I am nominating this for featured list. The only other FL city lists are Tennesse and Arizona. I've added the etymology column used in county lists such as Utah's. Bgwhite (talk) 17:56, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • Added wikilink to Wasatch Front. The use of "along" or "in" depends on what is your definition of Wasatch Front. It can mean the western side of the Wasatch mountains, so "along" would be correct. It can also mean the general area including the valleys and mountains, so "in" would be correct. Common verbiage in Utah is to say "along" no matter what definition of Wasatch Front you use. Bgwhite (talk) 20:04, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Lead image could be increased in size.
  • And the caption for it needs a full stop.
  • I would link municipal charter as it seems quite relevant here.
  • "the first European settlement." where? Clarify for the non-US readers.
  • "Initial colonization along the Wasatch Front were mostly..." "was mostly" (colonization is singular).
  • Wasatch Front is overlinked in the lead.
  • Note A just says "city" but some of the places with note A are towns according to your definition in the lead.
  • Why does sq mi not have a leading zero for areas of less than 1 sq mi while sq km does?
  • Lots of blank cells in the Year settled column, a note would be useful to let us know why.
  • Same for etymology. Especially since you have at least one "Unknown" there.

    • "As of 2008, there are 243 incorporated cities and towns in the U.S. state of Utah. A municipality is called a town if the population is under 1,000 people. If the population is over 1,000, the municipality is called a city." I suggest combining these sentences; "As for 2008, there are 243 incorporated municipalities in the U.S. state of Utah. A municipality is called a town if the population is under 1000, and a city if it is over 1000." or something along those lines. That way, you aren't repeating as much, and you do in two sentences what was done in three.
    • Out of curiosity, are any county seats unincorporated?
    • I see a redlink... which brings up a problem. There's no specific reference saying Central Valley exists, and there's no general references provided for the list. Don't make me hunt through the specific references; you need to either provide a general reference outside of the reflist, or (not as good IMO) source each entry individually. Either way, as it currently stands, at the very least the Central Valley entry is considered unsourced.

  • Comment - "Named" is overused in the etymology column. Since that's what etymology means, it's not necessary to use it, and it's used somewhat randomly. Compare "Named after the grove of cottonwood trees found in the area" with "Red-colored mounds west of town", or "Named after Saratoga, New York and the local springs" with "Naples, Italy." Some of these make some sense (the entry for Enterprise, for example), but if possible, try to prose the word "Named" out of the column, where appropriate. "Etymology" is basically fancy-speak for "Named for", so don't repeat yourself. ;) --Golbez (talk) 22:01, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I made some changes, but the etymology for Enterprise is strange. "Name reflected the ability to adjust to problems experienced by the first settlers" Who's adjusting? Should it read, "Name reflected the first settlers' ability to adjust to problems"?
  • I'm still a little concerned over the redlink for Central Valley; I know the town was incorporated since the Rambot run, but perhaps a stub could still be thrown up based on what we know?
  • Finally, the 'settled' column ... is there information on when a municipality was incorporated? If so, and if it's complete, this should be added to the table, I would suggest possibly at the expense of the elevation table. Utah is high, we get it. ;) I'm not sure the elevation contributes significantly to an understanding of the list entry...
  • As other city pages used incorporated, I was originally going to use it. However, it was slow going to find info. I was getting information on about 1/4 of the cities. I called three cities to find info and they said they had the year settled on their letterhead, but they would have to ask somebody on when the city was incorporated... I gave up and just used settled. BTW... Utah is not high :) BYU was just named the most stone-cold sober school for 13th year running. However, Utah leads the nation in per capita use of prescription drugs, especially anti-depression drugs. (Insert jokes here). Bgwhite (talk) 23:57, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Heh, my school (GWU) was named, I think, the #2 party school in the country by Playboy when I was there in the 90s. It thoroughly confused us. ;) Hrm. The incorporated thing nags at me, but if there is no easy sourcing for that then I'm fine with letting that slide... for now. ;) Keep up and you might find some source at some point, but as the list is it's good enough. :) Support. Though, one last comment: Dabomb suggested ^, #, and *, and I personally think * is a much better 'first indicator' than the others, and suggest you replace # with * in the article. --Golbez (talk) 15:39, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Not directly related, but I noticed that Town does not mention the definition of a town in Utah. Perhaps you could add one? Also, pipe the town link to [[Town#United States]], or [[Town#Utah]] if you add that section.
  • You link Church of the Latter-Day Saints, but perhaps you should link "Mormon", too.
  • "The largest city is the state's capital of Salt Lake City with a population of 181,698 and the former coal mining town of Scofield is the smallest town with 26 people." A bit of a run-on. Add a comma after "181,698", I think.
  • Perhaps mention that William Jennings Bryan was a presidential candidate?
  • Bold used as an indicator is generally discouraged by the MOS. I'd suggest a symbol, such as ^ # *
  • What makes http://www.media.utah.edu/UHE/h/HUNTINGTON.html reliable? The article appears to have been written by Edward A. Geary; is he a reputable historian in this subject? Dabomb87 (talk) 19:28, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • All comments addressed. I had to look up Edward Geary. He is an English professor at BYU. However, I base the Huntington article as reliable because it is from the Utah History Encyclopedia. The encyclopedia was originally published by the University of Utah and edited by Allan Kent Powell, a very notable Utah historian.
