HESFES
[edit]Hello, I recently read your comments to the above topic. I had recently edited it somewhat as I have actually been involved with the festival for a very long time.May have come across slightly emotional because it was very close to me being a home educator myself and being part of it for many years, and for this year to be cancelled I thought I would add something to the piece, as it was much more than just a festival for home educators it was the original festival. Not really knowing the ins and outs of wikipedia I had taken your criticisms aboard and edited where appropriate., my editing was just recent , it was the largest home ed festival in families attending but that can only be compared to the numbers from all the other festivals which one would only know if they were involved in the home ed community . The website is down atm and would have all that info on it, not entirely sure when it will be running again though, kind regards Pamelajefferson (talk) 14:14, 8 May 2016 (UTC).

Adding references to Trout Brook, Holden, MA
[edit]Thanks for pointers. I have four references and one photo to add. I'm just reading/learning about how to add Cite error: A <ref>
tag is missing the closing </ref>
(see the help page). for any reference to "LaVeyan". A simple search comes up with no matches.
Will the Church of Scientology be required to start qualifying its name as Hubbardian Scientology when another version of it appears? Wikipedia loses credibility when new religions are allowed to change the names of existing ones to differentiate themselves.
Gene Lavergne (talk) 18:01, 28 May 2016 (UTC)OperaQ
- Hi Operaq, thanks for your message - the Church of Satan was founded by Anton Szandor LaVey, and bases it's belief system on that of the The Satanic Bible. On Wikipedia, and I dare say elsewhere, a follower of Satanism which adheres to LaVey's teachings would be known as an LaVeyan Satanist. The term is recognized by the Church, as they believe those which follow any other name of Satanism are merely "psudo-satanists" -- samtar talk or stalk 18:13, 28 May 2016 (UTC)

02:16:16, 11 June 2016 review of submission by 67.9.151.198
[edit]- 67.9.151.198 (talk · contribs)
Hi Samtar,
I respectfully disagree with your decision to decline this article and request a re-review. It has been built up by several authors independent of the subject over a long period of time. It meets the Golden Rule guidelines and the Guidelines for the Notability of Creative Professionals (filmmakers, etc.)
The Golden Rule: The subject indeed has significant coverage (multi-page editorials, not Q&A interviews) in reliable sources (NY Times, LA Times, LA Weekly, Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Filmmaker Magazine, IndieWire, the Museum of Modern Art, etc.) that are independent of the topic (of course, the periodicals previously mentioned aren't related to the subject of the article in any way).
Guidelines for the Notability of Creative Professionals:
1) The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors.
The subject has been covered as one of the top 100 new filmmakers in a book published by Phaidon Press that was curated by major film festival programmers from around the world. The subject has also been nominated for an IFP Gotham Award. Also, included in the sources are interviews with other filmmakers who cite the work of the subject as an influence and something wholly original.
2) The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory, or technique.
See the above respond to #1. The filmmaker is known for the originality of his work.
3) The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews.
The subject created a work that was deemed significant by the NY Times, the Museum of Modern Art and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The work, "Loren Cass", has also been the one of the subjects of a book ("Take 100" published by Phaidon Press) and of multiple independent periodical articles and reviews. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.9.151.198 (talk) 02:27, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
4) The person's work (or works) either (a) has become a significant monument, (b) has been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) has won significant critical attention, or (d) is represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.
The subject's feature film, "Loren Cass", is known for its originality (a), was featured in an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC (b), has been named a NY Times Critic's Pick and received strong reviews in numerous mainstream publications (c), was nominated for an IFP Gotham Award (c), and is represented at the Museum of Modern Art along with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (d), linked below for verification.

- I'm not sure I'm afraid, I believe it was originally coded by another editor and I only copied it. It is likely that the code places it there.

- (talk page watcher) This is what the WP:TEAHOUSE is for. Why not try that? It's made for your very purpose. Muffled Pocketed 15:22, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- I know that but I wanted to ask him as help desk and teahouse dont produce satisfactory respnses--VarunFEB2003 (talk • contribs) 15:35, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- @VarunFEB2003:
- 1. Set up at User:VarunFEB2003/status
- 2. Fortuna has kind of demonstrated that quite well - a talk page stalker/watcher is an editor who has your talk page on their watchlist, and will often reply to messages/remove vandalism from your talk page.
- 3 & 4. {{userbox}} and {{topicon}}
- 5. Wikipedia:Unified login
- 6. I would read Your first article and then use the article wizard
- 7. As I'm a programmer/sysadmin in real life, I develop user scripts (among other things, such as the Wikipedia Adventure)

TWL HighBeam check-in
[edit]Hello Wikipedia Library Users,
You are receiving this message because the Wikipedia Library has record of you receiving a one-year subscription to HighBeam. This is a brief update to remind you about that access:
- Make sure that you can still log in to your HighBeam account; if you are having trouble feel free to contact me for more information. When your access expires you can reapply at WP:HighBeam.
- Remember, if you find this source useful for your Wikipedia work, make sure to include citations with links on Wikipedia: links to partner resources are one of the few ways we can demonstrate usage and demand for accounts to our partners. The greater the linkage, the greater the likelihood a useful partnership will be renewed. For more information about citing this source, see Wikipedia:HighBeam/Citations
- Write unusual articles using this partner's sources? Did access to this source create new opportunities for you in the Wikipedia community? If you have a unique story to share about your contributions, let us know and we can set up an opportunity for you to write a blog post about your work with one of our partner's resources.
Finally, we would greatly appreciate if you filled out this short survey. The survey helps us not only better serve you with facilitating this particular partnership, but also helps us discover what other partnerships and services the Wikipedia Library can offer.
Thank you.
Hey Sam
[edit]Thanks for all the help u gave me till date. I have done the talk thing of mine so you can leave it. For Vandalism I shall seek DatGuy. But I didnt understand much about adoption. Are trainers at CVU and adopters different. If a user is trained by someone else can he be adopted by someone else. If yes could u adopt me I want a mentor who can help me here at Wikipedia. --VarunFEB2003 (talk • contribs) 07:54, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- @VarunFEB2003: Technically CVU and adoption are different things, however it would be best for DatGuy to mentor you whilst you're taking part in CVU, as I imagine a lot of the content is the same. You're always more than welcome to drop by here with any questions though, and I tend to reply pretty quick when online -- samtar talk or stalk 07:56, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- Ok thanks a lot--VarunFEB2003 (talk • contribs) 08:05, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

- Hi again VarunFEB2003:
- I'll take a look and see what I can do :)
- The {{userbox}} template should help you get started
- You can mark them with the G7 CSD tag or just ask an admin

[edit]Hello. I saw you had reverted my edits on User talk:Bbb23. I was only asking for help. I did not blank the page did I?! In any case will you help me? Please. I wouldn't ask unless I was desperate. 89.243.33.153 (talk) 17:34, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- IP, genuinely, if I could help I would, but currently you're evading a block. Now, I don't know the history behind said block (nor do I have time to look into it I'm afraid) but I can imagine it was for a good reason. -- samtar talk or stalk 17:37, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- That being said, the only help I can offer you is a link to Wikipedia:Guide to appealing blocks -- samtar talk or stalk 17:39, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- Takes a bit more than that. The person in question has been community banned. Favonian (talk) 17:41, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the backstory Favonian, it's a real but justified shame -- samtar talk or stalk 17:47, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- See their talk page for an unblock request from a few months ago where they were pointed to UTRS for the unblock. Their talk page overall was an interesting read - seems nice but very determined to do things their way, consensus otherwise be damned. Hard to see how that's changed. Ravensfire (talk) 18:09, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) I'll consider it for my next bout of light bedtime reading.. I had no doubts that the admins here have listened, considered unblock requests and provided further appeal methods - it's just always a shame when you read what at least sounds like a sincere request from one of these banned editors. Perhaps I'm just soft? -- samtar talk or stalk 18:15, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- It hasn't. He tries to evade his block (using IPs) several times a week, screaming at people who revert him. Favonian (talk) 18:12, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- In that case, perhaps not so sincere -- samtar talk or stalk 18:16, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

Adoption Request
[edit]I am interested in mentors hip. Even though I have several hundred edits now, I'm still not quite perfect and have been blocked before. Could you please adopt me to try and improve myself and my skills. Reply soon and thanks. Pablothepenguin (talk) 17:13, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
