Time for another to coach

Now that EivindFOyangen is basically gaining more experience, I think I can take on someone else for admin coaching. I think there are a few admins on the coaches list not assigned, and might be an idea to start 'pruning' the requests list using the new rules, to try and get this moving a little bit. I can help out if you want with that, but as you're officially the coordinator I'll let you have the first bash if you want :) Petros471 16:00, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Ok, is there any special requirements to take note of? Like for example I notice the top request is from an existing admin, is that treated in the same way as the others? Petros471 21:14, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Destruction

Vandal that you are, I have of course indefinitely blocked you for this edit. So you might want to make a second attempt at it... :) Splash - tk 05:11, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Ack... Titoxd(?!?) 06:22, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

I am guessing that the barnstar on this user page, which claims to have been awarded by you, is a fake. Just thought you might want to know. Cheers TigerShark 18:59, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

All the awards on his page were stolen from fuddlemark. Oh, and to Titoxd, just saying it's been a pleasure to work with you, but I'm going on extended wikibreak, and I may or may not be back under this username. NSLE 09:43, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Protection of cite web

Hi Titoxid. May I ask you to unprotect {{cite web}}? Semi-protection is sufficient. I would agree to a hard move protection. But there is currently no need to protect that from editing by established accounts. We had some forths and backs recently but that has been settled. There are a whole bunch of good contributors there which are not admins (erm, including me). Please do not prevent us from maintaining this template. Thank you for your consideration. --Ligulem 09:35, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate the link, but there is no rainfall information at that site. =( Thanks for trying to help though. Thegreatdr 22:57, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Template:infobox hurricane small

I was thinking the exact same thing just an hour or so before you added it to Alberto, with the projected track instead of the final track. This makes me think of the time we both uploaded a high-resolution version of Image:2005 Atlantic hurricane season map.png. I guess we think alike. :) --tomf688 (talk - email) 00:35, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Re: Us folks are evil

Heh. I'm sorry if I offended anyone by that, believe me I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I'll be blunt. The main reason I suggested an expansion to Simple was so some of the contributors who like to create articles, including those who don't write particularly well, are able to make articles and write with the lower quality of grammar they typically use. Wikinews needs help as well, definetly, but those users I mentioned on my talk page would probably continue the simple writing, copy and pasting, and spelling errors they use here. In short, we should expand to both. Hurricanehink (talk) 22:46, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Oh wow, I thought I was in trouble :) I wasn't sure of the meaning of the smilie, though now I understand. If that's the format for Wikinews, then that would be perfect. Yea, both should definetly be expanded. It's just a matter of who wants to abandon the mother land and spend most of their time in faraway territories. I for one prefer the safety net of the mother land. (Hope you got the analogy). Hurricanehink (talk) 00:33, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Really? That's good to know, then. Wikinews sounds very easy, and I might help out if I have time as the season progresses. Spanish does sound hard, though. Hurricanehink (talk) 01:02, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

I blocked this guy because he kept recreating Tkendi but only for an hour because he vandalised my user page (thanks for the revert) and I didn't want it to look like revenge. Please review. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 07:45, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

An hours OK, he might have cooled off and I'll still be here. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 07:50, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

I was going through List of storms in the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season today, and noticed that the tracks were missing on the TDs/USTS; turns out you modified the Infobox hurricane small template. Anyway, there's a problem, at least on my end. Take a look at the TD10 section. Does its satellite image appear for you? It doesn't for me. I strongly believe this to be a result of your modification. Any idea how to fix it? -- RattleMan 04:20, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

I temporarily reverted your edit at that template, and the problem disappears. However, I did read your comment at WP:VPT and it seems that you had the same problem with TD2-E on the 2K6PHS page, when the image was a PNG. As CesarB said, this problem is in the fact that it's a PNG. Should we convert it to a JPG and reupload? -- RattleMan 04:35, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
Converting an image to JPG doesn't neccessary lower its quality, if done correctly. I just converted a JPG at the highest quality setting and there is no noticable difference, even at 5x zoom. Anyway, I guess I can just wait for this to be fixed. Thanks! -- RattleMan 04:48, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your support

Dear Titoxd/Archive16,
Thank you very much for your support on my recent RfA. I am pleased to announce that it passed with a tally of 72/11/1, and I am now an administrator. I'll be taking things slowly at first and getting used to the tools, but please let me know if there are any admin jobs I can do to help you, now or in the future. —Cuiviénen 02:24, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I'll try, but I, too, am really busy in real life. I've been working double shifts since Saturday, and have to until Wednesday, so I don't have a lot of time on here. I'll try and keep an eye on things, but you should ask someone else who would probably have more time. Nilfanion maybe? He did rewrite much of that article. RfA thanks!

Thanks for voting!
Hello Titoxd/Archive16, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care.

Hi, I am sending this message to serious contributors who may be interested in articles related to U.S. politics. I believe I am receiving an unreasonable response-- and at times insulting and rude-- from the editors of Norm Coleman article, who refuse to remove a section that may offer some interesting trivia for Wikipeidia users, but is irrelevant to people interested in reading an encyclopedia article on a member of U.S. Senate. If you have time, please take a look at the article. Regards. 172 | Talk 03:22, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

10,000

I award you this Barnstar of Diligence in recognition of your efforts towards creating a working system of article assessment for Wikipedia. Kirill Lokshin 05:22, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
It seems we've finally broken past 10,000 assessed articles. We have—thanks, in no small part, to your own creative ingenuity in devising the use of distributed rating for this project—achieved the first steps of what may become the semi-mythical article validation system that everyone always talks about. More than that, your efforts have spurred furious activity on the part of many formerly lethargic WikiProjects. We—as Wikipedians—are all in your debt. Kirill Lokshin 05:22, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Work via WikiProjects

Hi Tito,

Haven't heard from you in a while, I hope things are going well with you. Congratulations on your Barnstar! I have been trying to contact WikiProjects in a second round using these possible postings and this list as a template. Since there are now so many WikiProjects, I'm using our ten categories to organise things now, so they match with our categories in the V0.5 template, etc. The problem is, there is a huge amount to be done and I'm currently the only one working on it. It seems to be very fruitful - several of the postings have resulted in groups adding themselves to the bot (Films, Simpsons, Japan). I'd like to get all the projects re-contacted this summer if possible. If you have any time either to contact the Language & literature projects (next group on the list once I get through the Arts) or to update one of the listings (Science or Places would be simplest), it would be a great help. Thanks! Walkerma 04:28, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply, I'd guessed life just got busy. Would you prefer to focus on contacts/followups only, or on updating/reformatting listings, or can you manage both? I'm thinking of a timetable of Science in July, Places in August (or vice versa). What would you like to do? Thanks, Walkerma 22:57, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

I would be EXTREMELY grateful if you could help out with the infrastructure stuff, you & I are about the only people familiar enough with the intricacies of the work. Currently I am switching tables from our original format over to the {{assessment}} format you wrote (including "importance"), you can see my start at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/WPArts. The WVWP work is slow right now because it involves three stages before we can even contact groups. However it's VERY fruitful once contacts are made, just last night two more projects (trains and novels) added themselves to the bot list, I can see us breaking the 100,000 article barrier by fall (for articles read by the bot). Think what we can do with that level of metadata, especially once the assessments get done! Here are the three pre-contact stages:

  1. Write the appropriate section for the master list, showing status of old contacts and to include all of the new projects. (If you'd prefer, I can do this step for you). With so many projects now to keep track of, I am finding this new WVWP master list to be very useful for seeing the big picture. To look for new projects you can use your download of Interiot's list, but also I have found the official list to be much more up-to-date than it used to be.
  2. Using the master list to guide you, update the old page to include the new project listings.
  3. Switch over old tables to the new format.

Then, we're ready for contacting! The category changeover doesn't affect Science or Places, that's one hassle you can ignore. I had someone offer to help in contacting Science projects, it would be good to get someone new "trained" in this. If you could get those two sections updated and formatted, I'd be forever in your debt. Let me know if this is OK for you. Once again, MANY thanks, Walkerma 23:22, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Help required

Hi Tito,

I am looking for help and hopefully have reached the right person. I need help with the Indian Institutes of Technology article. The article has recently achieved FA status. Within weeks of getting the FA status, Tony brought the article to Featured article review over concerns of quality of writing and use of citations, specifically Criterion 2(a) and 2(d). In the past few weeks, I tried to improve the article myself so as to take care of all the objections, however few editors are still unconvinced. Tony suggested that I contact a member of Version 1.0 Editorial Team. After going through the list of members of the team, and your own userpage, I feel that you will be perfect person to help me. Thanks, — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 14:56, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi,
Thanks for the copyedits. I am in no hurry. I will look into your suggestions regarding citations and weasel words. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 06:36, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Update:I have provided references wherever asked for. I have also copyedit the section about reservation to eradicate as many weasel words as I could find. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 09:36, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Hope you have not forgotton the request. Voting has started on the article's FARC. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 05:05, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Tito and thanks for the image. I have a suggestion though. I think it would be good if the fonts were say three-five times as big, and the lines thicker, say twice as thick. That way the picture will look better as a thumb I would think. Wonder what you think about that. You can reply here. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 06:40, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Sure, it was just my first attempt at an SVG image, though. I'll try to make one later today that looks better. Titoxd(?!?) 15:10, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Ok, how does it look now? Titoxd(?!?) 17:20, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Static content, WP 0.5, et al

Hi Titoxd,

We're looking into various static content projects already underway over at the static content subcom, and would appreciate input. What would make your life easier in working on WP 1.0 and related projects? What sister projects have you encountered but not had time (or language skills) to coordinate with? &c. Please leave comments on the subcom's talk page.

All the best, +sj + 15:18, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

I've replied there, but Martin most likely will comment about things I may have not covered. Titoxd(?!?) 16:38, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Tropical cyclones WikiProject Newsletter #2

Number 2, July 2, 2006

The Hurricane Herald

This is the monthly newsletter of WikiProject Tropical Cyclones. The Hurricane Herald aims to give a summary, both of the activities of the WikiProject and global tropical cyclone activity. If you wish to change how you receive this newsletter, or no longer wish to receive it, please add your username to the appropriate section on the mailing list.

Storm of the month

Tropical Storm Alberto near peak intensity
Tropical Storm Alberto near peak intensity
Tropical Storm Alberto was the first tropical storm of the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season. Forming on June 10 over the western Caribbean Sea, the system moved northwestward as a disorganized tropical depression due to dry air and wind shear. It passed to the west of Cuba, bringing heavy rainfall to Cuba and Grand Cayman. The rainfall damaged 37 homes and destroyed 3 in Havana. It strengthened over the Gulf of Mexico and became a tropical storm on June 11. The center reformed to the northeast near its deep convection, and Alberto reached a peak intensity of 70 mph (110 km/h) before weakening and hitting the Florida Panhandle on June 13. Alberto brought heavy rainfall to the southeastern United States, peaking at 7.16 inches in Raleigh, North Carolina. The rainfall in Florida was beneficial in places as it alleviated drought conditions. The storm indirectly caused two deaths: A pilot who crashed near Tampa due to poor conditions and a boy who drowned in the flooding in Raleigh, North Carolina.

On 13 June User:Skyring followed User:Jtdirl, editing a large set of articles that had recently been edited by Jtdirl (see contributions for 13 June). While it is not possible to fully assess intent, this action, and some of the edit summaries used, seem designed to provoke: "enfeebled minds", "Some professional standards, please!", "A common pattern for this editor to produce poor English", "Low quality of Irish editor"

Bullies mainly use a combination of intimidation and humiliation to torment others. The following are some examples of bullying techniques:

  • Getting a victim into trouble with someone (usually an authority figure), or incurring disciplinary action against the victim, for an indiscretion either not committed by the victim or for one that is exaggerated by the bully.
  • Using blatant sarcasm to appear as friendly (to an outsider) while asserting control and status over the victim. (This often occurs directly after the bully has deemed the person as a "worthy victim")
  • Calling the victim names; accusing the victim of uselessness in all of his or her pursuits.
  • Interfering with the personal property of a person, school books or materials, clothes, etc damaging same, or making fun of an individual through them in any way. (in this case vandalism on this page of keep posting against my will]]
  • Social isolation of the victim. See also clique.

  • Demoting the victim without just cause.
  • Spreading negative rumours and gossip about the victim. In business, this may include false documentation. He achieves this by always supporting who ever might say something negative about me on talk pages.

Te equivocas:

In the matter of Cool Cat (talk • contribs) (aka User:Coolcat) — a case decided on October 5, 2005 — the ArbCom voted that wikistalking was unacceptable in the following circumstances:

  • It is not acceptable to stalk another editor who is editing in good faith. (Note that everyone is expected to assume good faith in the absence of definite evidence to the contrary.) *Once an editor has given reason to suspect bad faith, monitoring is appropriate, but constantly nit-picking is always a violation of required courtesy.
  • There are hundreds of administrators available to monitor problem users...Following an editor to another article to continue disruption (also known as wikistalking)'.
  • The term "wiki-stalking" has been coined to describe following a contributor around the wiki, editing the same articles as the target, with the intent of causing annoyance or distress to another contributor.

Alguna duda?

--T-man, the wise 03:03, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Si DA realmente quisiera paz me daria espacio.

Como puedes juzgarme tanto si no te metes a fondo al caso?--T-man, the wise 06:45, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

this is the wrong time to add something like this...

Could you please elaborate? When would be a right time? --  Netsnipe  CVU (Talk)  06:40, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Consensus and reversion

If my reversions of T-Man are justified how can I be banned for making them? The consensus is refer to is that of new pages for JLU episodes when the need to do so has not yet arisen... why wouldn't that extend to Batman animated episodes as well? Confused... -- Dyslexic agnostic 06:18, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

OK, I will try very hard to back away from him for a while. -- Dyslexic agnostic 06:22, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

User:Dyslexic agnostic appears unable to assume good faith with regards User:T-man, the Wise Scarecrow, and appears to have formed himself into a one man T-Man correction squad, note [51]. I'm also concerned by the comments expressed in this diff, [52], which indicate some level of keeping an eye on T-Man. User:T-man, the Wise Scarecrow seems incapable of keeping his temper with regards Dyslexic agnostic". -Steve Block ( Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Dyslexic Agnostic/Evidence ).

JLU eps

"Ok, this page some how, is different from all the other sharing the same format. I actually created the separeted articles because previous editors refused to expand it here, because they were also ignoring the list of lists of pisodes above. The guy that redirected the articles is a vandal who has chased, vandalized my page (erasing it all, moving it to T-man the stupid, etc.) and insulted me and you changed your mind because of his edits. Fine whatever, we will follow the now two-men-and-a-stalker-concensus. After all the unavoidable pages per episode will be sooner or later re-opened. And you will have contributed to nothing useful. What have you done anyways?--T-man, the wise 06:31, 2 July 2006 (UTC)"

Decirle silly a alguien no es buen motivo. Si te dicen "tontito" no significa mucho.

Is it just me, or is this kind of funny? I'm going against policy by editing and changing talk pages without registering, eh? Boy, I've sure gotten away with it for a long time... 69.145.123.171 Hello! Monday, July 3, 2006, 08:27 (UTC)

TC Disambigs and Categories

After a lot of research I finally managed to collate the List of named tropical cyclones (could you do the appropriate history merge?) and I'm now starting to go through the disambiguation pages. That's going to be heavy going so I don't want to do it more than once ideally. There's a couple things I'm not sure on though. First is the note on Category:Tropical cyclone disambiguation says "{{hurricane disambig}} is deprecated and should not be used". Should I change the disambigs to follow the suggested layout as I work through them? The second is a categorization question; with that research we have for the first time a decent listing of Southern Hemisphere TCs. This makes me think we should make many subcats to Category:Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone seasons for example Category:1979-80 Australian tropical cyclone season (or South Pacific or Southwest Indian). Certainly if the disambig pages are added to Category:Pre-1980 Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone seasons (which is consistent with Tropical Storm Katrina (disambiguation) being in Category:1999 Atlantic hurricane season) that category would be overloaded by the time I'm done. It would also enable a reorganization of the SH pages (as was suggested on 2005-06 Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone season) at some future date. Should I be bold and start doing that recategorization as I go?--Nilfanion (talk) 15:24, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

69.145.123.171

I noticed you are supporting 69.145.123.171 not registering. A couple of users and I have found some ways to get by the limited abilities of anons (such as not having a watchlist). Well, we also found a way to get him a monobook, but we need an admin to create the page User:69.145.123.171/monobook.css&js. So could you (with 69.145.123.171's permission) create the pages? Thanks, GeorgeMoney (talk) (Help Me Improve!) 17:08, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Here is what happened with JUL eps

Not spawn pages. Not secondary ones. Destroyer, Epilogue, Starcrossed: that's built up. Those I can see meriting their own page.

...Y despues de eso fue que me bloqueaste... un poco tarde, no?--T-man, the wise 20:33, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Can you please assist?

I'm sure you remember this guy's talk page from yesterday. After he was given all those warnings and blocked by you, he removed them all again. I said he should archive them if he doesn't want to see them anymore. So Irishguy added back the warnings. ER then responded to me by saying everything on his page is junk. I told him it would be put back regardless. He claimed that he is allowed to delete comments and that his block was for deleting things in unimportanat articles. He proceeded to respond to the question about his email before removing a warning again. So he removed the question he responded to and removed another warning. I told him once more that he shouldn't remove warnings. So he went into a rant about how he can delete whatever he wants, then said he could delete the warning he gave me about the 3RR and editing without registering. So what did he do? remove all the warnings on his page. He went on to fix up his rant and say he isn't vandalising. Irishguy restored it again, and ER promptly took them out again. Kungfuadam, aparently in RC, restored them. ER wrote himself a talk page policy while removing things again. I was upset he would consider my a vandal and thought because I removed his warnings he could remove all the others. So I ranted about it and have not yet recieved a response. I'm at a loss here. Since you were involved (and just so happen to be an admin) could you please help out? Thank you. 69.145.123.171 Hello! Monday, July 3, 2006, 22:38 (UTC)

By the way, sorry this is so long and confusing. That's just the way it happened. 69.145.123.171 Hello! Monday, July 3, 2006, 22:38 (UTC)

What was the initial infraction??? That is the only question that I have. I received two blocks for just trying to clean up the page--WHICH HAD NO WARNINGS ON IT until people started reverting my talk page. I am not interested in having an archive. As an admin, you can see how many times I have been blocked. According to policy, stuff can be deleted from the talk page. This is ER_MD responding from my work computer which is all of Kaiser Permante (if you want to block--it will block the entire network). I am amazed at how much interest 69.145.123.171 has in my talk page. Miffed? What is the objective? Why does he care so much and devote so much time? Is this a form of stalking? 162.119.232.101 00:29, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Check your talk page. I made a list of all the warnings you've recieved, and as I recall they numbered five or six. Actually, it's ten... And yes, they were warrented. --69.145.123.171 01:08, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

RfA Thank you

More harrasment

followed me and ranamed wikis knowing that's know how those are supposed to be named (Rowe and Khaoswors told him so long ago) Eso ni siquerea es "reparar" mis errores, solo te esta desobedeciendo y jodiendome. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by T-man, the Wise Scarecrow (talkcontribs) 04:08, 13 July 2006 (UTC).

T-Man Ban

I DEMAND his immediate ban. He just reverted my work in List of Batman: The Animated Series episodes in its entirety, with complete disregard for naming conventions, and a complete disregard of my edits for consistency of "Part One" and "Part I" (he of course being all over the map on this). DOES HE GET TO OWN THIS PAGE? If so, then Wikipedia is a pathetic excuse for a resourse. I HAVE HAD IT WITH THIS BOOR. He is a complete waste of everyone's time. Why do we put up with this??? And how long does he get to defame me with impunity on his talk page? I DEMAND that all mentions of my by him be deleted NOW!!!! -- Dyslexic agnostic 07:30, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Ahora si tienes suficiente para cortarle la cabeza.--T-man, the wise 07:41, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Look, I will stop reverting, and I retract my legal threats. PLEASE do something about the defamation against me. Dyslexic agnostic 07:42, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

That is one person's opinion on how Dr. Who episodes should be named. This is not a wikipedia policy. Go to List of Prison Break episodes for an excellent example. -- Dyslexic agnostic 08:10, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Me insulto, etc, etc. Links arriba. Ya cortale la cabeza, no?--T-man, the wise 08:45, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
