Could someone specify this:

In 1992, the Southern 500 was cut short by rain, preventing Allison from a chance to clinch the million. He had been in contention most of the race.

Which Allison was it?Mustang6172 21:51, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No Bull 5 table

[edit]

I'm working on expanding a table for the No Bull 5 section, showing the drivers eligible for each race. Research is on going. Doctorindy 15:56, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

David Pearson

[edit]

Why have you left David Pearson off of the list? There should be 9 drivers (unless you've left someone else out). He won the 1976 Daytona 500, 1976 Southern 500, 1976 World 600 and three straight Winston 500's 1972, 1973 and 1974. Seems like a Grand Slam to me. 75.109.136.78 (talk) 01:34, 19 June 2008 (UTC) Andrew[reply]

Southern 500

[edit]

Would anybody consider the "revived" Southern 500 as the revival of the Grand Slam, or still not a part of the Grand Slam in a traditional sense? Whammies Were Here 21:35, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. To a degree, we also need to be realistic that the Brickyard is a true Jewel, and realistically ranks with the 600 behind Daytona as the two with the most cha-ching. I'm a traditionalist, so would like to see the 500 at Talladega and the revived Southern 500 at Darlington get the respect they're due. Toshiaki1 (talk) 05:44, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Winston 500 (Talladega)

[edit]

In the list of racers needing wins for the Grand Slam, there seems to be some confusion on the list between the Talladega races. The current 500 is the heir to thw Winston 500. It's pretty clear if you look at credit in the Million being given to the EA Sports 500. In other words, Jimmie Johnson still needs to win the 500 at Talladega (rather than the 499) to win the Grand Slam. Gordon also won the Grand Slam when taking the 500 at Talladega in 2007, rather than the reference of him winning each race multiple times. Actually, someone should create a Slam page, and asterick the Brickyard as being the equivilent of a 5th Jewel. Toshiaki1 (talk) 05:40, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Crown Jewels

[edit]

I have removed Talladega from the Crown Jewels as no reliable sources accept it as such, furthermore NASCAR does not recognize it.

I have also changed the 2021 to present to exclude the Indy RC since it also is not recognized as a jewel per any RS. --KD0710 (talk) 15:52, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Talladega was recognized as a Crown Jewel by RJ Reynolds, which served as the premise for the Winston Million. United States Man (talk) 03:58, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

But was it recognized by the sanctioning body? KD0710 (talk) 22:23, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it was. United States Man (talk) 22:31, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Further RJ has been out of the sport for nearly 20 years. What they view as a crown jewel is irrelevant since they left. KD0710 (talk) 22:32, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide an RS that shows Talladega as a current crown jewel (since 2004). I have not seen it labeled as such nor does NASCAR recognize it as such. KD0710 (talk) 22:33, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Current sources all leave out Talledega, including NASCAR's own site [1], seems like other reliable sources are still calling Indy a crown jewel as a road course [2]. I propose that Talladega is removed post-sponsorship. glman (talk) 19:16, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Working on Rewrite

[edit]

Going to begin a rewrite of this page! It heavily focuses on the short period of the Winston Million, but the concept has existed for some time. We need more references! If you find any, drop them here. I would especially love any that talk about these events before the bonus. At one point the article says they were referred to as the "Triple Crown", but I have found no sources yet. glman (talk) 20:10, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
