Wikipedia talk:Things that should not be surprising
If there's a better way to organize this list, I'd like to hear about it. Thanks, Luc "Somethingorother" French 06:49, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- I've tried something new; anybody care to comment on this new arrangement? Thanks, Luc "Somethingorother" French 10:14, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
In addition, I'm considering moving this to "Wikipedia:Things that should not be surprising". Any arguments with that? Thanks, Luc "Somethingorother" French 10:14, 2 September 2007 (UTC) Done. Thanks, Luc "Somethingorother" French 11:43, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
People section, entry 7 - reads as ableism, propose removal
[edit]I would like to remove entry 7 from the People section, as, in the context of the page and intended-to-be-humorous tone of the text, it reads in a way that promotes stigma.
Another option is rewording it to indicate that neurodiverse people may behave in ways inconsistent with social norms, and that this should be taken into account when trying to understand their behavior.
However, in its current iteration, it reads as being quite offensive in a way that is highly inappropriate for Wikipedia and violates NPOV. This was written a long time ago, and society has progressed since then. Edgelord humor from the 00s has not aged well.
If there are no objections or proposals for alteration within 10 days (2022-12-21 at 00:00 UTC), I will remove entry #7 of the People section.
For reference, this is the text in question: "People with mental disorders are just as common on Wikipedia as anywhere else." LesbianTiamat (talk) 20:29, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- As a reasonable amount of time for comments on this rather minor change has passed, I will make the edit removing it. If anybody has later objections, please post them as a reply here so that they may be discussed. LesbianTiamat (talk) 04:34, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
