Hurricane timeline color key

[edit]

Hey, I saw your partial reversions of my "Timeline of the 200X Atlantic hurricane season" article edits, and I don't really have a problem with them, however I would like to get a copy of the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale color key up with the graphical timeline. When I first went to the article I couldn't figure out what the different colors represented until I stumbled on the key at the bottom of the article, which is why I originally tried moving up the "season buttons" templates. Is there a good way we can get the Template:Hurricane season bar end key showing what those colors mean into or next to the graphical timeline? -- HiEv 02:40, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I added a legend to the graphical timeline in Timeline of the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season. Let me know what you think. If it looks good I'll update 2005-2007 the same way. -- HiEv 08:08, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, glad you liked it. I've updated 2005-2007 the same way. -- HiEv 01:14, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey. Any idea what a "severe tropical storm" is? I was adding legends to other graphical timelines, and for Timeline of the 2006 Pacific typhoon season and Timeline of the 2007 Pacific typhoon season both have "Tropical Storm" and "Severe Tropical Storm" items, like Severe Tropical Storm Bilis. Are they a tropical storm with some other factor that brings them up to "severe"? Anyways, those two articles need the legend for "Severe Tropical Storm" explained. I just left a question mark because I couldn't figure it out and it's not mentioned in the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale article. -- HiEv 05:29, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for adding information on the 11pm advisory of PAGASA on Typhoon Mitag (Mina)

[edit]

For the first time since I have announced of PAGASA bulletins be cited on the 2007 Pacific typhoon season page, I have met by a man who did that so. (And that's you!) But take my sincerest apologies if I have to correct something about the gusts of Typhoon Mina, that is for the sake of accuracy of information. According to the 11p.m. advisory of PAGASA (See it here), it is said that it has gusts of 195kph. Despite this, I would still say THANK YOU to you. If you have anything to say, contact me at my talk page. -Pika ten10 (talk) 15:59, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. I thought you were the one who edited the "Current Storm Infomation" section of TY Mitag (Mina), in which I requested for an update on the typhoon from PAGASA. -Pika ten10 (talk) 16:07, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Rotorseconddesign.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Rotorseconddesign.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Japanese titles on Super Mario Galaxy

[edit]

Hi RattleMan,

So I tried to fit a full explanation into my edit summary, but sadly I've been foiled by WP:Twinkle. At any rate, I've reverted your readdition of the {{nihongo}} template to the article above, as it is against the current consensus. There was a good bit of discussion about this starting in this thread on the article talk page before moving to this thread on the VG project page. This discussion resulted in these style guidelines, which notes among other things that articles about games where the Japanese/English titles are just phonetic translations of each other should not contain the Japanese title of that game.

Sorry to bug you; please let me know if you have any questions! --jonny-mt(t)(c)I'm on editor review! 15:08, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Erin dissipation date

[edit]

Whoa there on the Erin dissipation date. A tropical cyclone has not dissipated unless one of the national centers (NHC or HPC) no longer considers it a tropical cyclone. NHC normally follows HPC lead on these matters for inland tropical cyclones, regardless of the additional complexity involving Erin over Oklahoma. Last NHC advisory does not mean dissipation of a tropical cyclone which makes landfall in the lower 48, unless the advisory itself states dissipation. Remember, HPC advisories cover tropical cyclones and their remnants...NHC only hands them over to HPC if they are not expected to emerge back into water as a tropical cyclone in the near future. Basically, this means when NHC hands off a system to HPC, HPC becomes the RSMC in lieu of NHC. HPC is officially NHC's backup for tropical cyclone advisories as well. As far as the public and media are concerned, an HPC advisory has the same relevance as an NHC advisory, since they share the same header and numbering. Ultimately, this is another issue the TCR will clear up. Oy. Thegreatdr (talk) 01:24, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cool. The change is made. Unlike Erin's nomenclature over Oklahoma, this falls under clearer standard NWS practices. Thegreatdr (talk) 01:53, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for reverting your edit, I had mistaken it for vandalism! Poeloq (talk) 10:47, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's through emulation, so it could be a bit different to the original, though it is also the Genesis version, and I've only played the MegaDrive version, but I know there's no rings in that one; because I always got stressed because debug didn't have rings!  Doktor  Wilhelm  09:55, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Chaos Emeralds

[edit]

An editor has nominated Chaos Emeralds, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chaos Emeralds and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 16:20, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rickroll & "over 9 million"

[edit]

I certainly wasn't; the "over 9 million" number is the combined total number of views for the two most popular YouTube versions of the clip; one has a little over 5 million and the other has over 4 million. The coincidence of this with the "over 9000" meme is somewhat unfortunate in this case since "over 9 million" is literally true. InnocuousPseudonym (talk) 05:39, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've been working on the Tropical cyclone WikiProject for almost four years now and I know that at times it can be pretty draining. Hurricanehink and I started a fun little thing two years ago called the Hurricane Hall of Fame (based on a concept I'd created much earlier). It works just like any other Hall of Fame: every year, five storms are voted in based on notability. Up until now, the voters were just me and Hink and the honorees were just Atlantic storms. Both of those are changing (hopefully). I'm trying to get more Project members involved in the voting and I'm going international this year. This ballot is for the Tropical cyclone basins#Northeastern Pacific Ocean. Following this election, I'll send out ballots for the Western Pacific and then perhaps the Indian Ocean...all leading up to the Atlantic ballot early this summer. I'd really appreciate your participation. It's just for fun; something to lower stress levels. I'll announce the winners next weekend. The nominees are...

  • 1939 Long Beach Tropical Storm - Only tropical storm to make landfall in California in the 20th Century, killed in excess of 40 people at sea and in floods.
  • 1959 Mexico Hurricane - deadliest Eastern Pacific storm in history, 1000-1800 dead.
  • Hurricane Tara - killed over 500 people in floods in central Mexico.
  • Hurricane Liza - over 600 people were killed in devastating floods in Baja California.
  • Hurricane Paul - slow-moving storm left over 1000 dead in Central America.
  • Hurricane Iniki - most damaging hurricane in Hawaii's history, causing $2.6 billion in uninflated damage.
  • Hurricane John - longest lived tropical cyclone ever recorded worldwide; 31 days.
  • Hurricane Ismael - caused devastating flooding that killed 116 people in Mexico.
  • Hurricane Linda - strongest Eastern Pacific storm ever recorded.
  • Hurricane Pauline - devastated Mexico, killing 230 people and causing $7.5 billion in damage.
  • Choose three of these that you most want in. Post your votes on my talk page. The five top vote-getters will be inducted.

HA! That's pretty clever. Can't say I agree with one of them but okay. My code has a lot of moving parts but you're familiar with the big database, which helps. The best hint I can give is pretty crappy: 102 and *EH*SS5*O592 are the same storm. -- §HurricaneERICarchive 02:47, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:ScratchGrounder.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ScratchGrounder.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Re: Nargis 2008 track.png

[edit]

Well, I can do maps using HNSKY, a freeware. HNSKY is a freeware planetarium program and it has a option to fix some additional stars, informing latitude and longitude. The program also has a option of using a world map as background. Then, the new stars are points on a world map background and the new map can be used as a tropical cyclone track map. Free software screenshots are permitted on Commons. On an image editor, I colour the map and it is OK for usage. Therefore, Nargis's track map.png is almost made manually (my grammar was probably quite poor because I'm not a native speaker of English) -Ramisses (talk) 16:23, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bokkun.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --21:08, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Burma/Myanmar

[edit]

Hi Rattleman. I notice you indicated a preference on the survey I had put out on the discussion page. Thought I'd let you know I've removed it until we know where the article ends up. It still appears to be on the move! Regards. --Regents Park (Feed my swans) 02:17, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tables

[edit]

I noticed some of your work on other tables. {{Infobox Hurricane Small}} and {{Infobox hurricane small}} render quite differently in IE. I think it would help to use another class, like infobox. Do you know how to use it? Potapych (talk) 23:04, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Template:IMDclassification

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:IMDclassification requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 20:49, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SADXPC-Metal.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SADXPC-Metal.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:18, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
