This is a 6-week intensive summer course that will be taught in an asynchronous online format.

This class introduces students to the field of archaeology. We will examine how archaeologists know the past, learning who archaeologists are, what methods they use, how they compile their results, and how their work is disseminated and taken seriously (or not).

The research project for this course is to create or expand on a Wikipedia article about archaeology. This could be an article about an archaeological site, a past culture, or an archaeological theory or debate. Students will focus on academic writing, supporting their claims with citations, and peer review. A major theme in this course will be to critically analyze who gets to tell the story of humanity's past, which topics get written about, and which voices get silenced.
