Description
[edit]This WikiProject, if created will govern and develop Wikipedia articles concerned with mobile Application Software, or in short, called Apps. Now, the reason why such a project is necessary is because these articles do not have a common project to fall under and get divided under various other WikiProjects. Apps have become extremely popular among the masses and this has evidently resulted in the a large number of pages being created on them.
What this Project would do (like every other project) is create templates, infoboxes, assess articles, monitor the development of such articles. But, unlike many other WikiProjects, it has very recreational project and since almost everyone is now familiar or has come across the subject matter of the project, no one would find it odd to join the project. There is also a great scope for growth because of the massive number of Apps that exist and continue to be created. A Manual of Style especially for Apps can also be developed under this project.
All in all, WikiProject Apps has a great potential and could be fairly or massively successful depending on the participation of fellow Wikipedians. The Wikimon (talk) 09:55, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- There are many similar groups which these articles could easily fall into. But, with the degree of differentiation that Apps now come with, it would only be fair to align all of them under this project. Governance of these pages would also be highly simplified. The Wikiprojects mentioned above have their plates full with many articles and are unable to cater to Apps, per se. This project would only help take that burden of the shoulders of other projects.

- I fully agree with this proposal. From what I've come across on Articles for Creation, such a Project could really make a difference. A MOS for Apps would especially be in order, as well as infoboxes and notability criteria. Cheers, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 18:13, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]Hi guys! Thanks a lot.. So for the question asked: click on the link at the start which is about the mobile application software. It will take you straight to the page which explains what an App is all about... Basically it's those gadgets, games, support and recreational additions that you find on mobile devices. Simpler than that: Temple Run is an App... The Wikimon (talk) 16:35, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for the advice. I actually just meant it as a joke. I still use a rotary phone...with a VERY long cord! B7
- I'm puzzled on one point: How would an infobox for an app be any different from the standard template:infobox video game or template:infobox software (as applicable).
On a separate point, can the proposer show that there are any number of people who would be willing to help? A WikiProject is not an area but a group of people (as WhatAmIDoing likes to say so often), and I would be concerned that there would not be enough people to help with this. Maybe the group should work as a task force of WP:WikiProject Software instead of being free floating. --Izno (talk) 02:26, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Perhaps you're right about those infoboxes since all of these will fall under one of them. But that was my point. It could have some very different headings added, something only related to apps. And in my opinion, the apps would never really be well described on a Software infobox. But that's entirely my opinion, because I think we need a seperate project especially for apps, considering the number of them that exist.
- On your second point, true that it doesn't harness enough support. But after a task force is formed, would it be good to start the project after some time and no longer be a task force? Or would you recommend more people to come and support this proposal? Thanks a again for an excellent query. You really got me thinking! :-) The Wikimon (talk) 02:39, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Sigh ... OK . I got sucked into that one .. lol. How ya doin Buster?
- I think that this should be an independent WikiProject and not a task force because 1) there are plenty of app articles 2) there should be enough users to help, considering the amount of users that edit app articles and 3) most app articles don't truly fall under any other WikiProject scope. The Anonymouse (talk | contribs) 04:14, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Stole the words out of my mouth. Exactly my point. With so many articles and users editing them so regularly, a task force would be too small a unit to take care of all the articles. If you could, would you please get some people you know to support it? I see that you are on WP: Apple... And I wanted to know if I can join it as well...
