Administrators' newsletter – October 2017
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2017).
- Boing! said Zebedee • Ansh666 • Ad Orientem
- Tonywalton • AmiDaniel • Silence • BanyanTree • Magioladitis • Vanamonde93 • Mr.Z-man • Jdavidb • Jakec • Ram-Man • Yelyos • Kurt Shaped Box
- Following a successful proposal to create it, a new user right called "edit filter helper" is now assignable and revocable by administrators. The right allows non-administrators to view the details of private edit filters, but not to edit them.
- Following a discussion about mass-application of ECP and how the need for logging and other details of an evolving consensus may have been missed by some administrators, a rough guide to extended confirmed protection has been written. This information page describes how the extended-confirmed aspects of the protection policy are currently being applied by administrators.
- You can now search for IP ranges at Special:Contributions. Some log pages and Special:DeletedContributions are not yet supported. Wildcards (e.g. 192.168.0.*) are also not supported, but the popular contribsrange gadget will continue to work.
- Community consultation on the 2017 candidates for CheckUser and Oversight has concluded. The Arbitration Committee will appoint successful candidates by October 11.
- A request for comment is open regarding the structure, rules, and procedures of the December 2017 Arbitration Committee election, and how to resolve any issues not covered by existing rules.
Invitation to discuss the soon to built, Interaction Timeline
Hi Checkusers and Checkuser clerks,
The Anti-Harassment Tools team is seeking input about building the Interaction Timeline feature.
We’re inviting you to join the discussion because you use similar tools such as the Editor Interaction Analyser and User compare report during sockpuppet investigations.
You can leave comments on the on wiki discussion page or send an email to the Anti-Harassment Tools team.

Administrators' newsletter – November 2017
News and updates for administrators from the past month (October 2017).
- Longhair • Megalibrarygirl • TonyBallioni • Vanamonde93
- Allen3 • Eluchil404 • Arthur Rubin • Bencherlite
- The Wikimedia Foundation's Anti-Harassment Tools team is creating an "Interaction Timeline" tool that intends to assist administrators in resolving user conduct disputes. Feedback on the concept may be posted on the talk page.
- A new function is now available to edit filter managers that will make it easier to look for multiple strings containing spoofed text.
- Eligible editors will be invited to submit candidate statements for the 2017 Arbitration Committee Elections starting on November 12 until November 21. Voting will begin on November 27 and last until December 10.
- Following a request for comment, Ritchie333, Yunshui and Ymblanter will serve as the Electoral Commission for the 2017 ArbCom Elections.
- The Wikipedia community has recently learned that Allen3 (William Allen Peckham) passed away on December 30, 2016, the same day as JohnCD. Allen began editing in 2005 and became an administrator that same year.

UTRS Admin Request
'Allo! Could you please take a look at UTRS 19601. Admin action is requested, however I feature prominently in the appeal so I should probably side step this one. Cheers, --Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 19:03, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of my User Page
Hi, this is Roberto1205. I know recently you deleted my page because it wasn't used in the correct way. Is there a way I can make a page for that just to mess around with? Is that what the Sandbox is for? Thanks. -User talk:Roberto1205
- Hi Roberto1205! Your userpage was deleted because its sole purpose was to host a lengthy page of baseball statistics. Wikipedia is not a free web host, but if you would like I can e-mail you a copy of the contents of the page so you can host them elsewhere (just Google "free web host" and you'll find plenty of more appropriate solutions). Arbcom case request notification
You are involved in a recently filed request for arbitration. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case#Mister Wiki and, if you wish to do so, enter your statement and any other material you wish to submit to the Arbitration Committee. As threaded discussion is not permitted in most arbitration pages please ensure that you make all comments in your own section only. Additionally, the guide to arbitration and the Arbitration Committee's procedures may be of use.
Thanks, TonyBallioni (talk) 19:39, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
Case accepted
You were recently listed as a party to a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Conduct of Mister Wiki editors. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Conduct of Mister Wiki editors/Evidence. Please add your evidence by December 15, 2017, which is when the evidence phase closes. You can also contribute to the case workshop subpage, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Conduct of Mister Wiki editors/Workshop. Administrators' newsletter – December 2017
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2017).
- Following a request for comment, a new section has been added to the username policy which disallows usernames containing emoji, emoticons or otherwise "decorative" usernames, and usernames that use any non-language symbols. Administrators should discuss issues related to these types of usernames before blocking.
- Wikimedians are now invited to vote on the proposals in the 2017 Community Wishlist Survey on Meta Wiki until 10 December 2017. In particular, there is a section of the survey regarding new tools for administrators and for anti-harassment.
- A new function is available to edit filter managers which can be used to store matches from regular expressions.
- Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is open until Sunday 23:59, 10 December 2017 (UTC). There are 12 candidates running for 8 vacant seats.
- Over the last few months, several users have reported backlogs that require administrator attention at WP:ANI, with the most common backlogs showing up on WP:SPI, WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. It is requested that all administrators take some time during this month to help clear backlogs wherever possible. It should be noted that AIV reports are not always valid; however, they still need to be cleared, which may include needing to remind users on what qualifies as vandalism.
- The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative is conducting a survey for English Wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works (i.e. which problems it deals with well and which problems it struggles with). If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be emailed to you via Special:EmailUser.
ArbCom 2017 election voter message
Hello, Salvidrim!. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Question
Hi Salv! Hope your Sunday is going well. Quick question somewhat related to the case, but not really sure it would go there. Did you have any contact with Janweh64 regarding Himanshu Khagta? I'm only asking because it looks to be the only AfC article you've accepted since July, and it was also by a declared paid editor. Not an accusation at all, just a question since the answer might be relevant to the case. Thanks in advance. TonyBallioni (talk) 23:40, 10 December 2017 (UTC)
- No contact. The last three AfC drafts I apporoved were in July Billy Christmas (which I had actually been following for years), and in November Himanshu Khagta and Matthías Matthíasson which I both got off the "random" button of CAT:VERYOLD. Ben · Salvidrim! ✉ 23:51, 10 December 2017 (UTC)

Marcus Belby redirect
Thought I might drop a thank you note for putting up Marcus Belby redirect for discussion even if you disagree with it rather than simply revert my edit. Not many people think that if something is put up for deletion, someone feels like there is something not quite right with it, which needs to be resolved one way or another.

Help?
Hi! Is there a Wikipedia template for non-profit membership advocacy organisations?
I don’t code at all and I also don’t know how to structure information because my brain is like that dog from Up! and despite being fairly knowledgeable (in some really weird and niche areas the necessity of which I am uncertain) I am not formally educated (although due to my professional experience in certain areas I qualify for a Masters in Law specialising in Legislative and Statutory Interpretation, Constiutional Law, and Industrial Law at the most prestigious university in my country, which is both weird and cool, and not something I’m ever going to attempt).
Okay, so, as demonstrated above, I can communicate in English, but a template of some sort would be very helpful in forcing me to structure the page.
Any other tips or ongoing support would be greatly appreciated, too!
