Venetian Ionian Islands

Hello! First off, a very impressive piece of work, I can hardly commend it enough. I don't know of any English-language history of the Ionian islands under Venetian rule, but if you can read Greek, the History of the Hellenic Nation (Ιστορία του ελληνικού έθνους) compiled by the Academy of Athens and Vakalopoulos' History of modern Hellenism (Ιστορία του νέου ελληνισμού), which has been translated into English as well, ought to have useful information. On history, at least the Ottoman attacks, especially on Corfu, the final dissolution of the Venetian control and some short aftermath section would be required. Some more details on the administrative/social structure of islands and on the cultural impact of the Italian Renaissance in music and art would also be necessary to make the article comprehensive. Ciao! First, compliments for the excellent, thoroughly article. Second, I am not an administrator so I cannot help you too much... As for the naming, anyway, in my point of view the name change is not so harmful (i.e., fortunately they didn't change them into something like "Croatian islands which only for a short time were under Venetian rule" :D). Finally, did you ever stumble in History of the Venetian Republic? I think it needs far more details since its unabalancedly large for some period, and sketchy for others. It's much easier for me which points you raised questions about, and it keeps everything together in a nice organised package! I have it watchlisted. Assuming the IP was you, then per bullet point

• Whoops, sorry about that. No idea what happened. Anyway, looking at it again, if the invasions have any particular relevance to Venice at the time it controlled the Ionian Islands, then it should be explained. If the only relation is the fall of the Western Roman Empire, just mention the fall in order to simplify the text.
• If the sources don't have a list and no source names a particular treaty as the most important or something like that, I'd remove the example.
• If a section is about the history of the treaties, I'd assume it belongs under history. However, if there's a special reason that you haven't included it in history then there's no distinct need to.
• If you can't find them, I suppose you can't put them in. Pity. Perhaps there's a mention of what administrative division of the Ottoman Empire they were part of?
• Can't answer this bullet point, because ironically, I wish to know which point are you referring to? :)

Anyway, as that last bullet point proved, it'd be much easier if you replied in the Peer Review page itself! As for my suggestions, keep in mind I'm simply an interested third party, and all my points are simply suggestions, which you can take, leave, or modify at your discretion. I agree with the other comments above; an excellent article which is at least worth GA status. I've made a few copy-edits. I don't have time for a formal review, but here are some other comments:

• "Corfu was the only island that escaped Ottoman occupation" – "escaped" takes an un-necessary position; stating facts is better, e.g. "Corfu was the only island not occupied by the Ottomans"

• "It is believed that the Venetian period on the Islands was agreeable" – believed by whom? "agreeable" – is this the word in the source? If not, it seems odd to me.

• "doge Pietro Ziani" – the title "doge" is inconsistently capitalized in the article; a capital here seems better to me, but it should be consistent. (Note the difference between the correct "his admiral Philippe Chinard" which occurs later and "Admiral Philippe Chinard".)

• "two years after the beginning of the Turkish rule, Antonio Tocco invaded and briefly occupied Cephalonia and Zante but he was soon driven out by the Venetians" – although the name "Antonio Tocco" is mentioned before, it's not clear to me, as a reader and non-specialist in this subject, who he is and where he was from. Clarify?

• "The French rule, however, did not last as ..." – I think that "however" is a bit over-used from this point onwards. I do it myself, as it makes for a more interesting, more explanatory style, but as Wikipedia:EDITORIAL#Editorializing notes it can introduce an editorial point. Here it seems that it could just be omitted. I suggest checking all uses of this word and omitting unless really necessary for the sense.

• "In Corfu the Venetian officials included ..." – capitalization of titles seems inconsistent in this paragraph.

• "Nevertheless, raisin exports ..." – Wikilink "raisin"; also switches to "currant" without explanation.

• "These two were the main factors in the decline of Roman Catholicism in the Islands." – which two? There are three in the preceding two sentences: accepting the Catholics as their superiors, placing the interests of the Republic ahead of those of the Papacy and mixed marriages.

• "who recall it with a shade of nostalgia" – I would explicitly source this to Zorzi in the text as it's very much an opinion.

• "In the Greek Census of 1907, 4,675 people from the Ionian Islands stated Italian as their mother tongue" – do we know what proportion this was? (Routine calculations are allowed so it could be calculated if the total population is known.)

• Ideally all non-English words and phrases should be enclosed in a {{lang}} template so that text reading software knows that they need pronouncing differently.
