Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open
Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:05, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Sahagin page
Is it ok if you copy-paste the original text of the Sahagin page here? I want to reuse it for a wiki project I'm working on at finalfantasywiki.com. 2005-Fan (talk) 18:30, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
- @2005-Fan: I can't do that because there are way too many revisions, and it would violate our terms of use; you must attribute any reuse of the text in accordance with the terms of the Creative Commons license. Since it was an uncontroversial deletion, I've restored it. In the future, I'll be unwilling to restore pages or provide their text so you can use them elsewhere. I don't consider those to be reasonable requests. I'm an administrator here. The point is to improve pages here. I'll be watching this one to see what you do with it. 2020 CUOS appointments
Hi Katie. I'm not going to get hung up about this, but was my edit really a mess? When reading the requirements for the role, should the prerequisite of being an admin come first? It makes all the other requirements redudant up to that step. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:59, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Lugnuts: Maybe so, but that's the text we all agreed to, so that's the text we're gonna go with. I'll make the copyedit for next year's round. Fair enough? Katietalk 14:06, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Safehaven86
Hi Katie, I hope you're doing well. This is a bit of the blast from the past, but do you happen to know who Safehaven86's sockmaster or other socks were? I see you CU-blocked them a few years ago, I had an editor privately express concern that a currently-active editor might be them, just trying to gather all the information I can before deciding whether to open an SPI. GeneralNotability (talk) 13:46, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- @GeneralNotability: Wow, that is a blast from the past. That was a request for a look from the scrutineers during ACE2016. I can't remember who came first, but the other account that voted along with Safehaven86 is Champaign Supernova. Pretty sure those were the only two in that group. I can't give you anything else because it's obvs all way stale and afaik we didn't detect anything more from them, nor did we get any appeal that I'm aware of. Katietalk 14:00, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

- Sysops will be able to use Special:CreateLocalAccount to create a local account for a global user that is prevented from auto-creation locally (such as by a filter or range block). Administrators that are not sure if such a creation is appropriate should contact a checkuser.

Arbitration Election
Hi! I noticed you've been elected to the Arbitration committee a few times, and I'm looking to vote in the 2020 election. I voted in the real life election too. I have 207 mainspace edits and joined almost a year ago (December 21, 2019). Is there a link to the voting for when voting opens up? Dswitz10734 (talk) 16:50, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Dswitz10734: You can find information about the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections, including dates and eligibility requirements for voters and candidates, at WP:ACE2020. Good for you for voting in the actual 2020 elections. :-) Katietalk 20:18, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Katie,
I am attempting to make edits to Marc Morial's page. All of the edits I made were undone and I learned that I shouldn't just edit but request edits on the talk page. I would like to go about doing this the correct way. I put an edit in on his talk page with a request to edit. I would just like to know if I did it correctly before doing any more. May you please advise me about this?
I've also read that COI editing is frowned upon. I have updated my user page to disclose that I am a paid editor by the National Urban League (Marc Morial is the president). I would like to do this in the most legal and acceptable way possible.
My main goal is to update his page with info and events that have happened since the page was last updated years ago. I appreciate any help you can give for this. I have plenty of sources and am not looking to cover up any controversies or opinions. Just strictly post what is fact and sourceable about him.
Thank you very much. Nicolehardesty (talk) 18:40, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Nicolehardesty: This is an encyclopedia, not a promo vehicle to describe his 'creativity' and how many commencement speeches he's made. If that's the kind of thing you want to add back, it will be declined. Either you get that this is a reference work or you don't. Sorry if that's too blunt, but in my experience, paid editors want glossy PR pieces and don't want to let their subjects stand simply on the basis of what they've done without flowery prose and embellishment. Katietalk 18:21, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
@KrakatoaKatie: No not too blunt. That is actually very helpful! I didn't realize how much PR lingo I put in there. I would definitely like to get this done the correct and in an acceptable way. Thank you for that feedback, I will begin to look at edits from that view. I do have a question, I see how to request edits to change existing things in the article. Is there a way to go about submitting new information all together or new sections? Thank you for your help! Nicolehardesty (talk) 18:33, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Nicolehardesty: Glad that's helpful. The advice that Seagull123 gave you is on point – say things like 'add (this sentence) after (that sentence)', or 'change (this word or sentence) to (that word or sentence)'. Be very specific and make your proposals one by one. And be patient, because the requested edits queue is quite long. Katietalk 19:47, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
@Nicolehardesty: thank you! Nicolehardesty (talk) 20:16, 6 November 2020 (UTC)

- @Jehochman: Thanks very much. Belt sanders are tools of the devil. They look innocent enough, but nooooo. You want to smooth out just a little portion of that board and you turn the thing on and next thing you know you've got a ditch the size of the Grand Canyon in your nice piece of oak and the momentum of the thing has dragged you off into eastern New Mexico.
