Thanks! Directly creating articles in mainspace seems to be more convenient than using AfC. IntegerSequences (talk | contribs) 04:58, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

While I appreciate your attempt to improve this article, there were some major problems with the way you went about it. The article when you started was not unsourced. It did lack inline citations and indicators of where in the source particular statements could be found, but the documentation at Template:Unreferenced is extremely clear: Don't add this template to articles that contain even one general reference, bare URL, or citation-containing footnote. A citation is any description of a reliable source that supports any of the article content. The format of the citation and the name of the section heading are not what determines whether a link or citation is a source. (A more appropriate template would have been Template:More citations needed.) Further, the sources you added are very poor -- course notes scraped off of some professor's website, a random arXiv posting from six months ago, ResearchGate are all much lower quality sources than the book that was already there. I've removed two of them as clearly worse than leaving no citation at all. --JBL (talk) 19:00, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. When I opened that article I just had a quick scan on it and I didn't find any sources in the main paragraphs so I put the {{Unreferenced}} template. Next time I must take a look at the bottom of articles.
Since I'm in mainland China I am not very familiar with Google search and other searching methods. When I copied text to the Google search box, this comes out and there are not many good, reliable sources that sufficiently support the statements. WP:RSP states that ResearchGate and arXiv are unreliable and I understand. I also found that in most articles cite academic sources from journal publications or doi. But ResearchGate ranks first in search results, and how can I find ResearchGate publications in doi or other journal websites? It is certain that news and media sites will not publish these contents, and the subject only has a little chance to be included by secondary source. I'm stuck. Please give me some advice about finding sources. IntegerSequences (talk | contribs) 09:00, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi IntegerSequences,
The following doesn't exactly answer your question directly. For an article like Prime power, where all of the present content is classical (well established results, many dating to the 19th century), the natural place to look for sources is in high quality textbooks, rather than internet searches or research papers. If I were trying to add sources to that article, I would start by looking at the textbooks I own on abstract algebra and number theory and seeing what they have to say. I'm a professional mathematician, so I have a lot of math books already sitting around my home and office; if I weren't, I might instead see what relevant textbooks were available at my local library or via Google Books. In particular, it seems like it would be natural to look at the book that was already listed as a reference in the article (Elementary Number Theory by Jones and Jones).
Happy editing, JBL (talk) 18:12, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. From your above discussion I understand why a single source can support the article. I also noted that mathematics articles are largely professional work. Professional mathematicians must have found much better sources than I did. It may be hard to improve a well-established mathematics article, and we should respect those classic theorems and mathematicians' work. Control copyright icon Hello IntegerSequences! Your additions to Draft:Logic Masters India have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 13:39, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I know, but I want to copy-paste these contents into Wikipedia first, then describe these in my own words that is more convenient (I don't need to frequently switch the tabs). IntegerSequences (talk | contribs) 13:46, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
