Wheelchair rugby

While I'm working my way through the Paralympians I have noticed that the few wheelchair rugby players we have, are split between Rugby-bio-stub, Rugbyunion-bio-stub and rugbyleague-bio-stub I suggest a {{Wheelchairrugby-bio-stub}} upmerged to Category:Rugby biography stubs till it reaches 60 just to avoid confusion as to where the articles belong. Waacstats (talk) 16:23, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- After checking Category:Rugby biography stubs out and properly sorting a few of its members, all but one remaining article is for wheelchair rugby. Personally I don't think the category should exist at all, for two distinct sports grouped because of a common name and a common historic root (note that in the non-bio equivalents, both are under Category:Football stubs with the other codes of football, so Category:Rugby biography stubs is outside the regular tree system, having no sporting parent). Considering even the wheelchair rugby article states in its lead: "It has little in common with Rugby football except for the name" I don't think that is a good place to upmerge to. I would prefer to see either a range of tags or a single generic tag across paralympic sports, upmerging to either Category:Paralympics stubs or a newly created category. --Qetuth (talk) 18:19, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- I agree with you over the rugby bio category, I don't think a paralympic bio category would be a good idea, may be upmerge to paralympic stubs for now and a category when it reached 60, given that I've moved a load out of Aussie rugby union bio stubs we have at least enough for a template and with the games coming up, hopefully will soon have enough for a category. Waacstats (talk) 21:47, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- To clarify, does anyone have an issue with creating the stub and upmerging to Category:Paralympics stubs? --Qetuth (talk) 06:35, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
- No problem here --Redrose64 (talk) 15:50, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Split of Category:Paralympic medalist stubs

Category is starting to get quite large, suggest splitting this by country, the following all have over 30 articles and I suspect at least some will pass 60 soon as I am adding more stub articles daily.
- {{Brazil-Paralympic-medalist-stub}} - Category:Brazilian Paralympic medalist stubs
- {{Cuba-Paralympic-medalist-stub}} - Category:Cuban Paralympic medalist stubs
- {{Japan-Paralympic-medalist-stub}} - Category:Japanese Paralympic medalist stubs
- {{Mexico-Paralympic-medalist-stub}} - Category:Mexican Paralympic medalist stubs
- {{NewZealand-Paralympic-medalist-stub}} - Category:New Zealand Paralympic medalist stubs
- {{Russia-Paralympic-medalist-stub}} - Category:Russian Paralympic medalist stubs
- {{SouthAfrica-Paralympic-medalist-stub}} - Category:South African Paralympic medalist stubs
- {{Spain-Paralympic-medalist-stub}} - Category:Spanish Paralympic medalist stubs
- {{Ukraine-Paralympic-medalist-stub}} - Category:Ukrainian Paralympic medalist stubs
I am proposing we create the templates for now but if we get to the 60 mark in the next month or so then create the category. Waacstats (talk) 00:29, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds good, and the templates are all speediable as other countries have already been started. --Qetuth (talk) 07:00, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Category:All stubs

I would like to see a category which holds all stub articles. Currently I'm using AWB to assemble a list of all stubs, which I will then run through, but it's very time consuming because many of the categories in Stub Types overlap. Articles can be tagged by more with more than one stub template. A category which held just articles would fix that, and it would also be useful because it could show how many stubs there are in en.wikipedia. It would be analagous to Category:All orphaned articles. I have yet to find such a category, I don't think one exists, so I propose that one be made. Jesse V. (talk) 00:40, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- There is one all-encompassing category: Category:Stub categories. Every article marked with a valid stub template (one that is constructed using
{{asbox}}
) will be in one to three stub categories, and every such stub category should be a direct member of Category:Stub categories (and will be automatically if the category page bears a{{Stub Category}}
). --Redrose64 (talk) 14:59, 28 July 2012 (UTC)- I've seen that category, and it holds only other categories. Like you described, articles can contain multiple stub tags, so recursively loading that list using AWB means that there's a great deal of overlap between all the sub-categories. This can cause AWB's request to time out, puts unnecessary strain on the servers, and takes a lot of CPU time for AWB to filter out all the duplicates. I have managed to assemble a complete list of Stubs, but it took several days, and I had to write a Java program to efficiently get rid of the large amount of duplicates. It would be much easier if there were a category that held just stubs, and not any sub-categories. It already exists for many other tags, such as Wikify, Orphan, Cleanup, etc. Please make one for Stubs. Jesse V. (talk) 17:21, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- I think the fact that there are so many articles marked with a stub template would make the category so large as to be almost useless and certainly much larger than for wikify, orphan etc. Waacstats (talk) 16:26, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- There are approximately 1.6 million stubs, according to the list I assembled after my Java program removed duplicates. That's quite a large category, a request for all articles would most likely cause a timeout somewhere. Hmm. Jesse V. (talk) 18:08, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Toy stubs

There are currently over 900 stub-class articles in {{WikiProject Toys}}. In sorting these articles into the proper stub categories, right now the only stub tag available is {{Toy-stub}}. Therefore, I see the need for several new stub tags with corresponding sub-categories. I propose creating the following as children of Category:Toy stubs:
- Category:Doll stubs with {{Doll-stub}}: 399 articles; may require additional sub-categories of its own
- Category:Lego stubs with {{Lego-stub}}: 48 articles; but there may be more stub-class articles in {{WikiProject Lego}} that fall into this category
- Category:Puppet stubs with {{Puppet-stub}}: 67 articles
- Category:Toy company stubs with {{Toy-company-stub}}: 255 articles
There may be more, as I have only sorted through the B's so far alphabetically. But I already foresee the need for these stub categories, and it would be better to create them now, rather than have to re-sort Category:Toy stubs later, and update all the stub tags then. Fortdj33 (talk) 18:21, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Support these, assuming Lego reaches enough for a category - perhaps a broader category such as Construction toy stubs would be better, as long as it's not confused with toy construction. Also suggest a clear description at the top of the Doll stub category of what does and doesn't constitute a doll article for our purposes. (eg, Puppets are a subcat of dolls in the permcat, as are teddy bears).--Qetuth (talk) 06:58, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Since articles marked with {{stub}} require sorting and it is unlikely that a case will occur where no stub category with an existing template is appropriate, the {{stub}}
template and Category:Stubs should be marked as historical. G. C. Hood (talk) 03:32, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Perhaps
{{stub}}
could be given a notice - either on the template page, displayed in articles, or both - stating something along the lines aof the message at the top of Category:Stubs. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:41, 23 July 2012 (UTC) - I strongly disagre with the deprication of {{stub}}, however I do agree with your point that it's unlikely that an article won't fit into any stub category. Automatic or semi-automatic tools such as AWB should be able to mark it as a stub, and it can later be categorized. The call for expansion is present whether {{stub}} is used or any other stub template, and that's the important thing. Jesse V. (talk) 00:33, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- I think we need a stub tag we can tell users (both human and bots) to use for tagging clear stubs without needing to navigate the whole stub category tree. {{stub}} fits this need. Stub sorters can then sort them correctly. Note that a few times I saw {{stub}}s that even I couldn't sort. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 04:58, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Propose new template. Will triple-upmerge to:
- Category:Asian airport stubs
- Category:North Korea transport stubs
- Category:North Korean building and structure stubs
Dawynn (talk) 16:09, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
- Support I count 47 airports in Category:North Korea transport stubs alone; also two airfields and an air force base. (i.e. all bar Rungra Bridge). --Redrose64 (talk) 21:20, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
Various stub templates, no cats

Confession time. I've created several stub templates, mainly in order to facilitate the clearing-out of Wikipedia:Database reports/Stubs included directly in stub categories but also to tidy up one or two other anomalies.
These are as follows: {{1890s-comedy-film-stub}}
; {{1900s-horror-film-stub}}
; {{1910s-horror-film-stub}}
; {{1920s-horror-film-stub}}
; {{Ecuador-road-stub}}
; {{NorthKorea-railstation-stub}}
; {{Pakistan-railstation-stub}}
; {{Portugal-gov-stub}}
; {{Syria-gov-stub}}
; {{Vietnam-railstation-stub}}
.
Not sure whether these qualify under "speedy creation", so I'm listing them all here. I've not created any new categories: all of these upmerge into existing stub cats (although {{NorthKorea-railstation-stub}}
could really do with upmerging into non-existent Category:North Korean building and structure stubs instead of Category:Asian building and structure stubs). --Redrose64 (talk) 17:07, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
- Support. For both the new standard templates, and speedy support for the North Korean structure category. Dawynn (talk) 17:48, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
- Done the creation of Category:North Korean building and structure stubs; have amended NorthKorea-struct-stub and NorthKorea-railstation-stub to sit in it - it didn't take long for 81 articles to also move themselves into the new cat. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:46, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
- Add to the initial list:
{{SriLanka-railstation-stub}}
. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:58, 19 July 2012 (UTC) - Also
{{Austria-railstation-stub}}
for which I also created Category:Austria transport stubs. Unfortunately that came out at 49 articles, not the ~60 that I thought I counted in Category:Austria stubs, Category:European railway station stubs and Category:Austrian building and structure stubs. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:15, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Category:Asian law stubs contains 84 articles and two country-specific stub templates. Not all of the cat's members use those two templates - the following six are placed directly into the category: Adat; Attorney General of Sri Lanka; Attorney General of the Maldives; Attorney-General's Department (Sri Lanka); Chief Justice of Malaysia; Chief Justice of Singapore. Should we create five country-specific templates for these (Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Singapore, Sri Lanka), or one generic stub template? --Redrose64 (talk) 16:45, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
- I think we should have an {{Asia-law-stub}} - there are probably more stubs that would have it if it had existed --Qetuth (talk) 01:22, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
- No objections, so created --Redrose64 (talk) 21:12, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

There are 25 articles in Category:Professional association stubs that would be better categorized with this stub, and I counted 46 in Category:Scientific organization stubs before stopping at the end of M (it's a bit of work counting these, I'd rather just go through and add/replace the stub once it's made).TimofKingsland (talk) 07:37, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
