Canadian art

Thank you for quality articles about Canadian artists and curators, based on scientific expertise, such as Nancy Dillow, Walter Yarwood and Sybille Pantazzi, for adopting our many written and unwritten rulez of editing fast and willing, - Joan, you are an awesome Wikipedian!

You are recipient no. 2441 of Precious, a prize of QAI. It's a pleasure to meet you. Consider to have your work presented on the Main page in the DYK section, - just ping me for the next one you write, - it has to be nominated within a week after creation or substantial expansion. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:01, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I will. I have a new article up on William R. Watson, just finished.Joan arden murray (talk) 12:04, 10 September 2020 (UTC)@Gerda Arendt:[reply]
Great. I looked briefly, and as if you didn't get enough rulez, some more:
  • The lead is a summary, no reference is needed there unless it's something not covered later, or a quote. I moved the ref to his birthplace. Please check.
  • Try to have references in ascending order.
  • A recommendation: avoid one-sentence paragraphs.
I'll take a closer look after nominating another one in my pipeline, - see my user page. Should we use what he is known for as a "hook", or do you see something especially "hooky". If so, let me know, and have a reference right after the fact. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:47, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
One more recommendation, to avoid a confusing edit history: you could do one of two things, work in a general sandbox and then copy/paste to article space (which is good if you are the only editor and don't need to know later when exactly you changed what), or begin in a dedicated draft article, which can be deleted after you moved to article space. Moving twice is needlessly complicated for others to understand. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:51, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for William R. Watson

[edit]

On 24 September 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article William R. Watson, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that when William R. Watson retired from his gallery for contemporary art in Montreal, one of his artists wrote: "You have known, and been a good friend to nearly all the artists"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/William R. Watson. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, William R. Watson), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Missing cite in Dorothy Cameron Bloore

[edit]

The article cites "catalogue 1993" but no such source is listed in bibliography. Can you please add? Also, suggest installing a script to highlight such errors in the future. All you need to do is copy and paste importScript('User:Svick/HarvErrors.js'); // Backlink: [[User:Svick/HarvErrors.js]] to your common.js page. Quick lint errors

[edit]

When you created a bunch of infoboxes for canadian artists last month (btw, thanks!), the infobox template you copied always missed "| awards =" and instead just had "| awards", which created a lot of invalid parameters. I'm trying to fix the invalid parameters, and although it is minor, make sure to double-check that your copy-paste template has all the base parameters correct. Thanks again for doing the task though! :) Sennecaster (What now?) 15:52, 16 April 2021 (UTC) Yes, I will. Information icon Hello, Joan arden murray. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Joan Murray (art historian), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Rita Letendre

[edit]
  • Thanks for the Xmas wishes! Just getting to this in February - lol. The list looks pretty good and includes all of the major catalogs I have on hand - I have a bunch of the Gevik catalogs, but they tend to be small so not sure if you want to consider them "major". There was one pretty nice catalog from Simon Blais - here is the reference in case you want to dig it up: ASSELIN, Hedwidge, Rita Letendre : Les éléments/The Elements, Montréal, Éditions Simon Blais, 2001, 64 pp. which is probably worth including in the major catalog list. The Palm Springs Desert Museum had a nice little catalog that I wouldn't consider "major" either but has a nice forward by Gilles Henault and four or five critical reviews of her work - we could pop that one up a level in my estimation. I will edit the page to include these in that first list but feel free to edit as you see fit :) I found one more catalog in my library that is likely of interest - the show catalog was small but it was a public show called "Le feu et L'Esprit" (translates to 'fire and spirit') at the Musee d'art Contemparion de Baie St-Paul (formerly Centre d'exposition de Baie-Saint-Paul) I will add that to the "other" list - cheers! Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Missvain (talk) 00:37, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Joan arden murray

Thank you for creating Henri Masson (artist).

User:Netherzone, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Thank you for creating this article. It can be improved by adding more inline citations. He is notable, as he is in Benezit, but I think the article needs more verification of important collections where his work is held. Mostly what I can find are auction sites, but they do not contribute to notability.

Hi! Thank you for your work adding infoboxes to articles. I just wanted to let you know that I've had to edit a few of them as field and elected aren't parameters included in Template:Infobox person and cause error messages when previewing articles. Also nationalities shouldn't have wikilinks as per MOS:OVERLINK. Thanks again, Suonii180 (talk) 12:36, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Joan arden murray! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at George Hunter (photographer) that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. I was taught to remove non-existent links. If you put the links back, are you waiting for wikipedia articles someday? It's okay with me if you are.Joan arden murray (talk) 20:46, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good article BTW!Joan arden murray (talk) 20:57, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. From the guideline I linked above: "Red links help Wikipedia grow" and "In general, a red link should remain in an article if it links to a title that could plausibly sustain an article". I believe these are all notable topics, so I think they should remain linked. Of course they're all open to discussion! But please explain why you think the topic is non-notable when you remove a red link. pburka (talk) 21:11, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Uncited info in comics creator articles

[edit]

Hi. Please do not add uncited material to Wikipedia articles, as you did with this edit to Chrissie Zullo. Since you've accumulated over 27,000 edits here since 2019, you may have learned that Wikipedia requires that the material in its articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable (usually secondary) sources explicitly cited in the article text in the form of an inline citation, as described here. Although there is a citation for her birthplace it in the article, it does not specify the city. If you'd like to talk, just let me know by leaving a message for me in a new section at the bottom of my talk page. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 15:16, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The above also applies to your edits in other comics creator articles, such as this edit to Steve McNiven. The cited source in the McNiven article does not specify that he was born in Halifax. Nightscream (talk) 15:49, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Edward Roper (artist)

[edit]

Hello Joan - I've come across the article for Edward Roper (artist) this morning and its problems with dates, and the conflicting information between the Canadian Encyclopedia and the Design & Art Australia references. Based on the depth of information between the two, I suggest that you go with the Australian source rather than the Canadian Encylopedia. As it is, the dates just don't line up in the article. Unless Mr. Roper mastered time travel, of course :) .......Regards, PKT(alk) 12:57, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I will remember to do better. Joan arden murray (talk) 14:14, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I appreciate your efforts in covering Canadian art. I briefly look into several of your articles and to my judgement they are of good quality. Therefore I am a bit surprized with "Stephen Livick:. You are probably already familiar with Wikipedia notability guidelines. Basically the requirement is that article subject must be covered in detail in reliable sources independent from the subject. References to galleries and collections are not independent. You need references from well-known art critics such as you :-). I am afraid this article will not survive AfD. - Altenmann >talk 02:34, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your kind reminder. I may have material coming in that will help. Best! Joan Murray Joan arden murray (talk) 21:24, 16 July 2024 (UTC) I checked the Wikipedia guidelines and found "represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums" which I enhanced. He really was a well-known photographer. Thank you again, Joan MurrayJoan arden murray (talk) 17:39, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:42, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
