MSU Interview
Dear Dravecky,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 05:47, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

- No worries. The article was properly deleted as a result of AfD. - Dravecky (talk) 20:12, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Hey Dravecky, would you give the WFRD page a once-over. There is alot of good information, but I don't know exactly where to go to source any of it (VT/NH is kinda out of my area of expertise). Thanks....Neutralhomer • Talk • 19:54, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- I'll be out of pocket this weekend but I'll check it out on Monday. - Dravecky (talk) 20:27, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- I took a whack at the prose and the formatting. Sourcing really will have to wait until Monday. - Dravecky (talk) 20:45, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
AfD and PROD
Hi Dravecky. Back in November/December, you got either an AfD or PROD notification, and it was during one of the template testing project's experiments. If you could go here and leave us some feedback about what you think about the new versions of the templates we tested (there are links to the templates), that would be very useful. (You can also email me at swallingwikimedia.org if you want.) Thanks! Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 19:09, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- Replied. - Dravecky (talk) 20:26, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- I just looked, and it seems that you got delivered the standard template. In any case, if you have thoughts about the new version we tested, then shoot. :) Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 20:57, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at Santorum (disambiguation) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Santorum DAB
Hi,
can you please get to some consensus on the talk page about the wording? You say it has to be your way per MOSDAB, JHunterJ says it doesn't per MOSDAB. Edit summaries clearly are not sufficient to get to a consensus here.
Thanks, Amalthea 23:20, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- The consensus is already long established but the dab page is being tag-teamed by editors whose intent appears to run counter to that consensus. Also, disambiguation pages disambiguate. It's what they do for a living. As Wikipedia is famously "not censored", removing the precise description from the only item in the dab page out of concern that a person seeking out that article might be exposed to a word that triggers some bot's filters is... absurd. That said, I'd rather be creating content than spending more time wading in muck that this whole issue has become. I'll leave the drama to the laser-focused warring sides and the political news media that continues to cover this aspect of the story, making Wikipedia look like fools. - Dravecky (talk) 23:31, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- This is completely unrelated to the DAB page, but related to one of the Santorum pages, Rick Santorum to be exact. Is there anyway to find a link that confirms that Rick Santorum was born in Winchester, Virginia? The local papers around here have mentioned him in their coverage of the 2012 debates, primaries and whatnot, but never mentioned him being born in Winchester. I figure this would be something that would come up in an article since he was born here, but nothing. I am beginning to believe that it might be a long-standing vandalism, but don't want to kick another hornet's nest. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 23:47, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- Out of hand I can find two: 1 2. Don't know if the second is reliable, and they are both very new, i.e. could have copied that factoid from here. Amalthea 23:56, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- First one is CBS, that is about as reliable as it gets. I will add that reference (if you haven't already) to his Wiki page. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 07:19, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
- Well, looks like the page is locked down so I can't edit it. Would you mind adding the CBS one to the sentence about his place of birth in the "Early Life" section and any other reference of it that might come up, please? - Neutralhomer • Talk • 07:21, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
