[edit]Lloyd Center mall
[edit]There is an inaccuracy in the Lloyd Center Mall entry. It states that the Max stop one block away from the mall is in the Free Rail Zone. The Free Rail Zone became a memory on 1 September, 2012 when Tri-Met abolished it for financial reasons. The Free Rail Zone was preceded by Fareless Square, which was instituted in 1975 by downtown Portland businesses to help shoppers travel from store to store downtown on busses without having to pay a fare. When the first Max line (Metropolitan Area Express, the light rail line) opened in 1986, all stops within the Fareless Square were considered part of Fareless Square. It was expanded to include the Rose Quarter area in 1995, when the Rose Garden Arena was built close to the Memorial Coliseum, and the Lloyd Center area. In 2010, Tri-Met changed its policy to make only riding on Max trains free in the former Fareless Square and changing the name to the Free Rail Zone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.105.145.42 (talk) 00:03, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, why don't you edit the page to resolve the inaccuracy? The page is not protected. Revolution1221 (talk) 02:19, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

how to add a picture from Hebrew Wikipedia to the English Version?
[edit]I want to add the picture of Moshe Nissim from the Hebrew Wikipedia site to the English version. How do i do that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ymcebs (talk • contribs) 01:26, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- The best way to do this is to transfer the picture to Wikimedia Commons (http://commons.wikimedia.org) which allows EVERY Wikimedia website to use that picture. Near as I can tell, that could be done because it appears that the picture is properly licensed for use at commons. I don't read Hebrew, but the licensing tag looks to be correct based on the icons I can read. Wikipedia:Moving files to the Commons contains instructions for moving files from English Wikipedia to Commons, I think the same procedures could be used for any Wikipedia. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Moving_to_Commons is a set of similar instructions from Commons. You can also ask for help at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Help_desk and someone will come along to help you perform the transfer. Once the picture has been transferred to commons, you can use it on ANY Wikimedia site. --Jayron32 01:33, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- The photo File:Moshe Nissim Portrait 2007.JPG is now available from the Commons. Jusses2 (talk) 05:14, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
Phyllis Calvert.
[edit]I am watching a film called The Battle of the Villa Fiorita and Phyllis Calvert, from what I can work out by looking at the actors in the film, is playing the part of a roughly 10-11 year old girl. BUT she (Phyllis Calvert) was born in 1915 and could not possibly, in 1965, be playing the part of Margot a 10-11 year old child. Could you please look into it. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.187.254.78 (talk) 05:20, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Phyllis Calvert and The Battle of the Villa Fiorita are links to the articles. Margot was played by Phyllis Calvert according to our articles. There is a Margot and a Moira in the movie according to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058949/ and Maureen O'Hara played Moira. There may be a glitch somewhere.--Canoe1967 (talk) 05:43, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
Account unused and with forgotten pass/email combination
[edit]Hi am user:Kaiden at Wikimedia Commons and I would like my age-old userpage to be deleted and my talkpage wiped for personal identification reasons. I have forgotten my password and email combination and found no other way from actually wiping the information from my account. If any amazing admin could help me with this please that would be amazing. Thank you. -- [details removed] 07:46, 30 March 2013 (UTC) a.k.a. Kaiden
- Since you are a registered user you should be logged in when you make requests and please don't post your IP address at this page. This is a very public page. The revision has been suppressed to protect your privacy. You should ask to delete your user page at Commons, not here at English Wikipedia. Anyways, I have requested a deletion at commons. --Ushau97 talk 08:50, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Changing page title "User:Stargaze!1/sandbox" to "Shweta Wahi"
[edit]The article is about Shweta Wahi, the designer. It was hastily created by a user a long time back and the page title is random and irrelevant. Using the person's name would be appropriate. I'm not autoconfirmed, so I cannot make the change. Can a kind moderator please make this change for me? It's very important to the person and brand this page covers. I'd really appreciate it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krisdan91 (talk • contribs) 08:24, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Done I have moved/renamed the page for now. But I don't think the article meets WP:GNG. It might deleted very soon. I'll take it to AfD. --Ushau97 talk 08:37, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- As a newly registered user, i will be doing considerable updates on the page. Please give me some time to add all the legitimate coverage the person has received. It will meet the guidelines once i've added in all the references and updates over the past 4 years. Please let me know if that's fine.
- I'm really sorry but there is nothing you can do on someone's notability. The subject of the article does not meet WP:BIO and a user has already commented that the page should be speedily deleted at the AfD entry. You could read WP:N to know more about Wikipedia's inclusion criteria. --Ushau97 talk 08:54, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- That's okay. Can you please delete the page then? I wouldn't want the notice to affect brand perception in any way. I'll definitely take a look at the criteria. Thank you so much! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krisdan91 (talk • contribs) 09:00, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- The draft can be moved to your sandbox where you can work on it without having to worry about deletion. Once you have edited it into an acceptable shape it can be "published" in the mainspace. The move to mainspace was clearly premature. Roger (talk) 09:07, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

- I can't delete the page since I'm not an admin, but I have requested speedy deletion. An admin will shortly review the request and if he/she thinks the article should be deleted, it will be done. --Ushau97 talk 09:05, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- As you can see for yourself, the Shweta Wahi page have already been deleted. --Ushau97 talk 09:07, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- @Ushau79, you should never have moved it into mainspace in the first place. It was obviously not in an acceptable shape yet. You should have moved it to Krisdan91's sandbox. If you know a draft does not meet GNG then moving it to mainspace can be seen to be a bad faith act. Your move and the subsequent Speedy effectively thwarted Krisdan91's stated intention to work on the draft to bring it up to standard. Roger (talk) 09:19, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- I guess I should not have moved the page. Anyways since the article does not meet GNG right now, userfying the page will not do much. Notability is not something which changes immediately. --Ushau97 talk 09:26, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
I have undeleted and userfied the article. It's now located at User:Krisdan91/Shweta Wahi. Regards, James086Talk 09:36, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

My edit won't show?
[edit]I edited on Martin (name) Why doesn't my edit show up on this page, Martin (name)? (Under born after 1950) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Estrella (talk • contribs) 10:52, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- This is what changed diff. You just added a space in front of the heading "Born after 1950". I assume you wanted to add the information:
* [ [ Danika Martin ] ] (drummer, backup singer,lyricist) (born 1956), American drummer, former bandmate and ex-girlfriend of American band leader Billy Ray Martin with (Impatient) Youth)
- What you actually did was enter that information into the edit summary box (the thin one below the normal edit box). However, Danika Martin doesn't have an article on Wikipedia, and that list is for people who do have articles. Also, take a look at our conflict of interest guideline if you intend to write about yourself. Thanks, James086Talk 10:59, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
Referencing help needed
[edit]I've written an article that's ready in every way, but Wikipedia's referencing process is difficult to understand and implement. I don't think I have any of the toolbar dropdowns that would enable or facilitate it; I have WordPerfect X6. If anyone is familiar with it, and it has such capabilities, please let me know.
Many thanks in advance!
LeslieFilmian (talk) 11:29, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- The toolbar dropdowns? I don't think there are any Wikipedia tutorials on how to edit in another program and then move the article to Wikipedia. (someone, correct me if I'm wrong) Perhaps WP:Referencing for beginners would be the most beneficial for you right now. Dismas|(talk) 14:42, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- It might be easier if we could see what you're writing, so that we could implement a few things as examples. Why don't you put the page online? If you create it at User:Filmian/Sandbox, it won't get deleted, people won't change it except to give you examples, and when you think it's ready, it can be moved to the spot where it should exist permanently. Nyttend (talk) 15:39, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I'd love to! But it's a 6-page article. It would take me forever to retype it, word for word. And when I copy and paste it -- as I did many weeks ago -- the references (footnotes) don't copy with it, making it look like there aren't any. And we're back to square 1. :-(
Filmian (talk) 16:33, 30 March 2013 (UTC)Filmian
- I don't have a copy of Wordperfect, so what follows is 100% guesswork. But here are two ideas you could try.
- See if there is a "Save as" or "Export" option in Wordperfect that mentions "MediaWiki", which is the name of the software that Wikipedia uses. If there is, save the result into User:Filmian/Sandbox so that we can see how much of the formatting has been carried over.
- Failing that, save from Wordperfect in HTML format (I assume it can do this), then try to convert it using the instructions at Help:WordToWiki#Quick and Dirty. Again, post the result at User:Filmian/Sandbox.
Hi, John. Thanks so much, but WordPerfect offers neither of those options -- although it offers dozens of others. :-( — Preceding unsigned comment added by Filmian (talk • contribs) 18:09, 30 March 2013 (UTC) Filmian (talk) 18:11, 30 March 2013 (UTC)Leslie
- I've just tried my first suggestion with a Word document containing a footnote, and the result was useless. I'm out of ideas, so I'll post a summary of your problem at Village pump (technical) to see if anyone there can help. -- John of Reading (talk) 18:33, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- If you can't export it (and I don't understand why not, albeit a few bits of formatting code will need inserting) then you are going to have to retype it at some time, so it is probably better sooner than later. I can understand why referencing is difficult when you are trying to use WP formatting in totally different software - as you can't check it, so you don't know whether what you are doing is right or wrong. I think John's suggestion of using your own sandbox is a good one. Arjayay (talk) 18:45, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'm downloading a 30-day free trial (45 minute DL)... I'll write up a document on how to export and see what I can do with it... — User:Technical 13 ( C • M • Click to learn how to view this signature as intended ) 18:59, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, so I've got it downloaded, and see a couple "Save as" options that might work. What would be great for me (since I've no clue how to use the finer points of the software such as automating references), is if someone could send me a basic file to my email (Technical_13@Yahoo•com) with references included, I'll see which "save as" option will work. — User:Technical 13 ( C • M • Click to learn how to view this signature as intended ) 20:33, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, so I got the file. Looks like that program calls it "Publish to" and then you cam pick HTML or XML... Trying to convert the HTML to wikitext now... — User:Technical 13 ( C • M • Click to learn how to view this signature as intended ) 23:47, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- A working copy of your file is available on Richard_France/sandbox. I'll take some time tomorrow to clean it up. I decided it should go in a sandbox for that person since there was already a page by that name there. However, it is bed time for me. Looks like not the whole thing is there though... I may have to experiment some more... — User:Technical 13 ( C • M • Click to learn how to view this signature as intended ) 23:55, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- You can't create a sandbox in the mainspace - it's been deleted as a test page. I hope you have another copy. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:54, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
Saw that... No problem... I still have it... However, no time to do anything now... Off to Easter dinner at the in-laws. I'll put it on the OPs User: on Monday as a {{Userspace draft}}. — User:Technical 13 ( C • M • Click to learn how to view this signature as intended ) 12:32, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

I've misunderstood an infobox
[edit]I've just added coords to the {{Infobox building}} at Potter Stewart United States Courthouse, but they don't appear anywhere, even though I added them in what I thought to be conformance with the instructions given by the template's documentation. What did I do wrongly? Nyttend (talk) 14:14, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- It appears that latitude and longitude must not be present at all if latd and longd are used instead.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 15:00, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- This is a little strange. I think most template users expect having a parameter with an empty value to have the same effect as not having the parameter at all. Most articles that transclude templates with a large number of params (e.g. Infoboxes) tend to have lots of these no-value parameters because a blank set of params was copied from the template's doc page to begin with. Was there a change in the way this works recently? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 05:00, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- No, it's the way Template:Infobox building is coded. It contains
{{{latitude|{{{latd|}}}}}}
. Iflatitude
is set to empty then the code evaluates to empty instead oflatd
. See Help:Template#Handling parameters for how it can be changed. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:36, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Main text column width
[edit]I'm a little surprised there isn't a standard column width for the main text on Wikipedia, like there is on most other webpages. Reading articles on a widescreen is tiresome because of this. Any chance for a change, or at least a user setting? Merchant banker (talk) 14:45, 30 March 2013 (UTC) Merchant banker
- I've played with my personal css page for about half an hour and found a solution for this. Add this code to your personal css page.
#mw-content-text {width:90% !important;}
. You can change the width to your own personal preference. Actually after changing, the appearance is horrible. I will try to find a better one. --Ushau97 talk 17:24, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks a bunch! 60% seemed to do it for me, but I agree table-heavy pages look a little odd. Anyway, much happier now. Cheers! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Merchant banker (talk • contribs) 17:31, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for sharing the tip! However, it doesn't allow wide tables to expand to the right, as it happens without the code when a table is wider than the browser window. Is there wa way to solve that? Thanks! --NaBUru38 (talk) 22:18, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- I've found this:
div#bodyContent { width: 750px; line-height: 150%; }
- I haven't compared the two yet. It seems that the latter will actually display wide tables with lots of columns which are impossible to render otherwise (like this), but won't expand tables with long texts: it breaks the texts in several lines. However, it takes all the space it needs, so it doesn't shrink unnecessarily as long as it's within the width.
- Notice that I wrote "750px" instead of "90%". That's because I want actual fixed width, but the relative code works too (although not as I like). I'll test a bit more. Have fun! --NaBUru38 (talk) 22:37, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- It seems that the alternative text I proposed also compacts some things other than the page body (semi-protected icons, categories box, coordinates). Now I'll try to center the whole thing. Bye! --NaBUru38 (talk) 22:49, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- I found it!
#mw-content-text {width:750px margin: 0 auto; !important;}
(or 90%, or whatever size you wish). The top and left bar stay the same, so the left margin is between the content and the left bar. Also, when the table is too wide (like this), the table again expands to the left, but not to the right (the opposite would be strange). I'll try it for a few hours. Have fun and good luck! --NaBUru38 (talk) 23:34, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- I found it!
- Oh, it seems that the Vector skin has a little issue that prevents us to fix the page width. I've posted a question on MediaWiki. Bye! --NaBUru38 (talk) 00:20, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
Merging a page
[edit]Will someone please explain how to merge Spanish viceroyalty into Viceroyalties of the Spanish Empire? I know there are instructions for merging pages in Help:Merging, but when I tried it, it failed (probably because one of the pages was a redirect). Even better yet, will someone please go ahead and merge them for me? I would really appreciate that. Thank you King Philip V of Spain (talk) 14:55, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
