Wikipedia:WikiProject Railways/National Railway Museum editathon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Railways editathon

Wikimedia UK and National Railway Museum jointly organised an editathon focusing on Railways, kindly hosted by the National Railway Museum in York on 19 October 2013. The day included some article editing, a backstage pass tour of their library and archives. One of their curators joined us to answer questions.

The aim of the event was to improve the coverage of Wikipedia articles related to Railways and steam engines. Participants were free, however, to request info on other aspects of their collection. As well as subject expertise, the NRM were able to provide WiFi and a room for Wikimedians, and have very kindly agreed to donate refreshments.

  • Date: Saturday 19 October 2013, 10am–5pm
  • Venue: National Railway Museum, York.
  • Participants: All welcome! There was space for 20 people in total.
  • Cost: Free
  • Contacts: Any questions? Please contact Jonathan Cardy (WMUK)

Wishlist (archival)

What books, magazines and other literature would you like to have available on the day?

  • I was looking at The Royal York Hotel . Could this be easily improved? Will not some of the NERA volumes by Bill Fawcett have content? I know that the BTH file in The Forsythe collection has content which will help clarify ownership. The present Wiki article says nothing about British Transport Hotels ownership nor does it address how and when The Royal Station Hotel York became The Royal York Hotel. I would be happy to work on this. I think there is also a Station Hotels book: Carter, Oliver, An Illustrated History of British Railway Hotels: 1838-1983, Silver Link Publishing, ISBN 0-947971-36-X (1990). Could the museum have this and Bill Fawcett's volumes available? Otherwise I bring mine. Robertforsythe (talk) 10:37, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
