armenian Genocide" should be redirected. Also, don't forget to add it to the Armenian Genocide template. Proudbolsahye (talk) 21:25, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

- Sure it's not. The guy has been acting the worst possible way and the admins are trying to keep some kind of "neutrality" I guess. I should probably leave the arena to users like him who can arbitrarily change the infobox of an ethnic group article and refuse to discuss anything and still not be blocked. Makes perfect sense to me. Maybe you guys need like 5 days to make a decision. Take your time man. --Երևանցի talk 16:49, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

[edit]I haven't say all or even most Armenians claim Babak is their, just little part (I saw it on Talkpage, some kid perhaps). Btw I don't agree with your conclusion that Armenian is by deafult "Apostolic Christian", Tigranes wasn't one. :) --HistorNE (talk) 19:24, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- LOL you claim to fight against "ultra-nationalism", though you assume things on the comments of "some kid". Really? Tigranes the Great lived in 1st century BC. Christianity was adopted in 301 AD. Every Armenian after that date is a Christian and that's not my conclusion, it's a historic fact. --Երևանցի talk 19:31, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- Well considering comment I guess he's around 15. :) I don't fight actually, I collect them as other people post stamps. Some of my favorites from ex-Yugoslav region is that Alexander the Great is Slavic Macedonian, Christopher Columbus is Croat and Virgin Mary is Serb. Such funny claims are based on "analizes" by local "scholars", but fortunately not so accepted to keep them on national Wikipedias. I'm not sure how Armenian Wikipedia stands with own similar issues, but I must say Azerbaijani is complete disaster - just take a look at their template History of Azerbaijan: representative photo is victory of Naram-Sin Akkadian against tribes from Luristan in 23 century BC. After seeing such nonsense I feel bigger Armenian then you are, despite not being Apostolic Christian. :) --HistorNE (talk) 20:13, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not going to comment the Azerbaijani historiography, because my country and Azerbaijan are in a state of war and everything I say here will be used against me. I don't think claims such as the Alexander the Great one being a Slav should not even be talked about. Any guy who is a little familiar with ancient history should know that he is part of the Greek civilization, not Slavic. --Երևանցի talk 20:44, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

I'm sorry that you had to deal with that. DYK has been very odd lately with long arguments about whether "woman" professor or "female" professor should be used, pulling an article from the prep area that was approved on July 16 just because of one editor's opinion about a hook, excessive nitpicking, and your nomination as well. Orlady could have simply removed "highly" and now because of that, the nomination sat there for days until I noticed it. SL93 (talk) 01:46, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Armenian help needed
[edit]Hello Yerevanci, I'm contacting you because we need some Armenian translators to help with the deployment of the new VisualEditor on hy.wikipedia. There are help pages, user guides, and description pages that need translating, as well as the interface itself. The translating work is going on over on MediaWiki: Translation Central. I also need assistance with a personal message for the Armenian Wikipedians. If you are able to help in any way, either reply here, or head over to TranslationCentral. Thanks for your time, PEarley (WMF) (talk) 16:50, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

- Yerevanci, great! We're making some progress on translating the actual VisualEditor interface text into Armenian, but there's still some cleanup to be done. Here's where the magic happens: Translatewiki.net - Armenian.
- The help documents haven't been started, though, and they are quite important. If you could do any work on the user guide or the FAQ, it would be very useful to the hy.wikipedians when VE is rolled out. Just click "translate this page" above the header to get started. Angela Merkel
[edit]Regarding your edit, please note the following WP policies:
Nationality: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biographies clearly states: "In most modern-day cases this will mean the country of which the person is a citizen, national or permanent resident, or if notable mainly for past events, the country where the person was a citizen, national or permanent resident when the person became notable."
Per WP:RS, the original source, i.e. the book, does supersede the newspaper articles that are merely based/cite from that source.
All the newspaper articles provided by Marek, are based on the same book: Stefan Kornelius, Angela Merkel: Die Kanzlerin und ihre Welt, Hoffmann und Campe, 2013, page 1915, ISBN-13: 978-3455502916. The book (all the articles are based on) states that he was a "German citizen" with "Polish roots" (...deutscher Staatsbürger ... polnische Wurzeln). That's exactly what the article should state, and not some adulterated teaser version from a newspaper that claims to state the revelations/content of that very same book, while it obviously does not. All of the articles Marek has provided have copied each others content. The current version is in clear violation with several WP policies. --IIIraute (talk) 23:33, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Your recent editing history at Turkish people shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Aram Khachaturian
[edit]I saw the edit reverts regarding Aram Khachaturian and the explanatory comments accompanying them, and I thought I would point out that "one of the major musicians of the 20th century" is not the best writing in English. I know nothing about the source, but I do know something about English. If one wants to use "major musician", it would be more correct to write that he was "a major musician of the 20th century". Also, even though "major" and "great" are similar in meaning, their slightly different meanings convey a different attitude: "major" means "important" while "great" means "important, wonderful, outstanding". Finally, "major" has only one form: "major". "Great" has three forms: "great", "greater", and "greatest". Compare: He was "a major musician of the 20th century" and he was "one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century". Clearly, the second one expresses greater praise and admiration than the first.CorinneSD (talk) 22:47, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
- I would assume that any any English native speaker would have a better command of that language than me. The source says: "Aram Ilych Khachaturyan was an Armenian Soviet composer, conductor, pedagogue, a public and musical figure, a People’s Artiste of the USSR, the author of the music of the Armenian Soviet Republic’s anthem and overall one of the major musicians of the 20th century." Because I didn't want to simply copy-paste it I wrote "one of the greatest", assuming that "one of the major" and "one of the greatest" are no different. Apparently, they are. --Երևանցի talk 01:59, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- Ah - I see another editor has "got here first" on this point. Corinne's absolutely right about the distinction. Just to say that we can't say someone's "one of the greatest" unless we find a citation which actually says this; and much as I - and I'm sure many other people - love Khachaturian's music, I have to admit that there's a very large number of composers I would expect to be cited as "one of the greatest" before our dear Aram. Alfietucker (talk) 23:11, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
- You are free to have a list of your own and place Khachaturian wherever you desire. I find it quite surprising that you think there is a "very large number of composers" who are ahead of him, when he is compared to Prokofiev and Shostakovich, who are also called one of the greatest (or whatever word you want to use) composers of the 20th century. --Երևանցի talk 01:48, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- Well ultimately, as far as Wikipedia is concerned, it's not my opinion (or anyone else's) on relative "greatness" which matters - only what is verifiable from a reliable published source. But I don't want to come across as 'curt' by not saying more, so please forgive me if I explain myself, though this is to stray - as far as Wikipedia's concerned - into the realms of original research. For the background to Khachaturian's rise, which I believe was at least as much because of his non-bourgeois and ethnic background as due to his innate talent, I recommend Amy Nelson's Music for the Revolution - this really makes a lot of sense of the "discussions" Khachaturian was having as a student in the late-1920s. I hasten to add that, notwithstanding the motivations the Soviet State had for promoting Khachaturian's career, he was clearly a benevolent force: particularly as vice-chairman of the organizing committee of the Soviet Composer's Union, Khachaturian clearly understood far more about what composers needed for their creativity and well-being than did such Soviet officials as Platon Kherzentsev. This, I think, explains why he was so viciously attacked in 1948 - the supposed transgression of composing the Symphonic Poem seems to me simply convenient ammunition. A fair number of scholars are beginning to argue that 1948 was not at root about discordant music - that was, at best, a symptom - but about the far too autonomous role the Composer's Union and its organizing committee in particular was playing, awarding huge sums of money to Shostakovich and Prokofiev in particular via commissions and Stalin Prizes. Khachaturian's key role in this made him an obvious target. Until then, he was certainly promoted as a "titan" of Soviet music - largely due to having the approved ethnic and non-bourgeois background, so becoming an ideal Soviet-nurtured "star" the state could proudly "show off" and indeed export through his Piano and Violin concertos and such popular hits as the "Sabre Dance". Khachaturian's talent was, I think, rather greater than this implies, but still not as great as a composer as either Shostakovich or Prokofiev. Alfietucker (talk) 09:07, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- Honestly, I don't know much about his biography in order to agree or disagree with you, but the point is that he is a well known composer that lived in the 20th century. Whether you or me put him in the list of the "greatest", he is quite known. He might have been promoted as a star by the Soviet state for the given reasons, but that's a small detail in my opinion, because at last, every great composer (and other artists) had been in some way supported by the state. --Երևանցի talk 20:14, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

- At the risk of upsetting people who follow WPs injunction against opinion, I want to weigh in again on "one of the greatest musicians (or composers) of the 20th century". To say that is not to say anything about whether he is greater, or less great, than other great musicians (or composers) of the 20th century. There is no comparison implied here to other great musicians/composers of the 20th century such as Shostakovich and Prokofiev. There is comparison to all musicians/composers of the 20th century. I think there is plenty of evidence for this, and music historians can add the references. Also, the people who are most likely to read this article are those who know nothing, or very little, about Aram Khachaturian. If we remove every last shred of "opinion" such as this from Wikepedia articles, the articles will be dull and boring.CorinneSD (talk) 17:27, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, Yerevanci. This is a courtesy notice that the copy edit you requested for Vazgen Sargsyan at the Guild of Copy Editors requests page is now complete. All feedback welcome! JudyCS (talk) 00:18, 30 September 2013 (UTC) |
- Thank you! Much appreciated. --Երևանցի talk 01:12, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
You created the page but was it a spill over from another page that grew too long? It seemed well developed already. Alatari (talk) 01:27, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes I created a new article because Ethnic cleansings was too long. I didn't actually make the list, all I did was a simple copy-paste. --Երևանցի talk 01:31, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! Someone found some sources I had been looking for a few years back and I want to thank them.Alatari (talk) 02:38, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
Wait, what? What happened? The listing in Ethnic cleansings is longer and more detailed than List of ethnic cleansings. Consensus to shorten the article wasn't achieved? Alatari (talk) 02:45, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I just noticed that, it's strange. I thought the list was fully integrated to the list article. --Երևանցի talk 02:56, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Tatev ruined.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Tatev ruined.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. ☼ 21:43, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

Attribution history for subpages
[edit]Hi Yerevanci. I've deleted most of your user subpages as you've requested. There were just two I was unsure of, as they were copy-pasted rather than moved into mainspace, and therefore your collaborators on them have not had their edits attributed correctly. Those users are User:TheShadowCrow on Wrestling in Armenia, and User:Proudbolsahye on Atatürk's cult of personality. [3] [4] The attribution could be corrected by performing a history merge of the user subpages and the mainspace articles. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 06:38, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

- Thank you for your interest. I found only one source. Here's some useful information from it. It's 6.5 meters high, it used to have 6 columns. It was built using "yellow stones" and basalt. The article confirms that it was built in 1625. The only wall that is still standing is the northern one, while the southern wall is completely ruined. Its size is 15x10 meters. It was renovated in the 1800s. There are tombstones around the church, perhaps of the members of a wealthy family that financed its renovation.

about the new infobox in the Ani article
[edit]Hi, I'm the guy who just did some minor edits on Ani. Through the comments on the successive edits you made, I understood you had some questions about my edits, so let me explain. I mentioned the 18th century as the period of abandonment in the infobox because of the following sentence in the "Sacking and desolation" subsection of the "History" section:
- "A small town remained within its walls at least until the middle of the 17th century, but the site was entirely abandoned by the middle of the 18th. The depopulation of Ani was paralleled by the depopulation of its rural hinterland as a result of political unrest in the border region during the Ottoman-Iranian wars and a fragmentation of central control by either of the empires."
I considered this the end of the occupation, but I guess you're right with your correction to 1319. However, it's strange the earthquake of the year 1319 isn't discussed at all in the "Sacking and desolation" section, maybe someone could clarify this? --AlexanderVanLoon (talk) 15:07, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Alexander. I guess it might be right, but unfortunately there is no source to back it up so its safer to have 1319 for abandonment. I've been trying to improve the lead first of all that's why I added a sentence about the earthquake to the lead first. I'll try to work on the history section as well. Some parts of it are well-sourced, but other (e.g. the section you mentioned) lack sources. --Երևանցի talk 15:15, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, that makes sense. I've just looked at your latest sequence of edits, and this is the first time I see another Wikipedian editing an article with the same enthusiasm and scrutiny as I have. Maybe it's because I mainly edit exotic and less popular articles, most articles on archaeological sites don't see much activity. However, I think the article's source text has become difficult to read and edit because of the clutter caused by the long references. In the articles I've written – Sybaris for example – I've used named references. This way all the content of the references goes in the References section and you just place a link to the reference in the text. Would you object if I convert all references in Ani's article to named references too? --AlexanderVanLoon (talk) 09:49, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
- No problem, you can go ahead and do it if it makes editing easier. --Երևանցի talk 22:19, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Warning
[edit]Your recent editing history at Erzurum shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war.
Yozer1 (talk) 16:28, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- The user was blocked, but I would like to warn you as well as a neutral administrator. You made three reverts in the article today, and the fourth revert would get you blocked. (This is not going to happen today since I protected the article as well). Despite your statement on ANI, what you were reverting is NOT vandalism, you were simply involved into a content dispute and have chosen not to follow conventional dispute resolution avenues. Next time you might be blocked for edit warring as well.--Ymblanter (talk) 17:10, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- @User:Ymblanter Well, what do you call an addition of unsourced information? In my understanding "content dispute" is when the content is sourced by reliable sources. When a user simply alters the text without adding sources it is vandalism. Any Wikipedia user is entitled to revert addition of unsourced information, right? --Երևանցի talk 17:16, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- Would you please read carefully Wikipedia:Vandalism, it contains responses to most of your questions. Definitely not every user is entitled to remove any unsourced material they do not like, and they are certainly not allowed to edit-war about this removal.--Ymblanter (talk) 17:19, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

- (Aside) To be fair, Yerevanci only made two reverts in the article today by my count. The other one was two days ago. HelenOnline 17:26, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

- Yozer1 stated "The sources are easy to provide" and yet he did not provide any source whatsoever. As HelenOnline noted: "the onus is on you (Yozer1) to add the necessary WP:RS. Armenians at Turkey Gezi park protests
[edit]I see that you've removed Armenians from the list of anti-government protestors. You are right, source is a blog link. But I'm really curious, why does it bother you to think that Armenians also joined the protests?Gezginrocker (talk) 01:14, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- Armenians are an ethnic group of 8 million people. Did they all participate in the protests? Did all Istanbul Armenians participate in the anti-government protests? From what I know, only a small group of Armenian youth of Istnanbul joined the protests. If you or anyone else wants to add Armenians to the infobox it should be specified what group of Armenians took part. And please add reliable sources. Thank you. --Երևանցի talk 01:20, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
Karabakh War
[edit]Can this picture be added to the Karabakh War page? It's a picture of Samil Basayev (left), Ibn Al-Khattab (middle) and Heydar Jemal (right) during the Karabakh War. http://forum.hyeclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2506&d=1332612292 This basically proves that Basayev, Chechnya, Al-Khattab (Afghanistan) and Jemal (Azerbaijan) were working together during the war. Ninetoyadome (talk) 18:51, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, no. It's a 20 year old picture and there's no way it's in public domain. I mean you can always try uploading it under non-free use rationale, but you need to prove that it has an encyclopedic value. Also, I don't think a picture is neccesary. I mean, nobody seems to argue that Basayev and radical groups from Afghanistan fought in Karabakh. --Երևանցի talk 19:01, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- The whole thing would be the presence of Ibn Al-Khattab, the man in the middle, who Azeris claim was not involved in the war, but like you said it will probably be difficult to prove it's value. It was worth a shot. Ninetoyadome (talk) 06:00, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
2013 Ukraine pro-European Union protests
[edit]Hi, I just want to ask you something. I just saw that in some Ukrainian media the protests are also dubbed " Єврореволюція". (I do not know Ukrainian but I can read something. I have some difficulties reading Ukrainian but at least it is Slavic with Cyrillic alphabet). Is Eurorevolution popular name for the protests in Ukraine right now? If it is, may be we have to add it together with the Euromaidan. Чао. Olsonspterom (talk) 01:15, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, "Єврореволюція" does seem to be another popular term used in Ukraine. I just added it to the article. --Երևանցի talk 01:34, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. Olsonspterom (talk) 01:44, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Re:Lori Province
[edit]Yerevantsi, what's the problem with the Georgian name in this article? The area had been under Georgian rule several times in the course of history, including the relatively recent period of the Russian Civil War era, and there are many inscriptions in Georgian dating from the 12th to the 20th century. --KoberTalk 04:27, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Aznavour
[edit]Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war.
In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. . Lkahd (talk) 10:36, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
