Katie Bouman

[edit]
First direct image of a black hole
First direct image of a black hole
  • ... that at the age of 29, imaging scientist Katie Bouman presented her algorithm used in creating the first images of a black hole (pictured)?
Source: "The effort wouldn't have been possible without Katie Bouman, who developed a crucial algorithm that helped devise imaging methods." ([1])

  • Comment: It might be nice to have this on the Main Page while the news is hot, or else on her 30th birthdday (9 May).

Interesting life and achievements, on plenty of sources, no copyvio obvious. We see the image right now on the Main page, so it's soon without image or perhaps on her birthday with it. Nice teamwork! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:35, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but I have two technical questions. In the hook, "imaging scientist" is linked to Imaging science, but in the article, her profession is linked to Computer imaging. Secondly, could you rewrite the hook caption? Perhaps: "First direct image of a black hole, 2015"? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:16, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
  •  Done but I did not mention any year for the caption. The photo was taken in 2017, processed, then published in 2019; this seems too long to include in a caption. feminist (talk) 12:04, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
  • Thank you. Restoring tick per Gerda Arendt's review. Yoninah (talk) 12:43, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

@Yoninah: @Gerda Arendt: @Surtsicna: I'm really sorry, but per discussion at WP:ERRORS I've had to pull this one. It seems from the sources presented there that her algorithm wasn't actually used in producing the picture. As this is a very noteworthy and interesting subject, can we tweak the hook and come up with a version to repromote? Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 06:54, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

New blurb for anyone to review. Gerda Arendt? --- Coffeeandcrumbs 08:37, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
, fine with me, no image I guess, - I removed one "later". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:50, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
