[edit]This network is called Country Music Television. It is in Canada. It is not called Country Music Television Canada. The official title of this article should be "Country Music Television (Canada)" to differentiate it from the American network of the same name. --Zpb52 01:31, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- This maybe true, but all other Canadian channels that are of a foreign brand such as Fine Living, ESPN Classic, and more do not use Canada in as their official name, but in then Wikipedia articles, they all use Canada without the brackets at then end of the name such as "Fine Living Canada", "ESPN Classic Canada", "OLN Canada", etc... so this article should be no different from the rest.
- You have made my point for me. Thank you. We should start a Wikiproject to rename them all. Just trying to make Wikipedia as accurate as possible. Please do not revert this article again until you read Wikipedia:Naming_conventions. --Zpb52 02:31, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- NOTE: As I was doing some research on other Canadian networks, some (such as Bravo! Canada) do include the word "Canada" in its name. Some others (Food Network Canada) contain a maple leaf in the logo. Others, such as CMT, have no differentiation at all. So, what I'm saying is, that not all of them should be in parentheses, just the ones that don't officially have the word "Canada" in their names. --Zpb52 02:40, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- NOTE #2: I have sent in a Request for third opinion on this dispute. --Zpb52 03:22, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- It's ambiguous what the network calls itself. "CMT Canada" and "CMT" seem to be used interchangeably. If I had to choose, I would go with the current version (Canada in parentheses) since "CMT" is the more common name, and this is the Canadian version of it. Fagstein 09:03, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
All throughtout the website, it refers itself as CMT Canada, it may not have "Canada" plastered on its logo, but it still refers itself as "CMT Canada" almost everywhere else you look on the website, even the websites address is cmtcanada.com not cmt.ca. Just becuase its not written in the logo does not mean at all that the name of the service is not CMT Canada. And also if you want to be exact about it, the service refers itself as CMT Canada not Country Music Television Canada, just as Outdoor Life Network refers itself as OLN and Home & Garden Television refers itself as HGTV, so maybe the article should be CMT Canada not Country Music Television Canada. —This unsigned comment was added by 69.198.108.51 (talk • contribs) .
I'm basing my opinion on this page. The website calls itself CMTCANADA.COM, the company calls itself CMT Canada, (owned by "Country Music Television Ltd."), and the network refers to itself simply as "CMT" to the public. So, take your pick. I agree that "Country Music Television Canada" is not used. The most correct version would probably be "CMT Canada", but the current name also fits. (Third opinion) I have carefully read the above debate. From the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) web site, it can be read [1]:
- The Commission approves an application to amend the broadcasting licence for the national, English-language specialty service known as Country Music Television, (...).
- The Commission received an application by Country Music Television Ltd. to amend the broadcasting licence for the national, English-language specialty programming undertaking known as Country Music Television (CMT).
From that page, I think it can be reasonably assumed that the official name is "Country Music Television", not "Country Music Television Canada". So, my "third opinion" is that the title of this article should be "Country Music Television (Canada)" instead of "Country Music Television Canada".
I hope this opinion will have been helpful. --Edcolins 10:49, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with Edcolins. Thanks for the research. Fagstein 08:00, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
