Locales section too long
[edit]It seems to me these long quotes from interviews made sense before the game was released but are now redundant. This paragraph could be summed up in a few lines and the interviews simply linked to. Thoughts? Mezigue (talk) 09:38, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
- Since I have had no feedback on this whatsoever I have now rewritten the section. Mezigue (talk) 09:56, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Magnussen paradox ?:Don't mind the spelling errors (im dutch).Reading through the paragraphs i found something i didnt understand. Why does a magnussen device explodes as soon as gorden freeman hits it, and why doesn't it go of when combine troops shoot at it(it falls of harmlessly) I thought that gorden freeman is armed with combine weaponary he looted from their corpses ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.67.185.226 (talk) 12:01, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Not sure what you are on about. I see nothing ambiguous in the article - what's that about "falling harmlessly"? It doesn't say this anywhere. Mezigue (talk) 17:33, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
GAN on hold
[edit]- Woah...personally I'm not a big fan of stacks of quoting like at the start (especially at the start) of the gameplay section...merge that into text and add your own words around it...
- There's something similar in Setting (best to check the article throughout for this sort of thing :).
- Who are Robin Walker and Erik Johnson? - their roles aren't explained the first time they're named
- "being sort of a non-human character." - somewhat is probably a better word than sort of
- It feels like there are too many images...are they all needed?
- "An interview with PC Gamer magazine..." - no refs for this interview?
- "Because the technology used was the same for both games" - try to avoid starting a sentence with because...best to reword the whole sentence
- "that mentioned Episode Two would be released" - sounds odd...perhaps "stating that..."
- Reception section could do with significant expansion, esp. considering the number of reviews there...
Leave me a note when done and I'll take another look (please don't strike)...cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 10:22, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think I've addressed all concerns. Gary King (talk) 17:01, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Notes on the expanded reception section...
- "Despite this, the review from IGN also commented," - "He also commented" would work just as well...(if not better!)
Hmm...and generally looks good... yeah, should be able to pass this soon. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 09:49, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- Done, and also went ahead to do some general copyediting. Gary King (talk) 15:19, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- And passed! dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 12:52, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
- Congratulations! Nice work, all. What do you think about this proposal? clicketyclickyaketyyak 14:10, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
- And passed! dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 12:52, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
One minor issue: the reference tag for citation #31 at the end is producing an error. Dr. Cash (talk) 15:37, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed that, seems to be something to do with NYT not being built into the {{VG Reviews}}. Rehevkor (talk) 16:00, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Bush Reference?
[edit]During the "Antlion defense" portion of the game, one of the two rebels assisting you states that they "may have 'mis-underestimated'" the creatures in question. From what I remember, the term "mis-underestimated" is often considered a Bushism. Could the character's use of the term be a not-so-subtle reference to this? 216.236.163.21 (talk) 02:40, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- It definitely is. Not sure it's worthy of a mention though. Mezigue (talk) 09:00, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- Nope. Not worthy of a mention. Not relevant to gameplay. Jo7hs2 (talk) 23:06, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
The location of Half-life
[edit]"The exact location remains vague, with signs in Bulgarian still hinting at a generic Eastern European setting, although gas pumps with the prices displayed in Finnish and Swedish have added to the confusion."
Remember in episode one, where you are in the hospital? I remember seeing some European signs also. I don't know what language it was, so I don't think I should mention this in the article, so if anyone plays the game again, or remembers what language it was in....please mention it sometime....? 75.72.213.199 (talk) 01:03, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well even in the original Half-Life, most of the signs in Cyrillic were actually in Bulgarian, so it's fairly safe to assume that most of the signs in the game are. Guess we really do count as a generic Eastern European country, huh? --85.187.42.190 (talk) 13:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Signs are most definitely not in Bulgarian, but in Russian. The Bulgarian word for "mine" is "мина". However, signs in the game use the Russian word "шахта" Óðinn (talk) 02:28, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- So, if one were to make an educated guess regarding the location, Karelia would be the best candidate. Part of it is in Russia, another part is in Finland, which would explain the signs in Finnish and Swedish. Óðinn (talk) 02:35, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- Guess anything you want in your head, but don't put it in the article because it is speculation. The game is simply not set anywhere precise... Mezigue (talk) 13:20, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- Wouldn't it be set in Ukraine? Russian is used there, and if you look up Odessa, Ukraine, there are similiarities to Half-Life 2. Also, New Little Odessa might hint at the location. I'm not saying it's true, these are just my thoughts. I am not spy (talk) 15:43, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- I wouldn't read too much into the language on random background signs. Valve used a wide variety of source material and I doubt they cared very much precisely where it came from. The departures board at the start of HL2 is in French! --Tom Edwards (talk) 21:57, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Given that some type of forced migration is in progress by the combine against the human race, it would make sense that signs in multiple languages are present in a concentration area for people formerly from other regions. The location cannot be deduced from the language of signs in game alone.98.240.67.27 (talk) 01:59, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Retail standalone
[edit]Is that referring to Half Life 2: Episode Pack? Can it be really called standalone if it's bundled with Episode One and HL2: Deathmatch? Also it's not retail only, it's released on Steam. --Mika1h (talk) 16:53, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
Valve Task Force Re-vitalization
[edit] Attention, all contributors to the Valve Task Force and the articles it constitutes!
I am here to announce that I will be re-vitalizing the Valve Task Force, aimed at universally improving articles constituting Valve Corporation, their employees, associates and products. This specific task force has been dormant for quite some time and with two very notable releases coming out this year, I feel like this is the appropriate time to re-stimulate the general aim of this group. For those who are not already members of the Valve Task Force, feel free to add your name to our members list and contribute to whatever articles you feel your contributions may prove beneficial for. Valve, its products and notable employees have proven to be essential to the progression of the video game industry, so I'd like to make a call of arms for this cause. Half-Life COMPLETE?!
[edit]Shouldn't we note something about Valve making Half-Life through HL2E2 a "Complete" set? Seems like they gave up on HL's universe...
(If it were a SET, would be less worrying.)

- That package has been called "Half-Life Complete" since the early days of Steam, even before HL2E2.. Before HL2E1 even. -- ferret (talk) 01:26, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, that's what it was? For a second, I thought this was important. Sheesh…
- For now, we should wait for Valve to finish their current projects. —017Bluefield (talk) 01:35, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- "Gabe Newell reasons that rather than force fans to wait another six years for a full sequel, Valve Corporation would release the game in episodic installments."
- Now, today only eight days remain until another six years will have passed after the relase of Episode 2 on October 10th, 2007. I'd say we can expect Episode 3 to be released within one week now. I am SO excited!
- I just hope Gabe Newell wasn't bullshitting us. --136.8.33.68 (talk) 13:29, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
