Wikipedia outreach
[edit]Wikipedia communities in many cities internationally routinely organize or present at meetups, events, conferences, lectures, and training sessions. This New York City chapter of the Wikimedia community supports outreach of this sort in regular public meetings around New York City.
Please see the event archive for a list of past events and an explanation of how these work.
Institutional partnerships
[edit]Wikipedia is absolutely unique in that it's a nonprofit operating in the space of multibillion-dollar brands.
Andrew Lih, quoted in The Washington Post, 2015
Wikipedia is the most consulted source of information on almost every topic. Among the top 500 most popular websites, it is one of only two managed by a nonprofit organization.
Any institution or organization which seeks to distribute information to the general public should recognize Wikipedia's place in information distribution and consider the extent to which sharing information through Wikipedia would be useful to advance goals for providing information.
Please see Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Partners for a description of partnerships and institutional collaborations between the Wikimedia community and this local chapter in New York.
