This course will offer a comprehensive introduction to the role of Latina/os behind and in front of the cameras. Focused specifically on media produced in the U.S. in both English and Spanish, this course studies the birth and development of this niche market. We will be looking at film, television, radio, and online texts. We will examine the role of Latina/o media on identity formations in the U.S. This course will approach Latina/o media from various theoretical and methodological perspectives. Together, we will explore not only issues of representation but also modes of production and distribution that shape Latina/o communities every day in the U.S.
