Getting started

[edit]
Sorry - there is no advice guide for high energy physics editing. Here is a short guide to editing chemistry articles. No offense! It is not the same, but some of it applies also to any science.

Advice for editing

[edit]
  • The rule for editing Wikipedia is that any statement added should be followed by a citation to the source from which it came. The format to repeat is "sentence-citation, sentence-citation", so even heavier use of citations than academic publishing. All content needs a citation because any of it might be rearranged.
  • Because reliable information is the building block of Wikipedia, many times it is useful to start with a reliable source of information to cite and not necessarily a Wikipedia article. Collect any source - an academic paper, a book, or whatever else seems reputable - and identify an interesting fact in that source. Once you have a fact and a citation, then browse Wikipedia for a place to insert your information.
  • Wikipedia is built in small steps in this way. All submitted content and edits are reviewed.
