[edit]Since the merger of professional companies in Wellington, Auckland, and Christchurch, New Zealand Opera has been the country's sole professional opera company. The company stages up to three operas a year in Auckland and Wellington and features international as well as New Zealand soloists.

- baritones Iosefa Enari and Teddy Tahu Rhodes
- bass baritones Sir Donald McIntyre, Īnia Te Wīata, and Jonathan Lemalu

- sopranos Frances Alda and Joan Hammond, who were both born in New Zealand but left at a young age
