Automatic or Manually Assisted:
Programming Language(s): PyWikipedia
Function Summary: Per this discussion, we have realized that several hundred articles have titles that fail Wikipedia:DASH, which states When naming an article, a hyphen is not used as a substitute for an en dash that properly belongs in the title. The bot will move all relevant pages and update all links.
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): one time run
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y
Function Details: I will wait until after the 2008 Summer Olympics before running it. This dash issue applies to all prior Olympics as well. The bot will first cycle through all of the pages of the form: Fencing at the 2008 Summer Olympics - Men's épée and move the article to the same title but with the hyphen replaced with an en dash. A spaced en dash can be substituted for an unspaced em dash and looks better in the titles. The bot will keep track of all the page moves and then go through the "what links here" on each of them and update the links. All links will be updated in one edit, and templates will be processed first.
I have no plans to run this process until after the edit frenzy of the current games, but want to get this process going as it can take a awhile.

- How will you be sure that a hyphen is not the correct punctuation in the title (e.g. Sit-in)? – Quadell (talk) 13:26, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- The Wikipedia:WikiProject Olympics raised the question to the Wikipedia:Naming conventions and it was recommended that said replacement should be made, assuring that the old pages with hyphenated titles remain as redirects. Parutakupiu (talk) 23:55, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- "...and update all links." What does that mean? Certainly you're not going to be bypassing redirects, right? --MZMcBride (talk) 06:26, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
