The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

[edit]

Is Michiru Oshima really going to be orchestrating music for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess? Someone provided a source [1] but IMDB is user-submitted info, so it isn't really that reliable when it comes to unreleased stuff. Unless someone can provide a (better) reliable and legitimate source, then I'll be happy. TranscendentWarrior 10:53, 8 August 2006

You are correct. Koji Kondo is scoring "Twilight Princess".

I think the reason for this information, was because it was confirmed in a Nintendo Power magazine, that Michiru helped compose the music for the E3 2005 trailer for Twilight Princess - Houratio.

- Correct. It is confirmed in the credits of The Legend of Zeda: Twilight Princess. It also clearly states that she did only the arrangement for the trailer. She didn't do any other score-related work. Koji Kondo is one of three persons to score Twilight Princess. Asking around it seems Oshima was involved with some other Zelda-games as well, but I have yet to find confirmation of this. --Cyhwuhx 11:00, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Potential move to Michiru Oshima?

[edit]

Per two album covers ([2], [3]), Anime News Network ([4]), and Nintendo Power ([5]) Oshima is the correct English spelling. Although the macron will be left in the {{nihongo}} template in the lead, just to note. ~Itzjustdrama ? C 01:14, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, her name is Ōshima, not Oshima. 大 is a long vowel (two morae) pronounced Ō, see wikt:大#Japanese. Sloppy romanizations in English-language publications don't change that; many English publications use sloppy romanizations or leave off diacritics. The Nintendo Power site you linked also misspells Kōji Kondō's name. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 01:18, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, you know better than I do. :) ~Itzjustdrama ? C 01:29, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No worries...Latin script transliterations of non-Latin words are always a mess, and outside of Wikipedia (and even inside) there's not really any standardization. For example, Ōshima's own official website uses "Michiru Oshima". That's because in Latin script, people tend to see all the diacritics (such as macrons) as 'extra' and not necessary...this script wasn't made for dealing with languages that have length contrasts like Japanese, or tone contrasts like Chinese, etc., so Ō and O look like they're more or less the same, even though really they're not. For Wikipedia purposes, since we have the benefit of redirects, we can afford to use the most accurate name possible. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 01:35, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
