Wikipedia:RedWarn/Blacklist/docs
The RedWarn team is currently in the process of renaming to Ultraviolet. Some documentation pages are still in the process of being written/transferred. Read the announcement here. |
To prevent confusion, you should ALWAYS notify users before blacklisting them. Nothing is stopping them from moving on to another semi-automated tool. |

This page is for the use of administrators to prohibit a user from accessing the RedWarn tool. While there is no fixed criteria for blacklisting a user, it's advisable that you warn a user about their misuse before blacklisting them to prevent confusion.
You may also want to take the following documented discouraged behaviours into account (see WP:REDWARN/A):
- Misusing the alert on change option to violate WP:OWN or WP:EW. You can spot this if a user with RedWarn enabled reverts an edit near immediately after it has been published.
- Misusing the multiple action tool or the
rw.multiAct
API to violate Wikipedia's bot policy. - Consistently misusing UW templates or a single incorrect quick rollback reason
- Overuse of a single quick rollback reason which may discourage newer editors
- Bypassing any permission level restriction (i.e. using RedWarn before autoconfirmed, or using restricted features, such as the multiple-action tool, before becoming extended-confirmed) - please note that in these cases, if a user can bypass the permission restrictions, they can likely bypass the blacklist too, so a block may be advisable instead of blacklisting.
What does this do?
[edit]Upon RedWarn detecting that this file contains the logged in user, all of RedWarn's core APIs will be wiped without notification. This means that while RedWarn's controls may still appear, they won't work and the user won't be able to use RedWarn with immediate effect (given the usual caching).
How do I blacklist a user?
[edit]Edit Wikipedia:RedWarn/Blacklist and append text in this format to the end of the list:
* {{user|Username}} - Reason for blacklisting, you can place diffs here too if you wish. ~~~~
VERY IMPORTANT: RedWarn only checks if {{user|Username}}
is present on this page. If you use the {{user}} template anywhere on the page, they will be blacklisted.
I've been blacklisted, how do I appeal?
[edit]You can find the signature of the admin who blacklisted you appended to your blacklist entry. Your best bet is to go to their talk page, otherwise, you should go to WP:AN and request another administrator to unblacklist you.
