Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic
Programming Language(s): AWB
Function Summary: Adding code to WikiProject banners
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): one-time run
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y
Function Details: Per this discussion, we need to add to the code that does categorisation into the Category:Articles by quality tree in most WikiProject banners. Currently most banners contain code like
... |FA|Fa|fa= |A|a= |GA|Ga|ga= |B|b= |Start|start= |Stub|stub= ...
We need to add the line
|C|c=
filling in PROJECT as necessary. This is an easy task for AWB's find-and-replace. The only snag are the projects that have opted-out of C-Class; I intend to simply remove their banners from the list before handing it to AWB. I can't guarrantee to get them all, only the ones that have identified themselves with WP:1.0, but since it's only a 1-time run, any reverted edits won't be remade. [edit]On a related note, perhaps it would be better to implement a meta template of some sort instead of simply adding a line? For the most part the assessments are standardized, but the code is an ugly mess for a lot of the WikiProjects (lots of copying and pasting). Perhaps coming up with a standardized WikiProject banner would be better and then having a bot (or humans) set that up one time would be better?
If you do decide to simply add the C-class line, I would recommend figuring out what to do with the category description page. Either having a bot create it or leaving a note on the WikiProject talk page telling them to create it. And, of course, instructions (what qualifies as C-class, etc.) will need to be updated, so perhaps you could mention that in the note as well. --MZMcBride (talk) 20:17, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Cough
WPBannerMeta
:D. Unfortunately, its deployment is still proceeding quite slowly - we have 368 banners using the template, against about 850 that aren't. This is just a quick-and-easy stopgap measure - the ultimate goal is to deploy WPBannerMeta universally or near-universally. All the C-Class categories have already been created (see Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/MelonBot 7!), so there shouldn't be any issues there. Many projects transcludegrading scheme
to serve as assessment instructions, which has been updated with the new criteria and class. Of course there are a considerable number of projects that don't do that, but the variety of the instructions they do use precludes using a bot to update those. Happy‑melon 09:01, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Approved for trial (20 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Looks pretty obviously useful. Let's just make sure it does what we expect. – Quadell (talk) 10:54, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fifteen or so edits in the bank. No problems to note, except for a couple of protected templates that were skipped. I'll reload that list and run it through on this account at the end, I think - easiest way. Good to go? Happy‑melon 18:50, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]- Dude, it's been less than 24 hours. I'm just waiting for others to have a chance to look over the changes and comment. Give it a couple days. – Quadell (talk) 13:38, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Ok, if that's what you want to do. The template wasn't "I want approval now" so much as "is anyone actually listening?". Happy‑melon 13:44, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oh, we are always watching, mwa-ha-ha. – Quadell (talk) 13:58, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
