Yoon Do-young (Korean: 윤도영; born October 28, 2006) is a South Korean professional footballer who plays as a forward for K League 1 club Daejeon Hana Citizen. He made his debut professional appearance in the 2024 K League 1 season.
Life and career
[edit]Early life and youth career
[edit]Yoon Do-young was born on October 28, 2006, in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.[1][2] He began playing soccer as a first grade elementary school student and joined Suji Junior FC. He later moved to Daejeon after being scouted by the Daejeon Youth Team.[2] He played for the Daejeon Hana Citizen U-15 Team, which won its first championship at the K League Junior League in 2021; Yoon scored ten goals throughout the tournament.[3] The club went on to win an additional two championships that year.[2] Yoon was credited for playing a key role in the team's achievement of a treble.[1]
Yoon enrolled at Chungnam Mechanical Technical High School and played for the Daejeon Hana Citizen U-18 Team.[2] He executed a hat-trick in the fifth round of the K League (Group B) 2023 Junior National High School Football League. With a final score of 6–0, it marked the club's first victory of the season.[4] He scored a tie-breaking goal against Yuseong Bio Science Technology High School and defeated the institution 3–2. The victory allowed his high school to represent Daejeon at the 104th National Sports Festival.[5]
Senior career
[edit]Yoon signed with Daejeon Hana Citizen for the 2024 K League 1 season as the second semi-professional footballer in the club's history following Ahn Tae-yoon four years earlier.[6] He made his first appearance on May 25 in a match against Ulsan HD FC; at seventeen years, six months, and 27 days old, he became the youngest player to debut in the team's history.[7] After seven months, Yoon signed a professional contract with Daejeon Hana Citizen, the first time the club extended such an offer.[8] In September, he scored his debut league goal in the first 50 seconds of a match against Gwangju FC. He became the third 17-year old to score that year after Yang Min-hyeok and Kang Ju-hyeok.[9]
International career
[edit]Yoon was selected to represent the South Korea national team.[10] At the 2023 AFC U-17 Asian Cup Group B match against the Afghanistan national team, he scored two goals, one with each foot.[11] His team reached the finals, ultimately losing to the Japan national team.[2] By the end of the tournament, he and Kim Myung-jun scored four goals and one assists each.[12] They were the top South Korean scorers and second overall.[13][14]
Yoon was a member of the squad which participated in the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup.[15]
Style of play
[edit]Yoon plays as a forward for Daejeon Hana Citizen.[6] For the national team, he has been utilized as an attacking midfielder and right winger.[2] He is a left-footed player whose playing style has been compared to Lee Kang-in.[1] The International Football Federation described Yoon as a "talented winger" and "outstanding dribbler" who demonstrates creativity, likening his dribbling skills to those of Arjen Robben.[16] Jung Ji-hun of FourFourTwo Korea praised him for his speed and his ability to "create offensive routes through ball possession and pressure".[17] Yoon cites Lionel Messi, Son Heung-min, and Lee Kang-in as his role models.[1][17]
