Rename
[edit]Any objection to renaming this simply Wadi Hilweh? It would be simpler for readers to understand I think. Onceinawhile (talk) 23:33, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- I have no objection to the name change. The question that I would ask, however, is how the new title will differ from the article Silwan which speaks about the same place? Just a courteous reminder: The current name (City of David - Silwan) was made in September of last year after reaching the conclusion that some of the recent, more controversial issues about the place (i.e. political controversies) should be dealt with in a separate article (City of David - Silwan), while leaving to a different article the city's historical past, as reflected in the accounts of the Hebrew Bible (City of David (historic)). By doing this, we avoided much of the political-historical quagmire which made reading about a historic namesake more difficult.Davidbena (talk) 02:28, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Onceinawhile: In principle there is no problem to rename, it is from the Palestinian perspective, Wadi Hilweh (which redirects to Silwan at present), an area of Silwan, as is Batn al-Hawa (there is an article) or al Bustan (which currently dabs to King's Garden (Jerusalem) but should probably redirect/dab to King's Garden (Silwan) (this is a similar thing to CoD, a historic and a current split). The current name arose due to the lack of a defined area called "City of David" (Elad seems to make it up as it goes along with or without connivance from IsGov) and so that article was split in two, the historic CoD (which could also be considered as "ancient Jerusalem") and this one to cover the modern day version of CoD to the extent that it might differ (due to Israeli practices) from Wadi Hilweh. The main idea is that we should by some means separate the "archaeology" (roughly speaking) from the modern day conflict/dispossession issues in these areas. Over to you :)Selfstudier (talk) 14:20, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

City of David (Silwan) → Wadi Hilweh – This page was created as part of a content split from City of David (archaeological site). This article, as the lead lays out, is about the Wadi Hilweh area, which is where the City of David archaeological site is located. As I understand it, there is also some Israeli settlement in the area and efforts have been made to refer to the entire area as "City of David", but the sources attest that this is simple an attempted rebranding of the Palestinian village/neighborhood known as "Wadi Hilweh" - a name for which this article is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, unlike "City of David", for which the primary topic is, well, ultimately the historic city of Jerusalem, but in a modern sense the archaeological excavation and touristic national park. - Support Of course. Note though, that CoD (historical or Elad version) is not equivalent to Wadi Hilweh.Selfstudier (talk) 16:00, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- Support - common name for the neighborhood, see for example [1], [2]. nableezy - 21:25, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
