Wikipedia:WikiProject Buses/UK bus route quality drive
This page is currently inactive and is retained for historical reference. Either the page is no longer relevant or consensus on its purpose has become unclear. To revive discussion, seek broader input via a forum such as the village pump. |
(Note: I have based this page on WP:UKBQDRIVE, hence very similar wording!)
Welcome to the UK bus route quality drive homepage. The drive is a one off editor collaboration of Wikipedia:WikiProject buses, with the aim of bringing all United Kingdom bus route articles and lists up to a common standard. (See Category:Bus routes in England).
Any interested editor is welcome to participate in the drive. To assist the drive, editors are requested that any edits made pursuant to this drive should be made with an edit summary that contains the shortcut WP:UKBRQDRIVE, which directs editors here.
Discussion on the points listed below is encouraged on the talk page, at the time of writing this list was created by a single editor, so further input is very welcome! At this point it is probably advisable to avoid London Bus route articles pending further discussion.

Goals
[edit]The drive aims to improve the selected articles with respect to the following policies and guidelines that are specifically relevant to UK bus route articles:
- Verifiability
- Corporations
- Not a travel guide
- Not a collection of trivia
- Not an advertising space
- Use of Images
The bus operator drive linked to Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Transport/Bus articles for background discussion, many of the issues will also apply to bus route articles.
Instructions
[edit]To participate in the drive, after adding your name to the participant list, you simply choose an article in the status table that has not been examined (it should have an empty row), then, as described in detail in sub-section below, do the following:
- Record in the status table a size assessment
- Make any required additions
- Make any required removals
- Work with the images on the article
- Note any issues and future tasks in the status table that can be addressed later (if not fixed there and then)
- Note any unusual things requiring attention
- Possibly redirect the article if it does not meet the appropriate criteria
For the avoidance of re-work, it is intended the drive is completed on a one time article by article basis. Therefore, please complete all tasks for an article at once, and note any tasks that could not be completed under the miscellaneous issues section.
What qualifies as a route notable for an article?
[edit]It is encouraged that you edit and expand these points as appropriate, it is not intended to be a final list.
- Routes with a significant history, obviously that can be interpreted in various ways, but a bit of common sense would help here.
- Major arterial routes from the major cities in the area, with a high frequency, for example every 10 minutes or higher.
What should be included in an article?
[edit]- An infobox as appropriate
- A short lead giving basic information about the route
- A history section, detailing past operators and significant route changes
- A present section
- Other sections may be required as appropriate, but ensure they are encyclopaedic.
What should not be included in an article?
[edit]- Frequency information
- Fare information
Routes which may require further discussion
[edit]Add below any route articles which may qualify for a redirect, but may be controversial, and then start a discussion on the appropriate talk page.
Note issues and future tasks
[edit]Record in the status table the following issues and tasks needing follow up action (add yes, no or n/a in the appropriate column):
