The Mean Six were not added in List of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

Why aren't the Mean Six added in List of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic characters? They were the characters. Why removed that? ArdaOnay2004 (talk) 08:55, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't know enough about My Little Pony to answer that. It probably didn't help that you wrote a ton but didn't add a single source. You can look up the WP:PAGEHISTORY to see who removed it, and ask them on their talk page. Sergecross73 msg me 13:06, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

Regarding AlNahyan

If you had a reply to my last message in the thread at Ad Orientem's talk page, it'd be appreciated if you let me know here as he's closed it. I refuse to go to ANI about a user who has been warned by 7+ editors and several of those saying exactly what I'm saying now. Inaction emboldens users like this to keep edit warring, and it looks like they will continue to do so. Why are they "allowed" to get away with edit warring in the absence of some local consensus that won't apply to all the articles they're doing this on anyway? As for what you said about consensuses, the user Ippantekina stated a few days ago at Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style#Wikipedia:The_problem_with_false_titles, "For instance all articles within Wikipedia:WikiProject Taylor Swift follow FALSETITLE, as do recently-promoted FAs of David Bowie albums like The Next Day or Low)", so that's one example of what you were talking about happening... something like a consensus or at least a precedent. Ss112 16:44, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Okay, I'm starting to lose my patience in your inability to approach this with a level head. Let's take a look at your most recent example. You took offense to this edit. We're talking about whether or not the word "the" needs to be in a sentence. Can you really not see how little is at stake with edits "disruption" like this? Its a minor issue that doesn't even meaningfully change the message of the sentence.
And lets zoom out a bit. Here's the page history. The page shows they added added it once, and then reverted it back in twice. So, for the record, we're talking about 2 reverts in 3 days, or 3 edits across 5 days. This is the sort of edit warring you're asking me to unilaterally take action against? And when you are responsible for 2 reverts yourself no less?
And after all that, you have the audacity here to 1) ask me to intervene when you can't even be bothered to start up a talk page discussion about it and 2) accuse me of "emboldening" bad editing when I won't take action?
I have one rule with assisting people on my talk page - and its respecting me and my stances on the matter. You're breaking that. You need to take some time away and cool off so you can start thinking through this with a clear head. Either that, or find another go-to Admin to help you. This is unacceptable, and cannot continue. Sergecross73 msg me 17:05, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Serge, that's only the most recent example of edit warring. Look at AlNahyan's contributions to see their recent reverts of me on other articles the other day. Besides, I didn't ask you to block them. I had hoped AO would after they did this after their "formal warning". I meant in general admin inaction on this type of behaviour emboldens editors like this to keep edit warring in this manner, because that's what AlNahyan has done for months. It's not even about the content anymore—I didn't even add the "the"s there on that article in the first place—it's the edit warring, disregarding WP:BRD and reinstating edits that are disagreed with that I have an issue with. Regardless of what relatively minor thing it's over. If you don't wish for me to keep talking about this, then I won't, or you can archive the discussion. Ss112 17:14, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
I'm done. Find someone else for this one. Sergecross73 msg me 17:16, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

An IP editor reverted my WP:BANREVERT of Pjesnik21... looks like it is Pjesnik21

Hi Serge and @Ferret:. Ferret, you blocked Drolq (talk · contribs) late last month and told me to be on the lookout for more Pjesnik21 socks. While not a registered account, fast forward to today—a couple hours ago, an IP editor reverted me at Jače manijače here, saying "Added by a sock puppet, it is however well-sourced". Looks like Pjesnik21 has been using that range too, 95.156.152.83/16, to edit Charli XCX articles (see my reasoning that that is an artist whose articles they return to here) and other pop music topics since Drolq's block. I'm not sure how narrow or wide the range should be blocked, but this looks a little too coincidental to me. Ss112 14:48, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

This will need be judged behaviorally, I'm not allowed to comment on a given editor being a given IP from a technical goggle view. The clear jump of music related edits in this range the day after Drolq's block seems obvious though. -- ferret (talk) 14:55, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

5ive9teen and Shōgun

Hi Sergecross73, hope everything is well at your side of the world. If you have the time, could take a look at 5ive9teen and their edits to Shōgun (novel)? I've been trying to show them their edits are not helping, to no avail (see User talk:5ive9teen). There is very little communication from them, I suspect language might be an issue. Hey, Serge. Can you protect the Leon S. Kennedy article (perhaps semi-indefinitely)? I'm not sure how blocking a single IP alone helps, but there's another IP. @SergeWoodzing: thanks for calling attention to this. I was the one who filed the initial report that led to the first block. This user has failed to even acknowledge or address any of the talk page posts or the block; instead just blanking, ignoring, and continuing to plow ahead with the same problematic unsourced editing behavior after the original block expired. With all of these factors combined, I agree with you that an indefinite block is warranted here to prevent further disruption, since I see no realistic chance of improvement. For these and other reasons, another eye cast over them would be great. Tokyo RPG Factory and Oninaki are already GA, and I was vaguely thinking it might become a GT, since it's pretty much definitive that there won't be any more games from that studio. Hope all's going well with you. ProtoDrake (talk) 19:03, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi ProtoDrake. So sorry to hear that. I got it last year for the first time and it sucked. Nothing life threatening but it was an exhausting two weeks. I hope you feel better soon. I'm happy to read over both those article, they look to be yet another great example of you taking an article creation of mine and making it great. I'm a little short on time - life's busy at the moment and I've struggling to get much dedicated time here - but I also know it won't take much effort for me to look over them because we've done this before, and usually they don't hardly need any input from me at all in the end. Short descriptions of console generations

Just thought I'd let you know about the recent edits I did last night. I changed/simplified the short descs for nearly every console generation's article (excluding the sixth generation, though I made a base off of that). I wish to hear your thoughts because some of the previous short descs were inappropriately long and highlighted a certain console, which I did not believe fits a neutral tone.

As for your reversion on my edit for the eighth generation, could you elaborate on your reasoning? The 3DS was indeed released earlier than any of the home consoles then, though I forgot some devices that were released no earlier than 2011. Carlinal (talk) 16:48, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

My concern was less about the year, and more that I didn't think subbing in "gaming devices" was necessarily a better option. The articles focus on more than just the devices, but on the industry as a whole. I don't feel that strongly about it, but since you did it across a bunch of other articles too, you might want to start up a discussion at WP:VG - specifically WT:VG and get others input. Who knows, someone might have a third idea that's better too. Sergecross73 msg me 16:51, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

Track listing

Hi again, Serge. Since you edit in the same area, I wanted to ask: is using the template {{Track listing}} necessary for albums? (the template says to use either the template or a bulleted list), then can a simple table be used instead too? A while ago, I added track listing to this article Link Click#Music, but there already exists a table for the soundtrack which was not added by me but I believe it is much more legible than the template I used? or would it be better to post this on the article's talk page instead to gain consensus?
Secondly, Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Capital letters says, "Reduce track titles on albums where all or most tracks are listed in all capitals." So, would it be appropriate to use ALL CAPS when titles use it sparingly, where almost all the tracks use normal capitalisation and a few use ALL CAPS? There's also this stylisation in track titles, say, for example, this title "XƎTЯOVerthink" on the article Link Click. Is it needed to write it per Wikipedia's capitalisation? The title is only mentioned once, and most of the other titles follow the general manual of style. I believe adding notes at the bottom just to specify the stylisations is not very practical and the stylisations can be used in the title since they are only ever mentioned once? Lunar-akauntotalk 10:34, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Hello. WP:TRACKLISTING gives good guidance on how to handle things. I personally always use the template in articles I create, but was surprised earlier in the year to find other editors don't, and that actual guidance is more dependent on how complicated the information you're trying to portray is. I personally don't find much value in how its portrayed though - I simply pick one, and if anyone doesn't like it and wishes to change the track list to a different format, I let them do so. As long as the track list is present and correct, I'd rather work on other, more important things that readers are likely to actually notice.
In the same vein, I'm a pretty strict follower of WP:ALLCAPS. I don't use capitalizations unless its clear that there's some sort of meaning behind it. Otherwise, its lowercaps. Sergecross73 msg me 16:40, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. So, potentially, using a table for track listing is correct as long as there's no edit warring over it? and worry not, like earlier times, I am no longer hell-bent on track listings alone anymore, (this time I am actually adding stuff that matters or readers read rather than just needlessly tinkering with track listings), this was just something I thought when the entire listing was missing, like say, if someone had already added this before and used a bulleted list or maybe did not use stylisation for titles I would not fiddle with it and have no problem with either of the two used by the original editor as they saw fit.
What do you think about stylisations in track listing titles, not ALL CAPS or all small where there's little to no actual meaning behind the change but actual stylisation like "XƎTЯOVerthink" or "Xetrov Overthink" in the music section? Using the latter and adding notes just for the stylisation would be futile, especially when the song itself is never mentioned in the article again? Lunar-akauntotalk 03:00, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
Glad to hear there wont be any further troubles. As far as your questions goes, it might be a good one to ask at WT:ALBUMS. I'm not 100% sure how I'd handle examples like that. I mostly edit American/European/Australian rock music articles, and they don't tend to use stylizations like that. Sergecross73 msg me 17:02, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
Okay I'll do that. thank you for your help Lunar-akauntotalk 01:56, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

Sorry for editing something unsourceful? I was needed to know about it. But why not edit Sonic Heroes about a possible remake? ArdaOnay2004 (talk) 09:46, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

We only report on rumors when 1) reliable sources report on them, and 2) we have to write it with the context that it's a rumor.
Your attempts had no source, vaguely alluded to a Twitter account reporting it (not a reliable source) and failed to mention that it was a rumor.
When I say "reliable source", I mean a mainstream website like IGN or GameSpot. There's a lot of good examples at WP:VG/S too. When I say "a source needs to be added", I mean like what is done at WP:REFB. Sergecross73 msg me 12:45, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

Cancelled GB games

Fantastic work on the GBA article so far. I know it's a pretty long list, so if you want to take a break and work on another article, List of cancelled Game Boy games really needs the help. There's only around 10 games currently, so it theoretically shouldn't take long, but it's largely bereft of good sources (or ANY sources in a few cases) and could use some serious TLC to get it in shape. I'm almost finished spot-checking all the sources on the GBC list, so I'm gonna tackle filling out that one next. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 21:01, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Thank you, I appreciate it! And thank you for all the cleanup help and additional entries you've written. Honestly, with a lot of the lists I write/maintain, I get irritated that other editors don't quite get how to write entries, or don't know what should be included or removed. So I really appreciate how we're on the same page, and you write good entries. I often can't even tell our entries apart.
So, long story short, I do plan on cleaning up the Game Boy ones too. I mapped out a loose gameplan for myself at User:Sergecross73/sandbox#Cancelled video games - I'm trying to work on a list per month. If I work on a list too long, I start to get burned out.
That said, it's just a rough outline I made recently, and I've already been altering it here and there, so by all means, work on whatever you like. If you finish one off before I even get to it, I'll just sub in another replacement project. (There's still a bunch of lower priority ones like 3D0 or Atari that I can add to my list too.) Thanks for the kind words. Glad to know my years of write-ups and admin work at TFWiki have done my prose skills some favors. I'll see if I can get GBC totally finished by this weekend; hopefully that'll mean one more page you can take off your plate. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 19:28, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
I just figured it was from all the years I've seen you around Wikipedia off and on. I know we've crossed paths on a lot of Mario and Sonic related articles over the year.
I don't know it for certain, but I've been guessing that there would be a fair amount of overlap in cancelled GB and GBC games. If we do end up splitting it where I do one and you do the other, we'll have to compare notes and share entries (like we've pretty much been doing anyways at the N64 one.) Sergecross73 msg me 16:21, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan. I'm about 80% of the way through the existing GBC entries now now, and only two games (Starfy and Sutte Hakkun) suggest Game Boy versions were ever planned, so we'll see how much overlap there ends up actually being. It's unlikely it'll stay that way when the real work starts getting done on it, but if the GB list stays at just 10-15 or so like it is now, it might end up making more sense to merge the two lists together in one article. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 21:06, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
Wow, I'm either envious of your speed of writing, or your free time available - I generally only have small spurts of time for dedicated writing. Yeah, that's interesting, I would have guessed more overlap, but you never know. It can also be harder to tell how complete the older lists like that are, where you have to largely rely on old print sources. The Sega-related lists have fansites with massive lists to cross-reference - much like that N64Forever (or whatever it is) website for the N64. Not sure how much is out there for the GB. But oh well, all we can do is add what we can find and verify.
Regardless, nice work, its looking good, and thanks for the helping me with this overarching project! Sergecross73 msg me 21:15, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
Happy to help. Just a fast writer, I guess. Agreed that finding info on older games gets much tougher when most of the good sources are pre-internet and not always well-archived. That said, I did manage to find what I'm pretty sure is a complete list of all the GB/GBC games found in the September lot check from the Gigaleak. Filtering out all the cancelled localizations, revisions, etc., it looks like there's 27 fully-unreleased GBC games (12 of which are already on the page) and 13 GB games (6 of which are on the page but could use additional citation). Obviously the spreadsheet I got it from can't be used as a source, but it does at least give us a list of names to start hunting for. I'll add them to the respective talk pages so we have them for reference later. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 00:24, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
GBC's up to date now and ready for more new entries, but I wanted to make you aware of a source I found that might help with what you were talking about earlier. This Japanese fansite has a big list of cancelled games (the section with the green header), but each game's page includes scans of magazine pages that mention them. This could be a big help in trying to find and fill in coverage. The list is mostly focused on GB/GBC, but I see they also have a subpage with some cancelled Neo Geo Pocket, WonderSwan, and Lynx games. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 20:41, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
Good find! That could be helpful for the expansion part of things. FYI, I've finished writing what's currently present on the GBA one, and will be moving into the expansion/adding new entries phase on that shortly. I'm not sure how much digging I plan on doing on it, but I feel like there could be a lot out there - seems like that can be the case with platforms that have a shorter than usual lifespan. No problem; best of luck with that. I've just finished getting the Game Boy list converted over to the writeup format, so it's looking much better now, if a little slim. I'll probably pace myself a little more as I pick at the remaining games on the talk page, see if I can't vet each of their magazine citations and get those added. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 20:15, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

Question about Spoilers

Hello,

I didnt knew about Wikipedia spoiler policy and I understand why you reverted my change on the The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky page.

However, I believe that the part that I hid doesnt belong in a "Synopsys" section, as it specifically reveal a small part of the ending, it's hard to see it as an "encyclopedic purpose". It could be relevant in a "Detailed Plot" section with the whole plot written explicitely.

"Sections that frequently contain spoiler warnings—such as plot summaries, episode lists, character descriptions, etc.—were already clearly named to indicate that they contain plot details. Therefore, further disclaimers would be redundant and unnecessary."

=> I dont think this apply to the synopsis section.

Would it be possible to simply remove it ?

Thank you CPedit (talk) 15:05, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

No worries, I understand many parts of the internet are sensitive to hiding/avoiding spoilers, but not Wikipedia. In regards to the rest of what you've said, I don't think outright removal is the answer, but building a more comprehensive plot summary around it would work. I haven't played the game in about a decade though, so I personally wouldn't be the best person for the job... Sergecross73 msg me 15:09, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

As I expected, the best thing would be to add a "Detailed plot" or "Plot summary" section, separated from the Synopsis (I thin I saw this in many movies pages). Not sure if I can do it myself, maybe I will try to find people to do so.
Thanks. CPedit (talk) 15:14, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
If anyone writes up a rough version, I can try to clean it up. I don't recall it enough to write it from scratch but I could cleanup an already established version. Sergecross73 msg me 16:35, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
Noted, thanks !
Is removal really impossible for now ? (not sure when anyone will be able to do the full plot paragraph). Because really, it has nothing to do with a Synopsis, as "a short resume of the general story", that the first paragraph is doing well. To be honest I almost see it as a malicious addition, it's like writing the ending of a movie on the DVD box. CPedit (talk) 16:43, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
You're free to start a talk page discussion and get other input, but you're not likely to garner any support if your primary argument is largely about spoilers (and for a 20 year old game no less.)
Side note: Hopefully you're not the anonymous editor who just decided to go rogue and just start deleting it anyways. That's not going to work. Sergecross73 msg me 17:32, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
I see, thank you for your insight. Hopefully one of these day I have the time to do a full "Plot" section.
(Of course not, if I bother creating an account and having all this talk with you it's not to do that, especially since I know how it works now...) CPedit (talk) 15:42, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
Thank you. Didn't mean to accuse you of anything, its just that some people do go that route. Sergecross73 msg me 16:43, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

New User, Odd Behaviour

Hi,

Asking an admin as I'm unsure what to do about this. There's a new user I've just come across and they seem to be trawling the recent changes list and just robotically undoing recent changes and spamming talk pages with user templates as a result. I think it's just overenthusiasm but it just... weird. Would you mind taking a look at it? Trudy Walker (talk · contribs)

Hello,
Its me. I promise I'm not a bot. I recently started editing Wikipedia and I guess I am kind of trawling the recent changes list to get more edits. Sorry about that. I guess I should start doing more copyediting or something like that. Thanks for telling me about my "odd behaviour." :) Trudy Walker (talk) 18:43, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
I appreciate the enthusiasm, but you should probably slow it down a bit. You ought to be pretty proficient on your own before you're out there lecturing and warning others. Sergecross73 msg me 21:55, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
Ok, sorry about that. I'll try to do more copyediting and less trawling the recent changes list. :)

Regarding Pop'n Land

Hello there! I hope you're doing well. Hey, i just found out that the game on the Mega CD list of canned games, Pop'n Land, is indeed a conversion of Cocoron from the Famicom. I left some sources on the talk page of canned games for the Mega CD so you can double check the info too :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 22:42, 8 June 2024 (UTC)

Thanks! I'll look into it. I'm not super familiar with either, so might take me a moment to get up to speed enough to comment on it. Sergecross73 msg me 23:11, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
Found a source that confirms your suspicions here. Sergecross73 msg me 16:51, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy

Regarding the reference: at the time, I thought it was a good idea since the video had the game's Japanese title in its title, but I did not realize that there were other sources that had the title. 2601:547:CC80:4F00:183A:28D8:F9DD:B07D (talk) 13:03, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

No worries. I'm just trying to clean it up some so no one tries to target it for deletion or merging. Sergecross73 msg me 13:15, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

About the Whole Yoshi's Island Sequel/Prequel Business

I understand what you meant in your edit summary. Do you think we might be able to compromise by stating Yoshi's Island as both a sequel and a prequel? 2603:6010:8B00:44FF:590:539E:5CC5:8241 (talk) 01:29, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

I think you're overthinking it. Those games have virtually no story. Sergecross73 msg me 02:07, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
Understood. Thanks for the advice! 2603:6010:8B00:44FF:4CB5:B879:46CE:BCFD (talk) 01:49, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
