I've listed this article for peer review because the article is too long and cluterred with extra information, with other editors suggesting to add back information to the article that is off topic, turning the article into something else.
Thanks, TheHotwiki (talk) 03:07, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
- Perhaps the page could be split into different ones for certain long sections. It would allow users to add extra information they believe is necessary but it wouldn't make navigation impossible. — MonkeyStolen234 (talk) 14:11, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
- I have included a list of teams/groups on the talk page that could be incorporated into either a new article, expanding the footer template "Secondary Teams" section, or restoring a Secondary/ancillary teams section of the list of members page.
Please do not omit the majority of the X-Men franchise based on the rationale you provided. Tomahawk1221 (talk) 22:00, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- The page is about list of X-Men members, not the entire franchise. Is it that hard to stay on topic? There's already a suggestion to keep things separated and you are still insisting to include extra stuff that aren't about members.TheHotwiki (talk) 07:04, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
Requesting DeadpoolRP's input here. This is a hijacking. Not going to bicker with the likes of hotwiki and that authoritative attitude. This will be a consensus as delineated by wikipedia rules.. Tomahawk1221 (talk) 20:42, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- Stop Wikipedia:Meat puppetry and Wikipedia:Canvassing, I can report you for this behavior, pinging certain editors to sway this discussion into your way. Thats illegal.TheHotwiki (talk) 22:20, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
This article appears to be stable for the past few weeks so I am going to take a stab at peer reviewing it. I have created a handful of featured lists, and while I do not know much about the x-men in particular, I do know what makes for a good list article. below please find my thoughts:
- First of all this article does not do a very good job at explaining what it is about. I, as some one unfamiliar with the X-Men, should be able to read the lead section and learn exactly what the X-men are, generally who is included in this list, and why they are included. I think the big issue between the editors is that this has not been clearly defined so no one knows if adding or subtracting characters makes sense. Based upon the title of the article I would, as a reader, assume this is for characters who are considered "X-Men," not necessarily every character in the franchise. This should be clearly spelt out though so readers understand what they are looking at. Check out Wikipedia:Lead to learn more about how to craft a good lead section.
- The image at the top of the article, while compelling, is not very helpful in its current state. Since it is a non-free use image it has to be small and therefor we can not see many of the details of all the characters. The caption also doesn't explain who any of these characters are, and you are missing alt text so blind visitors can't understand what the image is of. I might suggest switching out this image with a larger image of maybe the writer of the original comics or another more illustrative image that gives us information about the franchise as a whole, not just individual characters.
- The biggest issue with the article is that there are zero citations. I, as a reader, can not trust anything in this article with out citations. Each character needs to be sourced to a reliable, third party source proving they are actually in the book stated they are in. without this change this article is in danger of begin deleted.
- There are far too many sections and it is unclear why the divisions are where they are. it may be helpful to combine these separate lists into larger lists with a new column for which series they are from. also, linking in section headings is not ideal per Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Section headings. Each section should have its own small lead explaining why this section of X-Men is different from the ones in the other lists
- Consider making the tables sortable and removing the "19XX's recruits" horizontal rows. The main purpose of a list is to make it easy for people to find what they are looking for and right now if someone knows that, say, Firestar is an X-Man but wants to know more about them, there is no way for them to sort alphabetically to find the character easily. They must manually search the entire article until they find them. Also, since characters appear in multiple places in this list just finding the character once on the page doesn't give them all the information they are looking for. Try to fix this by combining smaller lists so that characters only appear once throughout the page.
- I know there are X-Men movies and TV shows, but no where in this list does it explain if the characters in the films and episodes are the same as the ones in the comics. Perhaps splitting things up by media is more valuable than by individual comic franchise, which can just be a separate column as stated above.
- You have 4 links that just bring the reader back to this page. Barnell Bohusk, Wicked (comics), Taki Matsuya, and Transonic (comics).
Hope this helps!--Found5dollar (talk) 15:00, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
