[edit]Searching Multiple Archives for a String
[edit]If I want to search the multiple archive pages of a particular Wikipedia project page for a particular topic (that is, for the name of the topic) that I know has been discussed in the past, is there a simple way to limit the search to multiple archives of a particular project? In this case, the project is WP:Dispute Resolution Noticeboard, and I want to search for a topic that I know has been the subject of disputes in the past, but don't want to wade through the large numbers of archives. Is there a simple way to qualify the Wikipedia Search for this purpose? Robert McClenon (talk) 01:18, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- WP:Dispute Resolution Noticeboard has a search box for the archives above the table of contents so just enter the string there. It works by adding
prefix:Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/
to the search. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:25, 30 April 2016 (UTC)- Thank you, User:PrimeHunter. I found what I wanted. That doesn't resolve the dispute, of course, but some disputes recur over and over for months or years. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:53, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
A redirect deletion discussion that needs to be renewed/repeated or speedied
[edit]Regarding the deletion discussion "9-24" here.
It is over a year old. It was a non-admin closure. One of the !votes says it all: "But it appears to be useful at least for the fleeting moment." That fleeting moment has now passed. Another !voter commented "Years from now, if not months, someone is going to come across this redirect again and bring it to RfD, and everyone is going to think it was ridiculous that this happened based on something as fleeting as a weird accent in a radio ad."
9-24 is a redirect to Non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder because, in a radio commercial campaign in the USA over two years ago, the expression "non-24" sounded like "9-24". The commercials were addressed to the blind, so I would suppose that the redirect was created for their sake. The commercials were a Vanda Pharmaceuticals promotion of their drug Tasimelteon, brand name Hetlioz, then newly approved (in January 2014) by the FDA for use by totally blind people suffering from Non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder.
The redirect is annoying or confusing when one visits the Non-24 article, as there is no mention of "9-24" in the article (as recently noted on the talk page).
There is no closing admin to turn to. There shouldn't be much to discuss anymore. Can this redirect (9-24) be speedily deleted or must there be new discussion?
I have no experience with deletion discussions or speedy deletions. I'd love for someone else to take care of this, if possible. Thanks, Hordaland (talk) 04:24, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- I've gone andnominated at RFD; the discussion is at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2016 April 30#9-24. Graham87 10:50, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
Non-verifiable information.
[edit]I'm trying to add information about the Team who make Exhumed/Powerslave game for PC, Saturn and PlayStation. I don't understand why you say my information isn't verifiable. I have all 3 versions of this game & all the Team Members I have mentioned are in the Game Credits. I don't know how much more verifiable that can be. This game really rates a mention. It was ahead of its time and is still my favourite game.Jarragum (talk) 07:49, 30 April 2016 (UTC) Jarragum.
- To be included the people need to be notable. That is, they have a Wikipedia article about them, or have been mentioned in a reliable source. When you add a name with internal links and they turn red and not blue, they do not have a Wikipedia article about them and so should not be added. You can see this when the article is previewed. David.moreno72 (talk) 07:57, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- Well, it's not that they can't be linked at all. According to WP:REDLINK, it's okay to link names but by doing so you are basically saying that the person is likely notable enough for an article of their own but one doesn't currently exist. For most people in game credits, this will not be the case. If they aren't going to have an article, they probably shouldn't be mentioned. Some exclusions apply, of course, such as a person who voices the main character of a game but has not done anything that would make them notable enough for an article. In that case, I would list the name but not link it. Dismas|(talk) 14:20, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
Making a wiki about myself - proposed for being deleted?
[edit]Hi
Need a bit of help here - Wrote a few lines about myself and my work here on wiki - mostly as a resume reference - but now it's been proposed for being deleted.
How do I fix this since it basically only contains facts about myself? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Checkpointsweden (talk • contribs) 10:04, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not a resume-hosting site. Articles are only for subjects for which you can find multiple, professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources which are independent of the subject but still specifically about it. Wikipedia is not the place to promote your career, either. You should not make or edit articles about yourself. Ian.thomson (talk) 10:22, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) :Unfortunately Wikipedia does not exist for persons to create an autobiography about themselves. Subjects of BLPs (biographies of living persons) have to pass Wiki's fairly stringent rules on notability (see WP:Notability) and are created by editors without a close association to the subject using third-party independent reliable sources (see WP:RS). As such the page you have created cannot be included on Wikipedia at the present time. If your career is successful, a page would likely be created in time. Eagleash (talk) 10:27, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- A good rule of thumb is if the person is affecting many other peoples life or have done something that does. So this would qualify say Einstein, he wasn't a politician nor did were he working at the Manhattan project. Another example is that of Paul Dirac which by himself were perhaps just a university employee, but he also figured out the Dirac equation that is of importance in physics, which affects people. - There are too many surviving WW2 veterans from Canada for Wikipedia to list them all; that's not the kind of thing we do here. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:20, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- Think the OP may be referring to List_of_surviving_veterans_of_World_War_II#S. Whether he is notable in the encyclopedic sense (despite risking his life for our freedom) is another question. Here is his photo: [1] --Aspro (talk) 16:52, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
List of Essential Mix episodes
[edit]I am trying to clean up the List of Essential Mix episodes article to remove massive amounts of spam links. Other editors keep adding spam links into the article, repeatedly, after I remove them, and so it's difficult to make any progress in the cleanup. I've already asked this question here about a month ago or more, but didn't get any help. I'm considering deleting the article if I can't get help with this, but that's not the ideal outcome I'd like. What is the best way to get help with this? Can someone protect the article for me? Teh (talk • contributions) 16:38, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- Ugg, that page is messy. I've cleaned out as much as I can, as well as am doing some table fixes. Should the Mixes column for some of the tables even be there? I'm not sure they should, and I might remove them if they all turn out to 404 me. -- The Voidwalker Discuss 17:38, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply and help. None of the external links should be in this article at all. They aren't official links and most of them are spam. I think that any work we do to remove them, will not be helpful at this time, since other non-registered users will add them back in quite quickly. How can I get this page protected? Teh (talk • contributions) 17:44, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- You can request page protection at WP:RFPP, (and yes, it would be a very good idea). -- The Voidwalker Discuss 17:46, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) x3 Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention, Account9000. I've requested the page to be protected. @The Voidwalker: The 'mixes' links are all copyvio spam and should be removed. I'm looking for a suitable regex to clean it up. - NQ (talk) 17:47, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- @NQ: I got the mixes columns, but there are a few other ones that need removal that do not have a column. -- The Voidwalker Discuss 17:50, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Referencing errors on Eurovision Song Contest's Greatest Hits
[edit]Reference help requested. Hello there, I am new to Wiki and struggling to amend an entry 'Eurovision's Greatest Hits' where I would like to add the Senior Producer credit. Although this is appearing in the edit page it is not being displayed. Can you help please? Thanks, Caroladana (talk) 16:39, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
Referencing errors on Microphone
[edit]Reference help requested. All three URLs I've added seem to point where they should. But I'm pretty new to Wikipedia editing - my skill is in microphones and things round them - so perhaps I'm looking at the wrong thing.

Thanks, Wikichriswoolf (talk) 17:06, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- I don't see any reference errors; however, if you would like to fill out the
|last=<author's last name>|first=<Author's first name>|date=<date the material was published>|website=<website associated with the publication>|publisher=<the publisher>|access-date=<date you first used the material in the article>
with their proper information for all the references you added, that would be useful. Since you are using the visual editor, and may not understand what I am talking about with the |last= stuff, you can simply click on each reference as they appear in the visual editor, and select edit. The parameters above will be there for you to fill out in an easy to understand format. -- The Voidwalker Discuss 17:23, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

- To find another editor's talk-page, type 'user talk:their user name' into the search box at top right and select from the drop down. Or if you are at a page they have edited, go to the history and click on talk next to their name. Eagleash (talk) 19:55, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- @James Duggins: There is no user called "Anonymous something" or "Anonymous". There are thousands of usernames starting with "Anonymous". If you say the precise username or where you encountered the user then we can help more. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:47, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- Perhaps he means the editor User:Anonymous Dissident? Intelligentsium 02:12, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
- Maybe. Special:Contributions/Anonymous Dissident shows no edits since 2013 but it might be about an old edit. I'm not exaggerating about the number of usernames starting with "Anonymous" so there are lots of possibilities. Anonymous Dissident may have more edits than any of the others. More information about Florida history
[edit]Few people realize that Florida was the Pineapple Producing capitol of the world for many years before hawaii even grew them. Forward to the Author and have him check out jensen Beach, hutchinson Island, martin and St.Lucie County. The history and amount of plantations located in Florida was incredible and quite interesting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.167.33.81 (talk) 22:06, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- Presumably you have information which you feel could go into an article about Florida (or perhaps one about pineapple farming?). You are quite at liberty to add information to any Wikipedia article as long as you can verify it. See WP:RS for more information on that and WP:REFB for how to add references. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 22:10, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- We have five million articles and tens of thousands of editors. Jensen Beach, Florida says: By 1895, Jensen was called the “Pineapple Capital of the World,” shipping over one million boxes of pineapples each year during the June and July season. My Google searches support that the term was used specifically about Jensen Beach and not Florida in general. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:33, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
