Merger proposal

- To not merge on the grounds that the original split was justified on the grounds of length arguments that still hold; possibilities for other articles or splits, or article expansion, remain open. Klbrain (talk) 09:03, 12 November 2022 (UTC)
I was curious to see if we want to merge the "Hendrick Motorsports Car No. 24" article (which was split from the main Hendrick Motorsports article into its own in 2019) into this article, "Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series" (which was split from the main Hendrick Motorsports article into its own in 2021).
I'm guessing the separate article about the No. 24 car was created because it was getting long and made the Hendrick Motorsports article long. IMO, if the No. 24 car has its own article, I think other (possibly more) famous numbers such as the No. 43 and No. 3 cars should also get their own articles but I'd rather merge the info about the No. 24 car into the article about Hendrick Motorsports' Cup Series cars- adding the info about the No. 24 car won't make it a whole lot longer.

- I can understand both sides of the debate. On the one hand, much of the information in Hendrick Motorsports Car No. 24 could also be used in NASCAR Cup Series career of Jeff Gordon if it is not already. On the other hand, some of the most iconic rides in NASCAR are associated with their numbers just as much as their drivers and I can understand the No. 24 being worthy of standing out. In the case of the No. 3, however, I wonder if Kevin Harvick would need to be included as the No. 29 was technically Earnhardt's team. Then in the case of the No. 43, I wonder if such a page would only cover the Petty Enterprises era or if it would include its successors Richard Petty Motorsports and Petty GMS; this would make titling the article a challenge. So these potential issues make me wonder whether creating articles for other famous car numbers is a good idea, and if not, whether the No. 24 is truly worthy of standing alone. If we analyze the history of Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series, we can see they have won 14 championships, four of which came with the No. 24. So yes, I wonder if merging the No. 24 article into the HMS in Cup article is a better idea, as clearly the No. 24 is not unique in making HMS a championship team, or if we would need to consider adding other articles such as a Hendrick Motorsports Car No. 5 or a Hendrick Motorsports Car No. 48. Regardless of what happens, I absolutely believe the Elliott and Byron sections in the No. 24 are in need of expansion. BizarreLoveTriangle (talk) 23:52, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
- I'd disagree with the fact. Primary reason being, the page was split cause the orginal page was bigger in size than the norm, and jamming all the information onto a single article makes it hard to retrieve information for WP visitors and users. GyanKnow contributions?
- I think it should be kept as-is. a.) It's an iconic ride in the series. b.) It has had significant success amongst multiple drivers. c.) It's large enough that re-merging it would create an article that is too large to reasonably navigate.KD0710 (talk) 14:27, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
