Crow in flight Done
Article(s): Gibson Corvus
Request:
- As described in the article, the Corvus body was meant to look like a crow in flight. A {{clarify}} tag was placed on this statement, and the best illustration I could find exists on an external link (this blog). Would it be possible to recreate this illustration here, possibly even using the photograph of the crow flying? To describe the image I'm after: rotate the guitar photo 90° to the right and zoom in on the body. Then either draw lines similar to the external link or overlay the crow photo on top. It should look like a crow flying horizontally to the left, with the smaller lobe representing the bird's head, and the larger lobe representing its forward swept wings. -- Hoof Hearted (talk) 18:42, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

- Clean up, remove any noise and turn black and white. -- KAVEBEAR (talk) 06:25, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
NOTE: Despite the long discussion below on the issue how to make requests, this one is still OPEN and available to anyone who wishes to work on it.
Graphist opinion(s):
- I think it is respectful to make requests rather than demands. It's just one magic word that makes the difference: "Clean up, remove this and do that ..." or "Please clean up ..." - what do you prefer to hear?
- Manners cost nothing and are priceless. Regards MagentaGreen (talk) 09:00, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
@MagentaGreen-we're here to improve graphics-take the manners police bit elsewhere-it&s not constructive and reflects poorly on you.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 12:46, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
@Kintetsubuffalo: I replied already on my talk page, but I will repeat it gladly here: It's hopefully not asking too much, to say "please" and "thank you". By the way, counting the words that you so generously outpouring about me that would substitute for almost 20 requests, starting with one magic word. Regards, MagentaGreen (talk) 15:05, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
- I concur absolutely with MagentaGreen here. Saying "please" is a matter of simple courtesy and only takes six key strokes to include. Everybody in here is a volunteer and should be treated with at least that level of respect, especially by editors who make many many requests of those of us who give freely of our time and talents to help improve the project by fixing images that others are not able to on their own. A simple -- and prompt -- "thank you" and marked "Resolved" once a project is done is also much appreciated by the digital restoration practitioners who do this work as an acknowledgement by the requester that he/she has seen the results, accepts them as meeting the request, and appreciates the effort made by the editor who fixed the image. This has nothing whatever to do with "manners police" but is just a matter of common courtesy. As one of the most active digital image restorers in this workshop over the past several years -- but one who also only has the time to work on a limited number of images -- I am very much more likely to pick those to work on that contain the word "please" in the request and bypass (as in this case) those that don't even if they are very simple to do, and I do not think I am alone in that. "Please" and "Thank You" cost absolutely nothing for requesters to say but make, at least to me, a world of difference in whether or not I will accept their requests. Centpacrr (talk) 16:39, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
- Fantastic, but it goes against WPAGF to berate any user for not including such niceties and pretending it's a demand on their part. User:KAVEBEAR is one of the nicest, most productive users here, and for myself, I have always shown gratitude when an image is cleaned up successfully. For my part, both MagentaGreen and Centpacrr can bypass all of my image requests. I don't need to be taken to task by users who don't start from WPAGF.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 02:47, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- It wasn't a demand. May seems like it if you want to read it as such. I think I was just being short and brief. The bolded request above should make it clear that it was a request even if is absent of any magical words. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 03:04, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Kintetsubuffalo: Please tell me, where is someone berated? These are absurd accusations.
- @KAVEBEAR: "Would it be possible" in the "bolded request above" is a phrase that is generally considered as a polite question. I feel sorry, but short and brief statements do not necessarily belong to the characteristics of polite manners. But what an effort in order to continue saving 6 letters. Regards, MagentaGreen (talk) 07:17, 27 July 2014 (UTC)}}
- @Kintetsubuffalo: I don't see how in any way MagentaGreen "berated" anybody in making the observation that using "please" in the posting of requests is more likely to engender a faster and more willing response to a request for assistance from the volunteer digital image restorers in this workshop. Quite the opposite. With respect, Kintetsubuffalo, I think you have way overreacted to MagentaGreen's comment which has nothing whatever to do with WPAGF, just simple good manners. On the other hand, it seems to me that to characterize MagentaGreen's comment as "trolling" in an edit summary, or "rants" on his talk page, and then collapsing this relevant discussion frankly is an issue of WPAGF. Centpacrr (talk) 13:48, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Over and above that, the reasoning for the collapsing (so called "trolling" would be present - see file history,) borders on defamation.
- So should we not treat each other. I hope we find back to a sound cooperation. MagentaGreen (talk) 14:05, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- In addition to the above, the fact that that user Kintetsubuffalo states on his userpage that he currently lives in Japan and also at the very top says that he is an Eagle Scout and huge booster of Scouting, both of which cultures place very high emphasis on the practice of politeness and good manners, and even has his "own talk page rules" on this topic, makes his attitude here all the more puzzling. I have fulfilled many of your requests in the past, Kintetsubuffalo, but if you would prefer I pass on any others you may post in the future I will honor your wishes and leave them to others. Please, however, avoid in the future gratuitously accusing other editors of "trolling", violating WPAGF, and collapsing relevant discussions (especially those with comments for three or more editors) without having very very good reason to do any of these as in their absence each of these actions are a violation of WPAGF themselves. Centpacrr (talk) 15:25, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

- It wasn't a demand. May seems like it if you want to read it as such. I think I was just being short and brief. The bolded request above should make it clear that it was a request even if is absent of any magical words. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 03:04, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
*Everyone* appears to have over-reacted at each stage of the discussion. Please let this thread die. (Hohum @) 17:26, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Defending another volunteer editor/digital image restorer (especially one who is new to this workshop) who has been gratuitously accused of "trolling", posting "rants", and violating WPAGF is not over-reacting, sir, especially when that editor was not remotely guilty of any of those things and the charges are being made by someone who only comes in here as a guest seeking our freely offered image restoration and adjustment assistance as opposed to ever providing it to others himself. Remember we are all volunteers, not employees, and so saying "please" and "thank you" is really not too much to expect as recompense from those who ask our help. Centpacrr (talk) 18:07, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Although I try to imagine the reasons which have led to this affront and I meanwhile have offered my constructive work to one of the parties (via email), I still have to keep myself against such generalization.
- I had and I have no intention to hurt anyone deliberately. However, I believe that my criticism is intrinsically justified and I am convinced that this can not be sweetened with a sauce of egalitarianism. This is my opinion, and I hope thereby not to provoke further hostility.
- But I also believe that this topic of discussion is needed and that this debate is more important than to edit an image as soon as possible. Regards, MagentaGreen (talk) 20:37, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Well put, MagentaGreen. Let's hope this discussion has some beneficial effect for both the Graphics Lab and the Wikipedia Project in general, or at the very least that MagentaGreen gets an appropriate apology in here from Kintetsubuffalo for the baseless charges ("trolling", "ranting", violating WPAGF) he made against him. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if that happens. Centpacrr (talk) 08:29, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Kintetsubuffalo: Added comment: Sir, if you are not willing to apologize and retract your charges, then at a minimum you owe the other graphists and requesters in this project -- and, for that matter, the Wikipedia Community at large -- a detailed explanation of exactly how you define these three unWikilike activities, and what specifically you claim MagentaGreen did that led you to so publicly accuse him of all three. With respect, as the accuser in this matter your silence on this is not really an option here. Centpacrr (talk) 19:27, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
This page is for graphic requests, please show some consideration and take this to the talk page. (Hohum @) 18:55, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- I think, this debate is thoughtful enough and it does not prevent anybody other inquiries to ask. Sure, it looks in the mean time as if the activity is somewhat paralyzed here. But if the project can be maintained only by general arbitrariness and non-committal, we can leave it in the whole. I also think that we have to withstand up to a certain degree, and please rest assured that I do not like this development and would like to undo it. MagentaGreen (talk) 19:41, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- I have tried to move this to the talk page twice (see its history) but both times I did there was some malfunction in the saving algorithm for the page that deleted large portions of earlier posts and I have not yet been able to figure out how to overcome it. However many similar discussions as this one regarding the operations of the project have developed and been carried on in "Graphist opinion(s)" sections for individual requests in the years that I have been one of the workshop's most active contributors and I see no reason why this one should not be completed here. The only thing really left is for Kintetsubuffalo to respond to the question addressed to him above. Hohum, you are, of course, free to add any comment you may have that is relevant to the issue if you care to, or, for that matter, to ignore it altogether and move on to other things. As MagentaGreen notes correctly above, "this debate is thoughtful enough and it does not prevent anybody other inquiries to ask." It also addresses a point that has needed to be discussed in here for a long time so is perfectly appropriate to allow it to finish here as this is where it developed. Centpacrr (talk) 22:49, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- This is doing nothing to help KAVEBEAR with his request, and he's already responded that he wasn't intending to be rude (nor did he seem to be, in my opinion). My refactoring (by collapsing) these comments (for which I was thanked, but also reverted) were to allow people to see that the request wasn't being addressed. Following wikipedia etiquette would be to go to the talk page to discuss how the page itself should work, including (ironically) etiquette. That would also attract the correct audience. Please reinstate the collapse tags and go there. AGF is wearing thin at the third time of asking. (Hohum @) 16:23, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
- As I explained above, Hohum, I attempted twice to move this discussion to Talk (see that page's history here) two days ago, but both times I did there was some malfunction in the saving algorithm for the page that deleted large portions of earlier posts that I have not yet been able to figure out how to overcome. However I also pointed out above that many similar discussions as this one regarding the operations of the workshop project have developed and been carried on in "Graphist opinion(s)" sections for individual requests in the years that I have been one of the workshop's most active contributors and I see no reason why this one should not be completed here. The original issue that Kintetsubuffalo commented on that I and MagentaGreen disagreed with him about was the value to the operation of the project of requesters using "please" and "thank you" when posting images in here to be worked on by the graphists. I have no real problem with this or any other editor expressing a view with which I disagree, although why this user (who lives in Japan and is an Eagle Scout, two cultures that place unusually high value in good manners and extreme politeness) objected to MagentaGreen's posting is still a puzzlement to me. However in this case I very much do have an issue with how he did it, i.e., accusing another user of "trolling", "ranting", and violating WPAGF when that user was not remotely guilty of any of these serious violations of WP etiquette and guidelines. In my view, making all three of these accusations are in and of themselves real violations of WPAGF by Kintetsubuffalo and as such needed to be promptly addressed here where they happened.
- I asked Kintetsubuffalo two days ago to respond to these issues in a question addressed to him above about why he made these charges against another editor. While so far that has only been met with silence, hopefully he will have the courtesy either apologize to the graphist he accused of misconduct or explain why he thinks he does not need to. As for completing the original request for altering this image, however, there is nothing whatever to prevent you, Hohum, from fulfilling his reguest yourself if you think this discussion is somehow preventing that. As a volunteer like all the rest of us, you are not, of course, in any way required to do that. If you chose not to, however, then your complaint that this discussion is interfering with the operation of the workshop, it seems to me, is also moot. In an abundance of caution, however, I have also added a note above this discussion stating that the request is still open in case anyone is confused as to its status. Centpacrr (talk) 19:04, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Kintetsubuffalo: By your continued silence I presume that you intend to neither apologize to MagentaGreen and the other participants in this workshop, nor to explain or justify why you inappropriately accused him of "trolling", "ranting", or violating WPAGF. We will thus conclude from your decision that you have no defense for having done so and this discussion is constructively closed unless Hohum cares to add a final comment on its merits. Centpacrr (talk) 13:35, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- I also believe that we do not need to wait longer for a response. Unfortunately there were except for one no other reactions - is this debate not important enough?
- There was no one who wanted to edit this request, therefore, I believe it is right, if I bring the matter to an end.
- It's Done - hopefully to the satisfaction of all. Regards, MagentaGreen (talk) 15:34, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

- Thank you so much, nagualdesign, the image came out better than I hoped for, you made the circles rounder and everything! I also don't know what the triangles signify, thank you for catching that!
