President of the State of Palestine

[edit]

Night w made one controversial edit [1] where he replaces "President of the State of Palestine" with "President of Palestine".

[2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9]. All of these are from official websites of governments that received greetings from the "President of the State of Palestine", etc.

Here [10] we have the same, but not as "announcement" or "news report", but actually we have a scanned copy of an official document with the signature of the President. It's a document about establishing diplomatic relations between the Dominican Republic and the State of Palestine. And the title under the Palestine signature is "President of the State of Palestine".

All of the above clearly shows that the title is "President of the State of Palestine". Alinor (talk) 13:16, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Night w suggests otherwise with the explanation "the Dominican government is not an "official" source on Palestine" - referring to my explanation to the contrary "using official source, with the signature of the President - instead of unofficial interpretation"[11]. I don't claim that Dominican government is official source on Palestine. I claim that an official document about establishing of diplomatic relations between DR and SoP, published at an official website of one of the two states and signed by their presidents and having the titles of these presidents below their signatures - such document is "official" (for both DR and SoP) and we don't have a reason to doubt that it's a real scan - because it's posted on official website of one of the states. And such document shows the official titles of both presidents. Alinor (talk) 13:34, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What is "too specific" - this is about the Chairman of the PLO-EC. He is not "Chairman of the whole PLO" as the current article title implies. Alinor (talk) 06:03, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]
Any additional comments:
Night w, the article is about the Chairman of the EC of the PLO. It's misleading to term it "Chairman of PLO". The PNC that established the PLO also has a chairman. I know that "Chairman of the PLO" is often used as shorthand for "Chairman of the EC of the PLO", and we should keep it this way as redirect, but the article should be at the correct title Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization. This issue is the same as the "Executive Council" vs. "Executive Committee" - both are often used, but only one of them is correct. Alinor (talk) 14:09, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The current title is simply wrong and WP:PRECISE is no reason to use it. Alinor (talk) 14:45, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lead sentence change

[edit]

Night w reverted a change [12] to the lead with reasoning "revert needless overcomplicating (simple english: executive is superfluous); we don't say the PM of Norway is the leader of the executive of the government of Norway":

  1. The Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (also known as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization) is the leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization which was established in 1964.
  2. The Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization[1] (also known as Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization) is the leader of the executive body of the Palestine Liberation Organization which was established in 1964.

The change to variant2 is needed because the official post title is "Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization" (see source). "executive body of the PLO" (phrase copied from the PLO-EC page) is needed, because this is the chairman of PLO-EC and not of the PNC or PCC - the legislative bodies of the PLO. PLO-EC, PNC and PCC are all institutions of the PLO, but the PLO-EC Chairman is chairman only of the PLO-EC. The other institutions have their own chairman.
