Description
[edit]Improving Wikipedia's coverage of the RISC OS computer operating system, and the organization of information and articles on this topic. This is a retrospective request to determine the status of the Project, which was created more than one year ago. Previous relevant discussions are at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject RISC OS#Project scope and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Computing/Archive 11#RISC OS coordination. Apologies again for not coming here at the time - it was all rather daunting back then. Thanks for reading. -- Trevj (talk) 11:18, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- This is a specialized topic area, per similar daughter projects/task forces existing in other areas of interest. Related to WikiProject Computing.

Discussion
[edit]- There's no requirement that new WikiProjects go through a formal proposal process; the mechanism is in place to assist editors uncertain of whether a WikiProject should be created, not to prevent them from doing so. So, from a procedural standpoint, a "retrospective" request isn't really necessary; if the project has been created and is active, then there's no real reason why it would need any sort of "approval".
More generally, though, I wonder if perhaps the number of articles specific to the OS itself might be too small to sustain a full WikiProject? Perhaps it would be better to combine all the individual OS-level projects as task forces of either WikiProject Computing or a new WikiProject Operating systems? - Very useful comments. Thanks for clarifying. The task force scenario is exactly the sort of thing which could do with tidying up. -- Trevj (talk) 11:59, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I've had a look at your project and am impressed with the initiative you've taken. I am concerned that the topic is too narrow to sustain the project in the long term. Making it a task force under WP:COMP would keep the project from every becoming an orphan. --Kvng (talk) 13:34, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- So, per Wikipedia talk:WikiProject RISC OS#Project scope, should the project be moved to Wikipedia:WikiProject Computing/RISC OS task force? Could it still be termed
WikiProject RISC OS
? How would this affect the article alerts and the cleanup listing[1]? -- Trevj (talk) 14:49, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]- I was about to list this at WP:AN/RFC but have posted at Talkback to Kvng instead. Maybe we should wait a while longer to see how things evolve. -- Trevj (talk) 08:36, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Thanks for contacting me. This page is still on my watchlist but I missed it. If you want to pursue this further, you should probably also list this at WP:RFC or wherever is most appropriate. There has not been a lot of discussion and what you do have is not fully supportive of your proposal. I'm not an expert in WikiProject systems. I modeled my suggestion above off Wikipedia:WikiProject Computing/Computer networking task force where I'm an active member. You would, at minimum, get the functionality you see there. More is probably possible. -—Kvng 16:22, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks. I've also notified Kirill Lokshin, and will list at WP:RFC (or other suggested avenue) in the future. Cheers. -- Trevj (talk) 07:20, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
