What are these badges, and where do they come from?

[edit]

These badges derive from two separate concepts:

  • Open Badges
This system is set up to establish transparent and reliable records of who earned what, and what it represents. It is implemented by the School of Open and Peer to Peer University here: P2PU Badges
  • Wikipedia Service Awards
This user is a
Registered Editor
and is entitled to display this Service Badge.
This editor is a
Novice Editor
and is entitled to display this Service Badge.

The "Signator" (otherwise known as "Registered Editor") is the basis for the WikiSOO Signator Badge. It is for editors who have made at least 200 edits, and have had an account for at least one month. The WikiSOO version adds a few requirements.

The "Burba" (otherwise known as "Novice Editor") is the basis for the WikiSOO Burba Badge. It is for editors who have made at least 200 edits, and have had an account for at least one month. The WikiSOO version adds a few requirements.

How do I apply for a badge?

[edit]

To complete the WIKISOO course and earn the WIKISOO Burba Badge or the WIKISOO Signator Badge, you will need to apply on the P2PU site.

  1. Create an account at p2pu.org, and log in
  2. Click Signator or Burba
  3. Click the green button that says "submit a project for this badge"
  4. Fill in the form, explaining why your work meets the standards of the badge. Please include relevant diff links, talk page links, etc. to illustrate your work!

Don't worry too much about "getting it exactly right." If there are questions, we will ask them, and you can amend your application.

How and where can I display the badge?

[edit]

When you are awarded a badge, it will be added to your user talk page. Please feel free to move it to your user page, and display it as you like! (Wikipedians sometimes put barnstars and service awards at the top of their page, sometimes leave them on their "talk" page, sometimes create a sub-page called "trophy chest" or something like that -- it's up to you!)

You will also be awarded the badge on the p2pu.org site. You may add it to your Mozilla Backpack, or display it on any other web site, with a link that proves that you earned it. Watch for more specific instructions soon!
