This is an interesting nomination. This list is comprehensive because it includes national anthems for every existing sovereign state. It also has several general references to support the list, and if that is not enough, every national anthem is linked to so you can learn more about them. I added the "X" section, even though there are no countries that begin with "X", because it gives less surprise to people who click on "X" and think that it will jump them there. - Oppose:
- Deficient intro.
- Way too broad; IMO, anthems for entities that aren't presently independent countries should be split off into another article. We run into some POV issues; do we include constituent UK countries? What about constituent Russian republics? U.S. states? Autonomous parts of other countries?
- I could be wrong about this, but I think italics are unacceptable, accessibility-wise; information should not be transmitted solely through formatting. (all the more reason to split those out of this list)
- --Golbez (talk) 03:07, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I have expanded the lead and I have split the italicized items to another list. Gary King (talk) 03:21, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Missing Kosovo.
- The Koreas and Taiwan are listed twice; need to pick one and go with it, I think.
- Intro still refers to italicized entries. --Golbez (talk) 04:05, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Kosovo does not have a national anthem and is in the process of creating one. List of countries lists Koreas and China/Taiwan as separate countries, and I would have to agree; China and Taiwan also have different anthems. I've fixed the intro. Gary King (talk) 05:15, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- You misunderstood me; North Korea, South Korea, and the Republic of China each appear twice in the list; check the K, N, S, T, and C sections. --Golbez (talk) 16:00, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Lead seems very short - four very short sentences. And no image? There must be something appropriate at Commons.
- Why is The out of the link in The Bahamas? It's very easy to pipe link it!
- Needs an explanation of the difference between Royal and National anthems.
- "Milli Tharana" is not translated. Along with several others.
- Why have W and X sections if they're empty?
- Hang's ref has a spare full stop.
- It's a personal feeling, but this list doesn't do a lot more than the National anthem, template at the bottom does it?
Some things to consider before I can support. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:06, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- All done. This list provides the name of the anthem and the translation, while the template does not. Also, strangely, the template is only used in this list and in National anthem. In my opinion it should be added to all national anthem articles. Gary King (talk) 20:33, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not far off though. Here's my nit-picks:
- I'm not sure that "An anthem is a hymn or song expressing patriotic sentiment" is true for all national anthems and it's definitely not a good definition of a n.a., which is what I'd expect in the opening sentence. It's also uncited, which doesn't surprise me given the deficiencies I just mentioned. Find a good definition in a RS and put it in that sentence's place.
- It was from Britannica. I've cited it (the cite was also a few sentences later, but I've added another one after this sentence.) Gary King (talk) 18:54, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I think it's outdated or inaccurate. How can an instrumental (like Spain's) "express" any "sentiment" at all? The sentiment is applied by the listener, and usually, but (significantly) not always, explicitly expressed by the anthem itself. Do you have a good dictionary to hand? --Dweller (talk) 12:48, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- I think MOSNUM says that "nineteenth" should be 19th

- "between 1568 and 1572" may indeed be "during the Eighty Years War" but why mention the fact, unless it's relevant to the development of the anthem (in which case...)

- "nither" is a typo
- Done Gary King (talk) 17:49, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I know what "rose to prominence" means, but in its context it doesn't make much sense and it's also uncited, I think

- End of Lead implies that all anthems other than Spain have words... aren't there others which are just instrumentals? Presumably that 2007 competition is long since finished... what happened?
- Done Gary King (talk) 17:49, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- This is going to be annoying, but I'd really expect a column of dates of when the anthem was adopted
- Any news on this one?
- If I've got time to tear myself away from 3 FACs, 9 FLCs, and 6 GANs... then this will possibly be done. Feel free to help out, as it's simply a matter of copying and pasting from the target articles. Gary King (talk) 17:38, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Countries like Wales and Scotland have anthems (other than GSTQueen) that are worth considering. While they're part of the UK, they still have anthems of a sort. I'm sure there are others like this.
- List of anthems is used for this purpose. Gary King (talk) 18:54, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Hmm, I guess they're not independent. Yet! Fine. --Dweller (talk) 12:48, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
