Fulfilled requests
[edit]Write a GA on a number
[edit]- Offeror: Sdkb talk, on behalf of WikiProject Mathematics
- Date offered: 16:38, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- Request: Articles on numbers are notoriously crufty, and part of the issue may be the dearth of high-quality examples. Bring an article on an integer between 10 and 100 (exclusive) to GA status.
- Reward: The Mathematics Barnstar.
- Expires: When a qualifying article reaches GA status (if another article is being actively worked on at that point, I'd be flexible).
- Sign-up: Ping me upon completion.
- Hi @Sdkb:, 69 (number) is now a GA! ツ LunaEatsTuna (💬)— 05:33, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
Use AWB to templatize all U.S. Presidential election county results
[edit]- Offeror: – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs)
- Date offered: 17:44, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- Request: Using AutoWikiBrowser, convert all U.S. county presidential election results from wikitable markup (such as at Rockland County, New York) into template form using {{PresHead}}, {{PresRow}}, and {{PresFoot}} (such as at Cook County, Illinois). Consensus exists for this change so it is not a "controversial" change that is prohibited by AWB rules. I have AWB access, but I don't know how to use its regex features to accomplish this task. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 17:44, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- Reward: An appropriate barnstar. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 17:44, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- Limit on rewards: None – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 17:44, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- Expires: Whenever you get around to it. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 17:44, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- Sign-up: Just ping me when you're done. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 17:44, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- For whoever takes up this task:

- Working on this at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Qwerfjkl (bot) 8. ― Qwerfjkltalk 07:17, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
- @John M Wolfson, I know this is very late, but the task is, inasmuch as it can be automated, complete. There are a under 200 pages listed at User:Qwerfjkl/UScounties that could not be automatically. If you find any pages not listed on that page that still have wikitable markup, the bot may be able to process it (might not be worth it unless there are a large number). ― Qwerfjkltalk 17:21, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

Kurt Vonnegut photo
[edit]- Offeror: Yaksar (let's chat)
- Date offered: 19:22, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- Request: While the author Kurt Vonnegut has a very iconic appearance, there are apparently no free images of him besides a photo taken during his military service, which is currently in the article. While we are able to use non-free images "where no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information", I'm not sure if we are prevented from doing so by the existence of the army photo. Regardless, it would be a great solution if someone could find a free photo taken of him with his iconic appearance. He's spoken at numerous public events, so I think it may be likely that one exists somewhere.
- @Yaksar:Would this image work out? It doesn't have him with wavy hair but he is rocking his mustache. GamerPro64 02:42, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- It would definitely be better! It does not, however, seem to meet the copyright requirements for us to use here. Are you the owner of the photo by any chance?--Yaksar (let's chat) 04:35, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- I am not. I looked up Kurt Vonnegut on Flickr in hopes that there would be a replacement for it there. I thought that it being on Flickr would allow us to upload it here. GamerPro64 18:21, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- I wish! Unfortunately, we're limited to specific Flickr licenses. Check out Wikipedia:Upload/Flickr for more detailed information.--Yaksar (let's chat) 18:42, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Terraria for Terraria
[edit]- Offeror: Odie5533 (talk)
- Date offered: 16:59, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- Requests:
- A giftable copy of Terraria on Steam to any user that brings one of these survival video games to GA: Terraria, Don't Starve, Wasteland (video game), S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
- Limit on rewards: Limit one reward per article. You must message me with your intent to improve the article for this reward.
- Expires: August 13, 2014
- Note: I am not affiliated with Terraria in any way. I simply have extra copies of it in my Steam inventory.
- I'm curious: why these games? The articles for Terraria and Amnesia don't look too far from GA status as they are. Tezero (talk) 06:14, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
- Y'know what, never mind. I do want to play Terraria. I'll message you. Tezero (talk) 21:35, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- These articles were chosen because they are in the Survival genre and because they need(ed) improvement. --Odie5533 (talk) 04:55, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- Ah. Anyway, to other potential takers, I'm doing Don't Starve. I'm not sure if Odie5533 has other copies of Terraria. Tezero (talk) 22:34, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Checking up on this request. Tezero, did you ever get that copy of Terraria from User:Odie5533? GamerPro64 17:17, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, I did. It's fun enough, though I haven't played more than a few hours yet. Tezero (talk) 17:37, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

- Offeror: Stanton By Your Man (talk)
- Date offered: 13:11, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
- Request: Currently, Wikipedia has no article about the Stanton Foundation, the over $200-million offspring of the Ruth and Frank Stanton Fund. Please create a suitable "Start" article about the foundation.
- Reward: $5 for an appropriate 3- to 5-sentence lede, plus $3 per reliably-sourced sentence of follow-up detail regarding this topic, up to $21.
- Limit on rewards: Multiple recipients are eligible, but maximum payout will be $26. No rewards will be paid if the article is deleted or merged to Frank Stanton (executive) within 30 days of its creation.
- Expired: July 4, 2014
- I would move this request to "Expired requests" since it expired yesterday, but it appears that it was fulfilled. I emailed Stanton By Your Man on how he was going to carry out the reward but I did not get a response from him. I'm not sure what to do. GamerPro64 05:41, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'd like to quickly point out that my e-mail inbox lacks any notification of being contacted by you, GamerPro64; but regardless, I appreciate this reminder that the offer has expired. By my reckoning, User:Eddymason is entitled to $5 for starting an appropriate 3- to 5-sentence lede, plus $9 for three additional reliably-sourced sentences of follow-up detail. I then calculate that User:The Devil's Advocate is entitled to $12 for adding approximately four additional sentences, although it is a little difficult to determine exactly because of much over-writing of Eddymason's content. This would sum to $26, which was the maximum payout. I will also note that User:Geraldshields11 added a heavy dose of incorrect information, attributing the Stanton Foundation (tax EIN number 133598005) to a doppelganger namesake in Jackson, Michigan, which has nothing to do with the Ruth and Frank Stanton body. If it is not too much trouble, I would ask that this notice (which I've now marked "Expired") stay in place until payments can be authenticated. - Stanton By Your Man (talk) 12:23, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- I believe I actually added more like eight sentences. Six in the activities section and two in the history section.--The Devil's Advocate tlk. cntrb. 15:53, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- That is entirely possible. However, with Eddymason accounting first for $14 of the maximum $26, there was only $12 remaining for the additional sentences, anyway. I understand from my financial assistant that the two beneficiaries from this request have been paid via PayPal, so it can be moved to "Expired". Also, just to play devil's advocate for a moment, it may be appropriate to point out here that The Devil's Advocate seems to have been in violation of the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, which specify:
- "...with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. You must make that disclosure in at least one of the following ways:
- a statement on your user page,
- a statement on the talk page accompanying any paid contributions, or
- a statement in the edit summary accompanying any paid contributions."
- "...with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. You must make that disclosure in at least one of the following ways:
- Eddymason's edits predated the Wikimedia Foundation's new Terms of Use which focus on paid editing, so that is why I am only mentioning The Devil's Advocate. It seems that a more explicit reminder of the Wikimedia Foundation Terms of Use should be placed on this Reward Board page. I don't feel like a long-enough contributor in good standing to have the authority to make substantial changes to the preamble on this page. - Stanton By Your Man (talk) 12:46, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

- Date offered: 13:11, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
- Request: Currently, Wikipedia's biography of Mr. Stanton contains no mention of his involvement in setting up anti-Communist surveillance at CBS in the early 1950's and the quiet blacklisting of certain actors and directors. It is a blemish on his record that he later (softly) regretted, or explained that he felt forced to do in order to keep CBS advertisers happy. It's an important enough event that it belongs (fully and reliably documented) in his Wikipedia biography.
- Reward: $3 per reliably-sourced sentence regarding this topic, up to $15.
- Limit on rewards: Multiple recipients are eligible, but maximum payout will be $15.
- Expires: July 4, 2014

Expand List of Wikipedia controversies
[edit]- Offeror: SB Johnny on behalf of The Wikipediocracy Fund
- Date offered: 15 April 2013
- Request: English Wikipedia now has a new List article about the various Wikipedia controversies that have taken place over the years. The List is organized chronologically, by the date when the controversy either happened or became notably covered in reliable sources. We wish to see the List expanded with additional bullet points, where each bullet point is an independent event, and the editor must write at least 50 words about the event, and properly reference at least one credible, reliable source to verify the event and demonstrate its notability. Candidates for this prize will be registered Wikipedia user accounts whose entries are submitted under just one account (no use of multiple accounts). The judges will disqualify any added bullet points that fail to meet the 50-word minimum, or that insufficiently document the content with legitimate reliable sourcing. The judges will also disqualify any user who attempts to "game" the challenge (such as: duplicating entries on the same controversy; deleting the work of others and trying to re-add it as his/her own; plagiarizing other sources; etc.). Note that some Wikipedia articles already have a "Wikipedia controversy" section. Adding these to the new List are fair game, but the edit summary must clearly indicate that the content was based on material already in Wikipedia, not newly-generated content. Also, if you enter copied material that was covered only in a non-English Wikipedia, your edit summary must clearly indicate that your content was based on material translated from another Wikipedia, not newly-generated content.
- Reward: Every qualifying contributor to the List will receive a coveted Internet Barnstar. The contributor adding the second-most qualifying bullet points will receive $75 (USD) from The Wikipediocracy Fund. The contributor who adds the most qualifying bullet points will receive $150 (USD) from The Wikipediocracy Fund, along with the Oddball Barnstar. Cash awards may be received via check or PayPal (to recipients who are willing to disclose their identity to Wikipediocracy judges), or the awards may be donated to a non-profit humanitarian charity of choice.
- Limit on rewards: No limit on Internet Barnstars. Limit of two (2) cash awards.
- Expires: 31 May 2013. Judges will issue all the awards before 15 June 2013.

Women's rights in Saudi Arabia Needs a Consistent Cite Format
[edit]- Offeror: Noloop (talk)
- Date offered: 17:58, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- Request:There is a recent peer review: [35]. The main obstacle to GA status, I suspect, is that the citations are a mix of the simple "ref" format, and some other fancier templates. There are about 100 citations, so this isn't something I can (or want) to fix myself. Help needed!
- Reward: Dunno. I've never done this before. A barnstar? Propose an article for deletion and I'll vote your way ! (Just kidding.) A peer review. Make an offer (not money). Whatever happened to good deeds being their own reward? Let's get the article to GA status.
- Expires: When GA status is achieved or at 17:58, 11 September 2010 (UTC)Expiration date added by Griffinofwales (talk) Come and join theSimple English Wikipedia. See rules at top.

Revert vandalism on my user page
[edit]- Offeror: The Utahraptor Talk
- Date offered: 00:41, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
- Request: I'm busy patrolling Recent Changes, and may or may not notice vandalism on my user page quickly. What I want is for anybody that has rollback rights or uses Twinkle to revert any vandalism you find on my user page. Any edit that is made by an IP address, even if it appears constructive, is vandalism, because I always make sure I'm logged in before I do anything with my user page. Also any edit from a new user that isn't a vandalism revert is probably vandalism, too.
- Reward: I am prepared to offer an anti-vandalism barnstar to anyone who reverts vandalism on my user page. If you revert more than three vandal edits on my user page you will get the user page shield barnstar.
- Limit on rewards: Four barnstars per person.
- Expires: 4/20/11

[edit]- Offeror: Ottawa4ever (talk)
- Date offered: 17:02, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- Request: Wikipedia:VANDALSIM#Types_of_vandalism lists over 20 types of vandalism edits. The task is to find 4 examples of 4 different types of vandalism listed in this table in wikipedia. Once found those disruptive edits should be reverted and the disrupting user should be warned. An example of succesfully completing this challenge would be reverting 4 incidences of blanking, 4 incidences of spam, 4 incidences of userspace vandalism, and 4 incidences of silly vandalism. Any configuration is acceptable so long as the incidences are examples from the table on WP:Vandalism. Once you've completed the task please notify me with the appropriate diffs (or post any questions here); O4E Challenges. In addition to spice the challenge and in the spirit of collaboration, you may collaborate with another user to revert vandalism (someone with little previous anti-vandalsim background) and present a combined application (same requirements 4 x 4 incidences for a total of 16 vandalism reversions in the combined application), an additional Defender of the Wiki star will be presented to both you and the new user for this feat providing you combined meet the challenge. As a side note, the collaboration should be mostly equal in terms of edit count for the challenge Queries/ problems bugs please message me thanks.
- Reward: Anti-vandalsim Barnstar for independent hunting, Defender of the wiki for collaborative effort
- Limit on rewards: 1 per person
- Expires: March 2011 (or until 4 people/groups have completed the competition)

- Request: Read Wikipedia:Vandalism. Under the types of vandalism heading there is a list of catageories. The task is to find an example of ten types of vandalism and undo them (if possible*). Make sure after you undo the edit to warn the doer. If you can find an example of at least 10 different types and revert them (there are 21 different types) then i will award you with a barnstar. I wil give a barnstar after you notify me here; User:Ottawa4ever/rewards with the proper 'diff' and describe why and proove the edit was sneaky vandalism. Be sure to fix or revert the information so that the article is accurate afterwards.
- Reward: Anti-Vandalism barnstar.

- Expires: May 15, 2010
- Reward: $150 for a featured article, $50 each for up to 10 good articles (4 remaining) or for making list of furry conventions, list of furry comics or list of furry role-playing games a featured list.
- Offerers: Rat and GreenReaper
- Date offered: October 9, 2007
- Expires: January 1, 2010 Offer extended on June 14, 2009
- Limit on topics: Must fall within the theme of WikiProject Furry and be "in the furry community," not merely "something [some] furries are interested in." As a rough guide, topics falling within Category:Furry fandom are a good sign, while topics around before the late 1960s/early 1970s (before the furry community existed) are unlikely to count, as are creative properties or characters developed by large companies. For example: The Lion King, Set (mythology), or Miles "Tails" Prower would not be suitable, while Albedo Anthropomorphics, fursuit or furry convention would. All non-related-topic entries in {{furry fandom}} are good choices. If in doubt, contact offerers in advance.
- Limit on rewards: Only the first featured article and the first ten good articles will receive a bounty.

- Request: Wikipedia:Editor review is backlogged and desperately needs reviewers. If you've ever been ignored in your life I'm sure you know how it feels.. not very nice. Every editor deserves at least a few positive words on their progress or constructive criticism if they request it. Therefore I will offer a barnstar (maybe two depending on how good the reviews are) to anyone who provides at least 3 editors with reviews. But they MUST be good quality reviews, each tailored to the specific individual and not just generic boilerplates for every editor.
- Reward: A special barnstar
- Limit on rewards: Since I won't always be monitoring the page, I'll limit it to 5 different people that each give 3 reviews, they'll all get barnstars, and that's 15 editors reviewed so I'm happy with that. If anyone gives more than 3 reviews then I will give them more barnstars if that's what they want :) The point is, we want these editors to feel important and encouraged.

Completing short descriptions for good articles
[edit]- Offerer: {{u|Sdkb}} talk

Add content links to Frances Parthenope Verney
[edit]- Literature Girl: Literaturegirl (talk)
- October 6, 2021: 18:01, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
- Request: On the Frances Parthenope Verney article, there is a link to a google archived article "In a Great Town Hospital" in the external links section. Many thank yous to whoever did that. I found that extremely valuable. If possible, I would like to add two more links to that section. The links should lead the reader to other important articles by Parthenope Verney. The articles I would like to see included are "The Miseries of War" and "Class Morality (“Class Morality.” Saint Paul's Magazine 8 (June 1871): 259-268. British Periodicals.") The Wikipedia article on P. Verney references both of these articles. They are equally representative of P. Verney's work with the Great Town Hospital article. Please note the links should lead to the complete text of the article, not bibliographical information.
- Reward: US $25 via PayPal per link to each entire article, the tireless contributor barnstar, and I will reciprocate by copy editing up to three articles of your choice. Please be sure you understand PayPal before taking this assignment. It can take several days for the payment to "clear." It's almost as bad as mailing a check. If you'd prefer me to mail you a check, please let me know. Please correspond with me on my talk page about this if you would like to know more. Disclosure: I am a Nightingale scholar, and Parthenope is a Nightingale. I am not related to the Nightingales, however.

I'm also especially willing to help translate articles (EN/ES, either direction) and proofread for grammar/spelling (EN/ES). I can also add archive links to references wherever needed and hunt for new refs.

Remove "A" as the first word from short descriptions

- Sign-up: Feel free to ping me here when you start on this task, and another ping when you finish.
- For the sake of the sanity of whoever takes this up: Please use AWB. For anyone not familiar use the search hastemplate:"short description" insource:/short description\|[Aan? /]to generate the list and replace
({{[Ss]hort description\|)[Aa]n? (\w)
with$1{{subst:uc:$2}}
. This is also a typical example of when JWB with faster saving and better substitution handling in diffs. If you don't have AWB access just ask. The folks at WP:AWBREQ are also always hungry for tasks. --Trialpears (talk) 21:54, 22 June 2021 (UTC) - @Trialpears This doesn't work when the character after the 'a(n)' is not a number or a letter, such as here. As a side note, thanks for the RegEx! —Qwerfjkltalk 20:35, 27 June 2021 (UTC)
- Qwerfjkl I think you messed up the oldid, but the solution would be expanding the types of characters it capture after a(n). Try replacing \w with a period (.) which should match literally anything instead of just "word characters". I can't guarantee there won't be weird edge cases though. --Trialpears (talk) 20:49, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

- I imagine there are a couple of false positives where it could cause issues. For example "A iPhone model" would be converted to "IPhone model" which wouldn't be great. --Trialpears (talk) 22:55, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Note: A useful task, but I would ask anyone tackling it not just to blindly remove "A" or "An". While you're there, also check that the remainder of the description complies with WP:SDFORMAT. In particular, many existing descriptions are far too long and need to be shortened to no more than 40 characters. MichaelMaggs (talk) 07:48, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

- @Qwerfjkl: I'm curious why you're using
Note: An initial article ("a", "an", or "the") should only be removed from short descriptions that are noun phrases. When an article has a short description formatted as a sentence (Example: Euclid's lemma, "A prime that divides a product divides one of the factors"), the article should not be removed, because it would break the grammar of the sentence. Also, do not convert these sentences into noun phrases by adding useless verbiage ("Lemma that a prime that divides a product divides one of the factors") just to comply with the rule about articles in short descriptions; that would not be an improvement. —David Eppstein (talk) 20:14, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

- Just to echo MichaelMaggs and David Eppstein. Do not blindly remove articles as an automated tick box exercise. There are many cases when they are needed for accuracy. This should not be treated as a hard rule. SpinningSpark 19:11, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- ... and in fact the WP:SDFORMAT guideline says just that "avoid initial articles (A, An, The) except when required for correct grammar and meaning". SpinningSpark 07:06, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

- I'll try to make a dent on these. Retswerb (talk) 06:28, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
- Having a go at this (although there are definitely some articles still in the category that have already had their descriptions shortened). pinktoebeans (talk) 19:28, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- I'll participate in this. I usually find these long ones annoying, and here's some incentivization. -2pou (talk) 23:13, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- There's definitely something buggy in populating this category. A number seem to correlate to auto-generated short descriptions from certain infoboxes (i.e. the auto SD would be long, but someone overrode/customized it with something short, yet it's still flagged), but others I can't figure out. -2pou (talk) 01:02, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
- To help out people finding the same, there are some opened topics regarding this category at Wikipedia talk:Short description#Template incorrectly categorizing when transcluded and Wikipedia talk:Short description#"Category:Articles with long short description" isn't working that indicate this category can't be fully cleared until some additional changes are made (not sure if it'd be on the category end or the transclusion end). To editor Luxtaythe2nd: Courtesy ping for SA as the offeror. -2pou (talk) 20:19, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
- Maybe you could try an (expensive) search like
hastemplate:"Short description" insource:/\{\{short description\|[^\}]{100,}/

I'll try to make a dent at this when I can. JML1148 (talk) 23:36, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
- Ditto. I'll go take a look at the category and take care of what I can. Regards, User:TheDragonFire300. (Contact me | Contributions). 08:53, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
- Let's do this. I'll try to get 25-75 per day. interstatefive 18:06, 9 June 2022 (UTC)
- Well I did about 15 and 3 got reverted (1 with the edit summary "vandalism"), so I may want to stay away from this for a bit. interstatefive 15:28, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Luxtaythe2nd: Just to let you know, the backlog was recently finished. There aren't any articles left in the category. (Not sure exactly who contributed if you're giving out barnstars. I contributed, but only somewhere between 100 and 200 articles.) — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 14:07, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
- @PerfectSoundWhatever: Alright. I'll close this shortly. Luxtay the IInd (talketh to me) 17:16, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Luxtaythe2nd: Well... Some new articles popped up, i'll see what I can do. Always a pleasure to help with things like that Craffael.09 (talk) 22:47, 24 October 2022 (UTC) 22:47, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
