Saskatchewan Portal Creation Drive
  • Please comment about the formation of a new concept - a Saskatchewan Portal

Take a peek at the Canadian Portal. There are four provinces, BC, ON, PQ, and Nunavut. There are also four Canadian cities with portals of their own as well.

Portals are pages intended to serve as "Main Pages" for specific topics or areas. Portals may be associated with one or more WikiProjects; unlike WikiProjects, however, they are meant for both readers and editors of Wikipedia, and should promote content and encourage contribution.[1]

A unique concept by Portal India was to add a quiz as well India/Quiz

Portals introduce the Wikipedia reader to new developments by the wikiproject showing selected biographies, articles, pictures to feature periodically, and archive the previous suggestions. The portal may list information introducing the portal subject, categories, did you know, to do, other wikiprojects and news features as well.

Whereas Wikipedia:WikiProject Saskatchewan is an organization created to promote Saskatchewan usage and participation in Saskatchewan article editing and development.

  • The Academics and alumni articles have been created to assist the U of S article
  • Category sorting - more to do - ensure all articles are within a category/multiple categories.
    • Photographs on Wiki commons have been resorted into categories and subcategories.
  • Prepare a welcome/invitation template for recruiting potential members
  • Create new articles (e.g. Sports in Saskatchewan, Health in Saskatchewan)...
    • Sports in Saskatchewan is a newly created article, and is receiving help from afield to further the sections and edit copy.
  • Associate famous personalities to their home communities (e.g. Lorne Babiuk to Canora, Saskatchewan)...
    • As New articles are created check the wiki link at the bottom of the article title 'What Links Here. Here related articles and biographies are listed which should have reciprocal links or information upon the newly created main article page.
  • Geographical classification of Saskatchewan (consensus needed, e.g according to Weather Canada/Environment Canada)
    • Discussion is invited to help organize the areas of the Saskatchewan Wikiproject.

What's New?

Northern Saskatchewan Focus' For the northern areas of Saskatchewan these are newly created articles: Ajawaan Lake, Nistowiak Falls. There are major expansions made to Prince Albert National Park, Churchill River. These are primarily natural areas, landforms etc. If others have this interest, there is a lot to do such as obvious entries such as Lac La Ronge (and the provincial Saskatchewan parks ), and some of the famous lakes in the north, some named for explorers and fur traders. Saskatchewan Roads and Highways Red links to Saskatchewan roads

When looking through some Saskatchewan Highway articles (especially those containing intersection lists), you may notice that there are red links to potential Saskatchewan road articles (especially Range and Township Roads). However, many of these roads do not appear on the List of Saskatchewan provincial roads. If you happen to read over any highway articles, and you notice a red link to a road that does not appear on the provincial roads list, please add the road's name to the appropriate section on that list. Eventually, I believe that we will have a list of all known Saskatchewan rural roads. Thank you. Ultraflame | talk 01:35, 7 August 2007
