Third party source needed for Set Me Free?
By Third Party Source what specifically is needed as a third party source for Set Me Free? Connor Marini (talk) 15:04, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- A website not connected to the content you're trying to add. For example, if a website like IGN or Gamespot wrote about the fan project stuff. We require that because otherwise the list would be overly long with unimportant examples. WP:VG/S is a good list of examples that will or won't work. Sergecross73 msg me 15:14, 24 June 2024 (UTC)

/talk 13:23, 24 June 2024 (UTC)- I'm not 100% sure. I don't see it at WP:GOODCHART or WP:BADCHART. If an album hasn't entered the Hot Albums chart, but ranks on any of the component Album charts, then the entry can be included in the table. If the album enters the Hot Albums ranking then none of the component charts should be included. Calling a song a lead single
Hi Serge. Ik there's been plenty of discussion on the topic before, but I'd like some extra clarification if you don't mind. A song was released in Dec 2023 as a digital single. It was a standalone single as it was not stated to be part of any album at the time. Six months later, the artist who released said single announces an upcoming album and the standalone single is included on the tracklist. Is it accurate to write in the lede of the song article that it was released as the lead single from the upcoming album? I feel that this is misleading and incorrect as 1) there was no connection between the two until now and 2) two of the new songs on the album will be released as singles in support of it, one of which has been referred to in reliable secondary news sources as the album's actual lead single. Ik what the lead single WP article says, but it still doesn't feel right to me given the context surrounding this song. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 20:47, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
(talk page reader) @Carlobunnie: I'm going to answer because I once had this doubt too. See, a single is a single; it's self-evident that it was released before an album and certainly, in many cases, does not have any connection with any upcoming albums by the artist. I think the readers would easily understand what you are trying to say even when the lead says from the album because it is listed as a single, don't you think?Lunar-akaunto
/talk 03:11, 24 June 2024 (UTC)- Sorry, totally forgot about this, will chime in tomorrow. Sergecross73 msg me 03:18, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- Carlobunnie - I agree with your sentiment. I wouldn't call it a "lead single" if, during its initial release, there was zero connection between it and its future album. Lead singles are meant to promote the album, but you can't promote what's non-existent. There's a lot of Wikipedia editors who often see things in black and white and wouldn't understand that nuance though, so I could see getting pushback on it from others, and I'm having a bit of trouble articulating it beyond this... Sergecross73 msg me 18:24, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your thoughts. Something similar to what I asked about occurred back in 2020 with "Dynamite (BTS song)". We added a single line at the end of the lead indicating it was a standalone single later included on an album. I've taken the same approach on the article of the song that prompted my question to you. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 19:17, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Carlobunnie: Oops, sorry, I misread your original question. I thought you were saying whether to remove "from the album", as in, "…is a song by artist from the album…" sentence. Sorry for that. It is definitely not appropriate to say it is a lead single from the album if there was no announcement stating the same by the artist. But wait, from this, I have a doubt for myself: when i think about it again, shouldn't from the album mention be only and only used for songs that were released as promotional singles from the album? I have seen some articles that don't use this in the lead but use it in the infobox instead. Isn't that incorrect in itself?

For instance, I was referring to Nobody (OneRepublic song). Isn't this incorrect? The song is probably from Kaiju soundtrack, but I removed it at the time because at the time the full track listing was not out. Someone's now added from the album because it was also included in their new album, but at the time of the release, as you said too, there was no connection between the two until now. Sega development divisions
How can we organize the pages for the Japanese Sega development divisions?: there are pages for the CS1 (RGG Studio), CS2 (Sonic Team), Fave R&D (Sega AM1, AM2) (and defunct studios like Sega Sports R&D, United Game Artists which have entangled up the former studio names, especially during the 2000s, especially with Hitmaker and Sega Rosso being under the Fave AM1/R&D1 page) However, CS1 & CS2 use their brand names on Wikipedia rather than their official division names (since those names are used whenever Sega is making a Sonic or Like a Dragon/Yakuza game). However on the games that are outside of those brand names, the Sega name is solely used instead. The Japanese Wikipedia has a lot of articles detailing Sega's development studios prior to the Sega Sammy formation (from 2000 to 2004) such as: Amusement Vision, Smilebit, the 2000 incarnation of Sega-AM2, Hitmaker, Sega Rosso and Sega WOW (including Overworks and WOW Entertainment) respectively. If there's any solutions to this, please let me know so we can figure things out. Thanks! VenezuelanSpongeBobFan2004 (talk) 05:17, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- I'd recommend starting a discussion at Talk: Sega and then notifying WT:VG for input, if you wish to pursue this. That said...we have a pretty active group of editors working on Sega related things. I'd be a bit surprised if this was the correct path to take and no one else thought of it before. It's probably the way it is currently for a reason.
- Semi-related - please stop changing the development field on individual games until you get a WP:CONSENSUS to move forward on this proposal. Sergecross73 msg me 13:22, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

It might be a slog, but if you do get some free time, would you be able to read over this discussion? Definitely not now, but do you think the argument put up for moving the article has any significance, or is it any valid for later? Now, I do not ask you this, expecting you to be involved in the discussion itself, or that if you do speak about it, I'll go there again. No. But i only ask you this since you have experience in discussions and for a third opinion.
Also, if replying or discussing with every person involved is WP:BLUDGEONING, how do we actually discuss? Do we just make our points and move on without actively replying to all the other posters? or does this only apply to the original poster? Lunar-akaunto
/talk 14:55, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- In my experience, it can be hard to change a consensus when you've got 2 very viable options like this. Considering both are used, both are mentioned prominently in the intro, and either are searchable through WP:REDIRECTs existing, I wouldn't worry about it too much. There appears to be little room for confusion by the reader.
- As far as bludgeoning goes, some back and forth is completely fine, encouraged even. It usually just a problem when its a lot of responses that are clearly are bogging down the discussion and getting the way of others expressing themselves. Often its an issue if its repetitive and relatively apparent that its not persuading anyone. I personally didn't think it moved into bludgeoning territory in the discussion you linked to. Userpage and talk page bloated with images
Hi Sergecross73,
What do you make of the userpage and talk page by Abussen? I wanted to left them a message about using an inappropriate tone, but their talk page is so incredibly bloated with images my browser actually crashes. See their contributions. Don't know if this is still own talk territory or if it crosses a line. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 06:30, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, if nothing else, its disruptive to make it so you can't load/read/comment on user/talk pages, as it keeps them from serving their purpose. It crashed on me too, so I had to address it in a roundabout way. But it's been deleted, and they've been warned not to do that anymore. Sergecross73 msg me 15:46, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
Cancelled Master System games
I've just started a sandbox for building a Cancelled Master System games page. It's still early goings, mostly just using info from Sega Retro that will need to be fact-checked and cleaned up, but I'll be taking care of that over the next week before I move it to the mainspace. Just wanted to make sure it's on your radar so you don't start working on a similar page once you finish the Genesis games. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 15:39, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up. That one wasn't on my radar, so you're good to go. My three next ones will probably be finishing the Genesis one, creating an Xbox One one, and rewriting the SNES one. I'm about to get a lot busier off-wiki though, so my progress could slow down for a bit too...
- FYI, there may be some leads here for the Master System one. I used that article as a starting point for leads when creating and rewriting a bunch of the Sega-related ones. There were AFD discussions years back that said "List by manufacturer" weren't appropriate, so I redirected it after I had created and rewritten most of the Sega ones. I think the Master System was the only I never reworked. (Nor was I planning on it - its's also the one I have no particular interest in.) Sergecross73 msg me 17:06, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

I think I've now fully consolidated Sega Retro's list, the old Sega consoles list you posted, and the Cancelled Master System Games category, so that should be enough games to start with. I'll migrate over any usable sources from Retro next, then get to work writing up entries. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 20:15, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

Might be getting a little overly ambitious with this one, but I do think it's the most needed of the articles, given both the number of games and the fact they were mixed in with the main PS3 list until now. This'll probably be my big project for the next few months while you're busy. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 15:51, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- Awesome, glad to see things will keep moving even as I slow down for a bit. Looks like PS3 may take a while but I'm always impressed with your speed. (I tend to get distracted in my research.) Joe Henson
Is it just me, or does Joe Henson (video game designer) read like a paid editor wrote it? Stuff like "Henson's entry into the gaming industry was driven by his passion for video games" sounds like it comes directly from a vanity Who's Who book. And he was "nominated for Community Manager of the Year at the Social Media Marketing Awards UK". I mean, who has ever heard of this? It gets 9 hits on Google, and one of them is Joe Henson's resume on LinkedIn. That said, I guess I'm curious what other people think because I don't want to do a paid editing block without evidence, and I'm not sure these edits are really overt enough t call the creator a promo-only account. Music art
Hi again. I hope you're doing well. Again, since you work in the area, could you tell me what cover we prefer in infoboxes? I've thought about it as if a song or album has two different covers, digital and cd, the cd would be placed before, and though discouraged if an alternative cover is added, digital should be there. And if both are the same and there exists a third edition, like the first press or limited edition, the standard always goes first. Is my stance on this incorrect? Lunar-akaunto
/talk 06:49, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- I don't usually work with images much, but my understanding is that the more recognizable and representative image should be used, and alternate covers generally shouldn't be unless there's something particularly noteworthy about them. Multiple images should really only be used if there's a noteworthy point of discussion about it. For example, if cover art was changed/altered because of violent or sexual imagery. Sergecross73 msg me 17:18, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- I see. I have seen that western artists almost never have differing digital and physical cover arts, while Chinese or Japanese artists often tend to do so. So, if we're playing safe and only including one cover art, what do we pick then? If we go with digital only (probably the more recognisable among both worldwide but might differ case to case for the native country), it just doesn't feel right to skip the physical one. I mean, the cover wouldn't confuse the reader, right?

/talk 02:33, 21 July 2024 (UTC)- I don't really have anything more to add beyond what I already said - go with the more recognizable one. WP:IUP is pretty clear that we need to be using copyrighted images sparingly. Sergecross73 msg me 02:48, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past
Excuse me but I think that the The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past page is in need of some rescuing as far as the plot is concerned. I keep getting reverted by someone with over 300 reverts on his page, who has also approached me like someone official on my talk page. I'm sorry if I'm ruining a perfectly good day, or if I'm the one who may actually be in the wrong for some reason, either way I need help. Maxcardun (talk) 17:02, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- I'm happy to help mediate, but I think you're misunderstanding a couple things.
- See WP:VG/PLOT for guidance on how we write plot summaries on video games on Wikipedia. Reviewing that, you'll see that:
- We keep plot summaries relatively brief and just cover major plot points, so a lot of times editors get challenged when small details or tangents are added to an article.
- Straightforward basic observations ("Link walked across the field") don't require sources, but more detailed things that aren't brutally obvious do need a source. ("Link walked across the field with a scroll that said "Ipsum lorum" on it, the same words the mystic wizard had chanted in the game's opening").
- It should not be interpreted as offensive that Soetermans brought it up on the talk page. Proper conduct on Wikipedia is discussing disagreements on talk pages. And what he said to you just a pre-written, template response. See WP:WARNINGS. There's tons of them. Those aren't even his own words. Some editors prefer using them because they find it tedious to write out "please use sources while writing Wikipedia" comments ten times a day. I don't use them a ton for this very reason, they can cause misunderstandings. Sergecross73 msg me 17:30, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Cancelled PS3 games
Just giving you the heads-up for the ongoing cancelled game list improvement efforts that the PS3 article is finally live. I'm fairly certain any games that were axed on both PS3 and 360 are now on both pages, but if you decide to expand the 360 list any further after your hiatus is over, please make sure to copy any relevant entries to the new page as well. Source required to change tense?
Hey Serge. Been a while. Hope you're doing well. I was just updating articles to say albums have been released as it's past midnight on Friday September 6 in NZ and Australia. I was reverted on David Gilmour here, with the reasoning that "a source dated 24 April 2024 can't support a claim for an event on 5 or 6 September 2024". I started a thread on the user's talk page, but have you ever seen this in updating video game articles or anything—that a new source is required to say the project has now been released? I didn't think it was a contentious detail to change tense to say an album one can easily find is available on streaming services (Apple Music's online source can easily be changed to another country to see what's out, for example) has now been released, but maybe for some it is. - In my experience, the only push back comes from people who don't understand how time zones work (or forget about them.) No idea what their hang up on sourcing is - it's not like we require perpetual assurance from an artist or other sources that a release is still on track from its announcement. I don't understand why you undid the changes I made for LP page by adding rap metal. They are a rap metal act. Gasybeaugosse2020 (talk) 14:40, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

Context
Hi my name is Marisoft69 and i want speak with you, I'm sorry for not including the source but it is due to an explanation all the news to get a source were in my native language Spanish or others other than English or some already seem like misinformation so I will have the explanation so that you and others can explain it to you, you just have to tell me the context and I will tell you, Goodbye Marisoft69 (talk) 02:22, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not entirely sure what you're saying or asking for here, but as I mentioned on your talk page, per WP:V, all content additions require a reliable source to verify that information. If you can't find a source to verify the information, do not add that information. If you can't follow this very basic rule, your account will be blocked from editing the English Wikipedia. Sergecross73 msg me 13:12, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)@Marisoft69: You may use Spanish-language sources if necessary. Non-English sources are much better than unsourced content. If you retrieved the information from a Spanish language news source, then please cite that source in your edits. Left guide (talk) 02:54, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

A barnstar for you
The Music Barnstar | ||
For your efforts in maintaining the order, neutrality, and integrity of the encyclopedia across Linkin Park-related articles in general, but especially the last few weeks while it's been a very busy topic area. Left guide (talk) 02:49, 12 September 2024 (UTC) |
- Thank you, I appreciate it. Same to you too - thanks for all your help around the website. Sergecross73 msg me 12:59, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

I didn't get very good sleep last night and my response on my talk page was less than civil. Someone's mowing the lawn now so I won't sleep, hopefully coffee will help. Genuinely my intention was always for the content to be gradually reintroduced to the project with reliable sources and "manual of style" tone CatTits10 (talk) 15:09, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it. It's good to address unsourced information, but I just wanted to make you aware of some of the issues that can be caused when it's not addressed optimally. It often takes a while to get the right balance between blanking, tagging, or sourcing it yourself. Sergecross73 msg me 15:21, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
edit summary?
what's with that edit summary on Lower Than Atlantis? Yeah I agree its easy to find sources for stuff like chart positions but not when there are 72345312574 other unsourced statements in the article that I also need to keep track of. I'm trying to cover as much ground as I can. Sorry if I'm spread thin. I don't understand why everyone is coming at me instead of the people who introduced the unsourced claims in the first place hahaha.
If nothing else, I'm spacing out the content in the article and tagging the claims so I can assess them on a one-by-one basis once I get around to it.
Peace, CatTits10 (talk) 20:15, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Much like your excessive blanking, you're now excessively spamming CN tags on things that are extremely easily sourced. Why not just fix them as you see them? I don't understand the rush to tag them. You keep complaining about "spreading yourself too thin". Why are you treating editing an encyclopedia as a race? There is no deadline, and the things you're tagging aren't particularly contentious or controversial, it's all basic statements like "(X) was the name of their 2023 album" type stuff.
- Please slow down and do a little bit of work well, then a lot of it sloppily. You'd make more of an impact that way, and wouldn't have to keep stopping to explain/defend yourself. Sergecross73 msg me 20:26, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- But actually reading the sources takes a really long time though and I'm concerned I will accidentally add a source that doesn't have the info I need if I try skimming it, and yeah I know there's no deadline, but let's not lose track of the fact that I am doing chores on this project that should have been done two decades ago and I have a high sense of urgency to finish these projects, especially since I already went to the trouble to get rid of all the clutter. You keep saying to bring sources instead of deleting, but that is overwhelming considering the immense amount of WP:cruft present on some of these pages, I feel like I am sifting through a g*ddamn dumpster. It's a jungle in there, Serge.

- I know, I've been doing this for 15 years. You've got to pace yourself or it gets overwhelming. You've got to control yourself. Your sense of urgency is going to get you blocked, and then you won't be able to get anything done. Seriously, you've got to turn it around. I would not be surprised if you get temporarily blocked from the current ANI discussion going on. This is not a threat - I'm letting ANI largely handle this one - but rather an observation from someone who has seen this many times before. Wikipedia is a collaborative project - part of that is showing you're willing and able to work with others. Your responses there are coming off as confrontational and unwilling to change. That's not good. Sergecross73 msg me 20:45, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
They need to close that thread and quit arguing with me then lmao. The person who opened it didn't even look at my entire edit summary. And now there's people I've never interacted with coming by just to ridicule me!! Not that I care, I just think it's kind of sad lol.- Trust me dude, I know what I'm doing. I may not have the level of experience you do, but I have a vision for these pages to have rich, valuable information with reliable sources and neutral tone. I'm going to try to chill out, but I'm just glad I've gotten these pages trimmed down to "ground zero" so they can actually be a viable project to work on. Seeking assistance with a case on WP:ANI
Hey there!
I'm thinking if you could you help have a look on this persistent deletion of content case? It's unbecoming with the repeated pattern of deletions by associated IP addresses. Appreciate your assist on this . Thanks hundenvonPG (talk) 02:27, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
